We spent 2 days here, one of which was the day hurricane Ernesto hit at Virginia Beach. In addition to the terrible weather and not being able to enjoy being at the beach, there was a loss of power in the hotel, the rooms starting leaking and the maids were not able to come to work. BUT despite all of that, the hotel staff were always very courteous and accomodating; they called throughout the day to let us know what was happening...that someone would be by later in the day to provide us with fresh towels and they brought in a professional company to vacuum out the soppy carpet. In addition, when we checked out, I asked if they would consider a discount for our stay and the manager came out and did provide us with one.
The rooms were very clean and spaceous, the location and oceanview was excellent. The restaurant there was also good. The parking garage is situated where you can park on the same floor as your room. So for us, not being able to go outside due to the weather, we still were able to go get a meal and shop in the gift shop without going outside. I would definitely go here again.

This is the third time we have stayed in VA Beach but the first at HoJo's.
Pros: Terrific location-one block from the Dairy Queen right on the boardwalk, a couple of blocks from a kiddie amusement park, a five minute walk to the pier. The room was very large which was great to be able to store all of our beach stuff. As each room had a balcony , we were able to enjoy the fireworks that are displayed each Sunday and Wednesday night right from our room! The ground floor also has a gift shop/bike rental/convenient store which was great for a family as we bought milk there for our breakfasts in our room, rented our bikes there (they offer coupons) and bought very inexpensive trinkets for the kids. Although the pool is small, to 9 and 7 year old kids it was the greatest! The hotel staff were very pleasant and offered us an early check-in. Also, they have a garage that you can park your car on the level of your room, simplifying carrying your things back and forth to your car. We also found the hotel to be very clean.
Cons: The main level and hallways of the hotel and some of the features in the room were very old and dated. There was hardly any decor or ambiance but that is not what we are looking for when going to the beach!!

After reading a few negative reviews.. we were hesitant. HOWEVER... HOJO's VA Beach... was great. overall hotel was very clean.. the staff worked very hard in keeping up with all the sand brought in (much by us) from the beach.. the common restroom on the 1st floor was very clean and great access from the beach. each room offers a view of the beach... you don't even get that at the 5 star hotels. It meets all your basic needs. We will gladly return. thanks for a great stay.

Where Do I start. Worst place I have ever stayed and I travel about 2 weeks every month.

They Quoted us one rate then tried to charge us a highet rate when we checked in. They fixed it then tried when we checked out they attempeted to Charge us a higher rate again.

Bathroom - Yuck, Toilet would not flush twice, they fixed it twice, Bathtub only had a shower (strange). Mold between tiles, No water pressure

Towles paper thin

elevators take forever

Room condition - Dirty, Mold, Funk on carpet

TV remote did not work

Pool is a mess and dirty

Air Conditioner - Room temperature never went below 80deg F
called twice they said they never had anyone say it was too hot before. Finaly fixed after 2 days

All this for $180/night + tax you would be better off in a tent or sleeping in your car !
