“Survivor of Thanksgiving weekend stay,”

Okay the summer had it's toll on this hotel this year. We stay here for mainly the location but my patience is wearing thin with the quality I am receiving versus what I am paying. If they are going to give you a 2 to 3 star hotel they should charge it as such. The room wasn't cleaned after the first night we stayed and we had extremely wet towels on the bathroom floor from taking showers earlier because the shower leaks all over the floor. We arrived back at the room exhausted and then had to go down to the front desk to get fresh towels for the morning showers. The front desk person said, "I am not surprised that your room wasn't cleaned, it's Thanksgiving." Okay then I said, "may I have the Thanksgiving rate." He didn't think that was funny. This hotel gets overwhelmed with functions that they cater to and the average family staying gets told that they are out of fresh sheets so they don't change the bedding either. One time I placed some toothpaste on one of the sheets last summer just to see if she would change the bedding and my daughter who was staying in the room when she came in heard the maid swear. I keep coming back here though because of the balcony and the view to the ocean. If you can bring your own linen and towels and lots of Lysol wipes, this hotel is okay. On the upside, the view is incredible. Oh and the restaurant that they have here is a hit or miss. Definitely eat breakfast here, it's great. The dinner however is awful, I was told that they just had a major function so the cooks that were on weren't their regular cooks. I know help is hard to find, I own a business, so I was trying to understand. If you have children, don't order the mac n cheese, it looked like lobster bisque when it came out with noodles at the bottom of the bowl.

“Great Stay”

My immediate family stayed at the Wyndham this past weekend. It was the best experience. I was a little skeptical upon reading other reviews but took my chances anyway and I wouldn't have changed a thing. Upon arriving the hotel staff was very friendly and accomadating. Not pushy at all. They informed us about an upgraded room and we didn't have to pay extra. The rooms were very neat and clean. The restaurant in the hotel is very nice. Great staff, good food, reasonable prices. We even went back for drink later that night. We were celebrating a birthday. The Best Tiramisu that I have ever tasted!!!! I would go back just for this alone. I feel like the hotel is in the perfect location. Not right in the middle of the hussle and bussle but right on the beach. It was 6 of us ages ranging from 20-50 and it was loved by all.

My boyfriend and I decided to go to Va Beach at the last minute, we wanted to stay at the Hilton or Board walk. That wasnt available, neither were any of the Marriotts. So we tried our luck at the Wyndaham.

The only good thing about the hotel was the Bed! The bed was nice and comfy. The Pool was one of the worst, because it was a little chilly outside, all of the kids were in the indoor pool. Okay, I love, love, love children. I'm a 23 year old teacher, but these kids were running around, spashing wayer at me, and throwing the balls at me. I decided to just get in the jacuzzi. Oh No! The kids were in the jacuzzi as well, unsuperviesed! Not to mention a huge stain on the wall next to the mirrior in our room. Bsides the hotel stay, Va Beach, itself was a very good experience.

“Sloppy.”

Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront

This hotel used to be called the Ramada Inn Oceanfront. They recently changed their name to Wyndham. This hotel is host to an annual training conference that I have been attending for years. Although many details of this hotel are great, the hotel seems to be slacking in so many ways. Its location is fantastic-- right on the beach, north of the main va beach drag (no crowds). parking is an ease with the parking deck available for an overflow of cars. a small pool and hot tub are available but on the opposite side of the building from the ocean so you can't see the ocean from the pool. I had a reservation and check-in was a breeze. fastest check-in I've ever experienced. I also really like the computer lab area they had available for guests to check emails and surf the net. The things I didn't like were: toothpick found in the bed between the "clean" sheets. carpet in rooms was old and turned my white socks black on the bottom as i walked in room. shower water pressure was fantastic but the drain in the tub was clogged with soap and paper soap wrapper from previous guest (Yuck!). carpet in hallways were nasty and dirty -- seemed sticky in some areas. on my floor, a yellow industrial floor fan was running the whole week blowing air onto the floor. i'm not sure why it was there--perhaps to distract you from the nasty hallway carpet. tv was difficult to control. sounds strange, i know, but when you turned it on and used either the remote or buttons on the tv, the tv was delayed to respond -- sort of like a slow computer connection acts like. Also, when you turn the tv on, it starts with a menu screen to advertise the porn channels that you can buy into. not a family friendly feature in a family friendly destination. if you have small children, becareful allowing them on the balcony. my friends one year-old child was able to fit her head through the slats and could've fallen off the balcony should she not have been observed and stopped from doing so. Futhermore, I ordered room service breakfast one day. the hotel leaves a breakfast order form on your bed that you can fill out and leave on the doorknob and breakfast will be delivered at the time you requested. first i had to obtain a new form from the front desk because the one left on our bed by the maid had already been filled out by a previous guest. secondly, the form allows you to indicate a specific time for the food to be delivered. they were late, so late that i didn't have time to eat the food before i had to be at the conference. i had to come back during the first break and eat a cold breakfast. don't order the grits, they were hard and lumpy and gross. they charge you $2.50 for a delivery fee and also add an automatic 20 percent gratuity tip in the bill. i had to argue with them that they didn't earn a 20 percent tip.
This hotel was nice in several ways. However, if they just pay attention to the details, it could be a great hotel. I didn't feel it was worth the advertised price of almost $350.00 per night. Fortunately for me, I was getting a discounted rate from the conference event. Thanks for listening to my opinion. I hope it helps you plan your next trip to VA Beach.

“Okay room, great service”

Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront

The other reviews are right, the rooms are grubby. That being said, it's a beach hotel at the end of the summer. So things are not going to look as good as they do in May. But the cleaning crew kept our room as clean as superhumanly possible. The bathroom was spotless. It looked like they just added a new shower curtain. There was NO mildew smell, and I'm a stickler for that. The sheets & towels were super clean and the crew was always willing to give us extra towels. Also, the staff at the hotel and the hotel restaurant were incredibly nice. I'd accidently booked a smoking room but they found us a non smoking room with no problem. Then I asked if we could stay an extra night at the same rate, and it was no problem. When we ate at the Surf Club restaurant and my husband complained that the fish was over cooked, they said no problem, took the plate away, and returned with a new serving. Great service even though we paid with a 20% off coupon. The beach was super clean and had 2 lifeguards on duty during the day. We liked being away from the Boardwark crowds. Oh and I even saw the maintenance crew checking the chemicals in the pool on a regular basis. For the rate we paid and the convenience of the location, we were more than satisfied.
