This hotel used to be called the Ramada Inn Oceanfront. They recently changed their name to Wyndham. This hotel is host to an annual training conference that I have been attending for years. Although many details of this hotel are great, the hotel seems to be slacking in so many ways. Its location is fantastic-- right on the beach, north of the main va beach drag (no crowds). parking is an ease with the parking deck available for an overflow of cars. a small pool and hot tub are available but on the opposite side of the building from the ocean so you can't see the ocean from the pool. I had a reservation and check-in was a breeze. fastest check-in I've ever experienced. I also really like the computer lab area they had available for guests to check emails and surf the net. The things I didn't like were: toothpick found in the bed between the "clean" sheets. carpet in rooms was old and turned my white socks black on the bottom as i walked in room. shower water pressure was fantastic but the drain in the tub was clogged with soap and paper soap wrapper from previous guest (Yuck!). carpet in hallways were nasty and dirty -- seemed sticky in some areas. on my floor, a yellow industrial floor fan was running the whole week blowing air onto the floor. i'm not sure why it was there--perhaps to distract you from the nasty hallway carpet. tv was difficult to control. sounds strange, i know, but when you turned it on and used either the remote or buttons on the tv, the tv was delayed to respond -- sort of like a slow computer connection acts like. Also, when you turn the tv on, it starts with a menu screen to advertise the porn channels that you can buy into. not a family friendly feature in a family friendly destination. if you have small children, becareful allowing them on the balcony. my friends one year-old child was able to fit her head through the slats and could've fallen off the balcony should she not have been observed and stopped from doing so. Futhermore, I ordered room service breakfast one day. the hotel leaves a breakfast order form on your bed that you can fill out and leave on the doorknob and breakfast will be delivered at the time you requested. first i had to obtain a new form from the front desk because the one left on our bed by the maid had already been filled out by a previous guest. secondly, the form allows you to indicate a specific time for the food to be delivered. they were late, so late that i didn't have time to eat the food before i had to be at the conference. i had to come back during the first break and eat a cold breakfast. don't order the grits, they were hard and lumpy and gross. they charge you $2.50 for a delivery fee and also add an automatic 20 percent gratuity tip in the bill. i had to argue with them that they didn't earn a 20 percent tip.
This hotel was nice in several ways. However, if they just pay attention to the details, it could be a great hotel. I didn't feel it was worth the advertised price of almost $350.00 per night. Fortunately for me, I was getting a discounted rate from the conference event. Thanks for listening to my opinion. I hope it helps you plan your next trip to VA Beach.
