After reading many reviews of this hotel, we were very reluctant to book the trip. But, we couldn't have been more pleased.
The hotel was full of families with small children, just like us.
We received a top floor room with a terrific view. The room was huge. The kitchen came equipped with absolutely everything you need to cook a meal, just bring dishsoap.
There was a fruitfly problem the first couple of hours there, but after speaking with housekeeping, it was taken care of & was not a problem anymore.
The staff was very friendly the whole time we were there.
Overall, the best stay we have had a Virginia Beach in about 4 years.
We will definately be back!!!

Unknown to us at the time of our booking, all rooms at this hotel are smoking rooms, so don't bother requesting non-smoking. We have a 1 year old, who does not yet walk. I was horrified when I saw that his hands and knees to feet were covered with black soot after crawling around on the carpet during the first 30 min we were there! We got not apology for this when we complained to the front desk, we did receive 1 blanket that we requested to put down on the floor from the maitenance guy. When we requested that the floors be cleaned, we were told they could only vaccum them, because they use "chemicals" to shampoo the carpets and could not do this until the room was vacant. My opinion is that the carpets are rarely shampooed. After requesting a second blanket to put on the floor, our son was able to spend time playing in a limited space on the floor. We will not be returning guests to this hotel!

After reading many reviews I chose the Schooner based on price, location, room accommodations and reviews. We stayed in the ground floor suite. One word of advice, not all suites are the same size. Room 123 was the smallest and the nastiest of the suites in that group. The bathroom was the worst. A Hanging bathroom ceiling fan that didn’t work, mold on the wall, showerhead that sprayed the wall therefore peeling the paint off. House keeping doesn't clean the floors daily. I walked on sandy floors the entire week. There was also the previous guests hair on the tub, vanity, and stove top (Nasty!) The pool area is small with limited lounge chairs. The fridge is college dorm room size with a broken freezer area door and broken bars on the door making the storage space useless. Some of this I expected from the past reviews but not all of it!

What I didn't expect was the type of guests a lower end hotel attracts. These guests are rude with FOUL mouths and no respect for others.


With the combination of all above, my first and last stay was 6/2008.

This was our place for the past ten years..they have gone down, not as great of service as we have experienced in the past. This time we found ticks in our beds!! we were horrified, the staff was slow to help, we finally asked for our money back..ended up going to a different hotel. Very disappointed. this was our home away from home, not sure if we will ever return
