We stayed there for four nights in early June with our boys, ages 5 & 3. We really enjoyed it and plan on staying there again next year.
What we liked:
- the lazy river was a blast, the kids really liked it, but it was a bit colder than I would have preferred
- the indoor pool was great, very warm, but one of the two hot-tubs was out of order
- the outdoor pool was nice, it's close to the beach, not to the street, which is a plus compared to the Courtyard up the street
- great proximity to the beach, and a shower & foot wash station near the entrance to the pool
- the staff was simply outstanding. We stopped several times in the kids club to see the Tonka the Turtle (but our kids didn't stay in the club) and the staff we extremely nice. The pool bartender was extremely friendly as well.
- staff was everywhere cleaning, it seemed at some times that there were as many staff as there were guests, they all appeared to be working very hard
- the beach side restaurant was great for breakfast, kids ate free which was a big plus, but the buffet could have used pancakes and more fruit (and the eggs were completely overcooked every morning). Ordering off the menu was variable, slow one day, quick the next. Staff was great here as welll.
- the room was clean, the fridge worked fine (though froze everything the first night until we turned it down), beds were comfortable, good choice of TV channels, great view of the ocean & pool.
We had a few minor nits, nothing that really disrupted our stay, but just a few minor things that kept the trip from being perfect:
- the elevators are SLOW!!!!!!
- no bedrails were available, we had to bring our own
- the door to our room did not lock on its own, instead if you let it close you could simply push it back open. We realized this and pulled it closed when we left, but the cleaning staff didn't realize it wasn't locking so when we came back from the beach the door could be pushed open. We called the front desk and within 5 minutes a maintenance worker came to our room and fixed it
- the bathroom really needs remodeling, there were mold stains in the caulk around the tub, and the shower curtain was hard to position, and hard to keep closed
- the Italian restuarant on the top floor doesn't seem to cater to families. Adult men can't wear shorts for example. For a family hotel this was odd. I can understand no beachwear, but given that the hotel is very much family oriented, I don't understand why the restaurant is so formal.
- parking was hard to come by in the garage across the street on Saturday night. There is overflow parking at another garage, but we saw numerous cars without parking tags that should have been removed.
Really all these complaints are minor, as I noted earlier, we fully plan to stay here again on our next visit to the Beach. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
