We stayed the first week of June and our room was a little outdated but it was clean and a nice size. Location was wonderful. Bring your own sand chairs, thought the service in front of the hotel was too pricey. We would stay there again.

We just checked out of Ramada Limited after 30 minutes (it was terrible- see review). Sandcastle had an oceanfront room for less than $90 per night, between June 11-13th. It was well worth it. The hotel is clean, staff is friendly, free continental breakfast, and it is right on the beach! Also a convenient store downstairs that rents bikes. We wanted to stay an extra night, and they only had vacancy in another room, which would have been an inconvenience. But we ended up leaving on time because the weather wasn't cooperating. Overall it was a nice stay. We weren't impressed with Virginia Beach so we probably wont be back anytime soon- but if we do go back we would definitely stay here again.
Started staying at this hotel last year. My boyfriend and I dont get that much time off and we hate paying high prices for hotels that we are just staying a weekend at. (Plus, when you're on vacation, how much time are you really going to spend in your room?) We have been going down to the beach for years, and the location is great! We enjoy going down to Rudee Inlet, The Raven on 12th Street, and concerts that are along the boardwalk all the way up to 23rd or 24th Street. So, if you are planning on doing a lot of walking around, this 16th Street hotel is great for being smack dab in the middle of it all! No, this hotel isn't the best I have ever stayed in, but you aren't paying to stay in the Hilton, people. I never have high expectations for hotels when I first stay in them, but wasn't disappointed the first time and have been back several times since! Plus, you get a 10% discount card when you stay there. We have booked our stay for the American Music Festival during Labor Day (a king sized bed, oceanfront room w/ private balcony) and with our 10% off, we are paying 225 a night with taxes! If you look at any other hotel, they are WAY higher than that for the time we are staying there--- even if you go through hotwire.com, hotels.com, or travelocity.com! Give it a try!!
We head to Virginia Beach every year for the Sand Soccer Tournament. We have stayed in a variety of hotels at the oceanfront. The Sandcastle boasts of deluxe oceanfront rooms. Our room was hardly deluxe. This was the worst hotel room we have stayed in so far. First off, our keys would not work. We had to track someone down to get into our room, and then we had to get them re-keyed. The room was dirty and smelly. The carpet was saturated from the air conditioner. The a/c was on the wall next to the bathroom which was at the entrance to the room. Every time we entered the room or exited, or used the bathroom, we had to walk on the wet carpet. I'm sure that is also why the room smelled. The restaurant at the hotel is Greek, which is fine if you like that kind of food. Parking would be great if you could find a spot and if it was monitored better. We were unable to find a place to park on Saturday night. Most of the cars we saw did not have a hotel tag on them. There is a continental breakfast included which was nice and there is a nice outdoor eating area off the breakfast room. Coffee is provided 24 hours, but only in the lobby, not in the rooms. Overall this was not a pleasant experience. I expected the newly renovated rooms they advertised, but instead found an old, dirty, smelly room.
My wife and I have stayed at the Sandcastles three times in the past year. The desk staff were the best I've met in our world travels. The view was great and and the beds were second only to Residence Inns for comfort. People stop moannig this is a great place to stay for the price.
