“Warning guests with Pets going to the Wyndham Hotel!!!”

Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront

Jun 27, 2008

My partner and I went to the Wyndham Hotel in June of 2008. We brought along our small Shih Tzu because we were told that they accepted pets.We booked directly with the hotel and not online, the hotel confirmed that we would had an oceanfront room with a King sized bed, non smoking with a 40 dollar pet fee for all three nights. We did not get a ocean front room. The room had two full sized beds and we were told upon check in that we would be charged 25 dollars EACH night for the pet. The room was marked non smoking but clearly had been smoked in by evidence of cigarette stains on the sink and table.

When we went into the room, the room was barely cleaned. I did not want walk on the carpet because the floor was very dirty with pet stains and sand. The room was also very small; it could barely fit the furniture. Part of the carpet was coming up next to the wall. The sink was cracked and the tub was completely clogged and the toilet kept running all night long. The mini fridge had a solid block of frost in the freezer section. The beach in front of the hotel, was not kept up as nicely as it is on the boardwalk. There were pieces of broken shells and glass all the way down to the water.

Overall, we did not rate this hotel as terrible, because we have stayed in worse. However, the reputation of the Wyndham Company needs to make sure that ALL of their hotels are kept up to order. Needless to say, we were very dissapointed and will not stay in this hotel again.

“Nothing Special”

Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront

May 18, 2008

My room was a old, tired beach hotel room. The halls are all sandy tile and my room was an open plan with no closer-just hanging rack and a large bar/food/sink/vanity area. Really nothing special.

“Don't stay in a pet friendly room”

Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront

May 15, 2008

I stayed in a pet friendly room at this property and it was disgusting. The room was poorly maintained. There were holes in the bathroom ceiling over the shower and in the wall near the sliding door. The bathroom and room were not cleaned well. There were stains on the blankets. The 'new' towels were dirty. I felt like most of the problems with the room were due to poor maintenance and had little to do with the fact that pets stayed there. I cannot believe they charged such a high pet fee when they obviously don't put it towards additional cleaning. I would NEVER stay at this hotel again.

“Front Desk Issues (but resolved)”

Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront

2 of 5 stars
Vienna, VA
May 14, 2008

I was here for a business conference. Here is my experience--I checked in and received the card key. I went up to the room and opened it only to discover a guest already there. I went down and explained and they gave a lame excuse that my last name was the same as that guest and they must have been confused checking me in. They gave me a new room. OK.....then the next day, I returned to my room at 6 pm after a full day of meetings to discover that the key did not work. I went back down and they reset my key. Upon entering my room, I found all of my things moved around, including my toiletry bag. The room was not made up at all. It looked like the room had been burglarized so I looked around to find all of my belongings and the adaptor for my laptop was missing (fortunately I had the laptop with me). I went downstairs and reported it, suggesting that I file a police report. The manager asked me to hold off until he checked internally with housekeeping etc. I waited and the next morning I met with the manager who told me that what happened as that housekeeping thought I was checked out so they moved my things out only to be redirected by their supervisor to move things back in. The hotel compensated me for the missing adaptor.

That was my experience. Other colleagues had similar problems with keys not working, being sent to room #s which did not exist, having misinformation from the front desk when asked to confirm if colleagues had already checked in and receiving bills under their doors belonging to other guests. Most of us never received even received a bill under our door the last day of our meetings so we all had to do in person check out.

So--major concerns about front desk and housekeeping. The room itself was pleasant with very comfortable beds and an unobstructed ocean view. The location is not in the center of the beach scene so unless you eat at the (mediocre) hotel restaurant, you will need a car. The manager was very gracious and did assist me fully in my request for compensation but for that turmoil, I would have expected to be comped for a future visit or an offer to credit me with additional reward points or something for the hassles I went through.

At a govt rate of under $110 a night, it was fine. If I were traveling for leisure, I would look elsewhere.

“Wonderful, RELAXING honeymoon!!”

Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront

Apr 29, 2008

My new husband and I stayed here 4/19/08-4/22/08 and we had a WONDERFUL time!! Our room was on the 17th floor (I highly recomend it). There was one complication before arrival, I called serveral times to confirm our ocean front king suite w/ no problem, but the final time I called I was told that we would have a lovely room over looking the very nice parking garage, but after speaking with the hotel manager he straightened everything out even giving us a nightly-weekday rate that would normally be charged for a non ocean front bottom floor room. So that was an added bonus. Overall the hotel is very nice, the staff were also very friendly. Our bed was like sleeping on a cloud, and since arriving home I immediatley ordered one just like it for us!!
My advice is where ever you stay confirm and RE-CONFIRM your room several times before arrival, mistakes happen and they can be fixed!!
