We chose this based on the sheer ambiance from the boardwalk as we walked past during this past weekend art show on the boardwalk in VA Beach. The people waiting appeared to be of taste and there was definitely a wait list. We got seated fairly promptly and loved the decor...very upscale and modern in design. The menu was appealing and then things turned. The music was more akin to a disco or nightclub...simply way too loud for any time of day to eat and not dance. Food was fine, fresh, promptly delivered but without much flavor. I had the fried flounder sandwich which had some sort of sauce but there was so little I could not taste it at all so simply enjoyed the natural flavor of the fish which was just fine. I ordered an unusual julep with basil and lemon and got instead, with no explanation, a regular julep with mint and lime. I asked the waitress what happened and she showed me the bill where she keyed it correctly but the bartender apparently decided to make what he/she felt like and served it anyway. NOT good enough since it is my money being spent. VA Beach has little enough ambiance to begin with. The waitress nor the manager who came over offered anything other than a lame apology. We paid and left. That was Saturday June 14th, 2008.
Sunday we did not feel like venturing out in the car and trolling like natives to get to other restaurants we had read about so we walked the 5 blocks to try it again for dinner. Big mistake. The music is even louder, there are smokers at the bar (I am sorry even having been a smoker but cigarettes and food just do not mix) there is loud sports contrasting from the tv's with the live outdoor pavilion concert AND the extrememely loud music in the restaurant. Already a bad set up.
We sat (twenty minute wait was not bad considering this was Fathers Day) ordered a mahi-mahi and I ordered the seafood platter with tilapia, scallops. shrimp, and "large crab cake" My friends mahi mahi was so dry he was choking. My tilapia the same and the "large crab cake" was not so large and had that scary consistency that said "you should not eat this as it is old and soft and will make you sick" kind of feeling to it all. I managed the shrimp and scallops but the vegetable on both our plates was ridiculous. Some of the vegetable were over cooked and the rest undercooked. The waitress was very decent as she recognized we were NOT happy and I told her why while my dining partner went to the restroom and asked me not to make a scene. The waitress promply removed both the entrees from the bill so we paid only for the salad. We had not ordered drinks here as we had them previous to arriving. Naturally we did tip her as if we had the entire bill. She acted appropriately in my opinion as compared to the lunch waitress.
I will not go back as I felt the food and ambiance did not go anywhere near the design of this restaurant.
