“Place was a JOKE”

The Diplomat Inn Oceanfront

Jul 21, 2008

July 18-20, 2008

I stayed just recently at The Diplomat Inn Oceanfront at Virginia Beach Virginia. We just went down for the weekend. We arrived, one room was ready-the other was not. That was fine, our rooms were ajoining so we all unloaded into the one room.
We went to the beach was gone maybe 2 hours returned other room was ready we sat down got unpacked. I first checked the bed one was clean and the other had been made, and was full of sand. called down they came removed sheets put clean ones on (the lady said the bed that was dirty was made up so she did not check it nor did she change the sheets, what person is going to sleep in a bed and then make it up back the exact way it should be before they leave?)
So I let that go then we went to get showers before going out for dinner- I had a glob of hair in my shower at the drain!!!! Was not cleaned at all there was no way! I called again, the lady said that girl had complaints already and she would have someone come up to clean the tub. In my parents room which was the kitchen one- the counter was not wiped nor was the microwave or the toaster, and the coffee pot was not washed out, there was a glob of cheese pizza on the carpet. Also beware you stay in room number 21 the people on the other side (in room #22) can unlock the ajoining room with out you even knowing it!
They are not doing upgrades due to the hotel next to them buying them out, which is not good service at all! They are just trying to get the last couple dollars in this year and that's all they care about. I was not offered any type of free stay, discount or anything due to what I had to deal with.
I am glad the girl worked that day because they paid her to do nothing. She was still there the following day. I believe if someone has this many complaints you think wouldn't have a job. No other hotel would have treated customers like this.
So my advice SPEND THAT EXTRA MONEY STAY SOMEWHERE NICER. email me any questions-mayjustus4@wmconnect.com (say about hotel)

“Great Budget Motel with 3 star service”

The Diplomat Inn Oceanfront

Jun 13, 2008

This Hotel was very accomadating to me i booked a 3 day/ 2 night stay here. When I arrived the Hotel staff was very nice and friendly to me. I got a 4th floor room, the room was cleaned and furnsihed with fresh towels, the bathroom did'nt have any soap or shampoo but thats okay i always pack my own. so i got situated in my room and took a nap the beds were very comfortable. The balcony was private and had good view of the ocean. I decided to just go ask for some soap and shampoo even though i had it so when i went to the desk they said they didn't provide soap or shampoo and they apoligized for any inconvienence the front desk clerk was helpful by telling me of places across the street that sold tioletries. Overall a Good Place to stay but on the last day of my stay the room got hot but the manager said that the top floor is always hot due to the sun on the roof he offered me a 20% off discount so i took it. This is a very good place to stay trust me!

As some reviewers have noted, this hotel will be torn down after the 2007 season to make way for new timeshares. We were a little unsure of what to expect as the reviews were so mixed, however the low price and features for a beach front room were what sold us on it. That, plus the fact that for just about every hotel there is a mixture of good and bad reviews, and this looked no worse than many and better than some.

We were pleasantly surprised, and enjoyed our stay immensely. Yes, it is getting old. Yes, the elevator is slightly larger than a tuna can, but there are only about 35 rooms so it was seldom a wait...when it was, four flights of stairs were okay as an alternate. Yes, the amenities are rather lacking. But on the whole, it was clean, the staff was courteous, the kids loved the easy access to the beach (go around the pool and through the bushes to avoid the smelly trash cans in the small alley), and we really had no complaint for saving a couple of hundred dollars over similar places in our 5 day stay. The micro efficiency has a 3/4 size refrigerator, microwave, sink and reasonable cabinet space, so we were able to save on meals out. Bring your own paper plates and plastic ware, as well as coffee and filters.

We had an end room and felt comfortable occasionally propping the door open slightly and got a very lovely cross breeze from the windows in the corridor so could turn off the noisy A/C for a while.
Overall we were very happy and given the chance, would stay there again. We found it not nearly so bad as some reviewers had noted. Enjoy it while it lasts!

It was understandable to pay $91+ for this hotel room this time of year due to a large soccer tournament. However, for this price I would have expected: 1) alarm clock or any type of time device 2) working heat 3)small bottle of condiment shampoo 4)mattress and blankets have been changed out within the last 15 years 4)coffee maker that was advertised as an aminity in the room 5) remote control for tv. In my opinion this hotel needs complete renovation. Oh, by the way it is not wheelchair accessible unless you are able to push up a 90 degree incline when you get through the front door!!!
