“Nice stay, but not again”

We stayed in a room in Tazewell Hall, which is the modern building. I selected it because I could choose to have a balcony, however, we didn't use it at all. The balcony was very tiny, and faced another building, no real garden view, just a patch of grass and other windows. The room was a good size, bed comfortable, but there were a few extra layers of blankets under the bottom sheet, perhaps due to other reviews saying the beds were hard? Anyway, it was basically a lovely room, though the toilet was alarmingly slow, the bathroom was quite adequate but small. Even though we were not in the main hotel which houses the restaurant and lounge, the buildings are connected by a covered walkway, and the grounds are lovely. The swimming pools and gym are just across the street and there is an indoor lap pool which is adults only from 6am to 3pm, which is great for those who actually use it to exercise. The down side was that the restaurant was not that great, and overpriced for the menu. I did not care at all for the Seared Beef Seviche appetizer, and they did take it off my bill. I then had a salmon dish for my main course. Tthe salmon was good, but it was floating on a soupy mix of something I couldn't quite identify. Not actually bad, but not really good. Frankly, I expected better, so we had the rest of our dinners at local restaurants. Breakfast buffet was average. Location is excellent, just 1/2 block from the Colonial streets and activities.

“Will Never Go Back”

Williamsburg Lodge

Jul 14, 2008

We were so looking forward to staying at the Lodge (we had stayed several times in the past but not since their renovations).
Obviously the room we were assigned in the Tazewell Building was not renovated!!!!
Room was dark and dingy. Which was probably for the best that way I could not see how unclean it was. Previous vacationers toothpaste spatter still on the mirror and bathroom sink not clean!!!!
Bed extremely uncomfortable and pillows were a disgrace. They had to have been 10 years old. I can not honestly believe Colonial Williamsburg Foundation would allow those pillows to be on their beds.
Take your own hair dryer, one is not provided.
Front desk uncaring and unhelpful
Left after one night.
Stayed else were for less than half the price. Bright clean room and comfortable bed.
I have never written on of these review before but I have never been as disgusted with a "nice" hotel.

We returned to the Lodge because we enjoyed our trip last year. We felt July would be cooler than August . The room was very nice. Rarely saw or heard other guests, so it was peaceful. Bed was fine and bathroom was ok. Sure it was small, but I prefer to be alone there anyway. Spa toiletries were very nice and I loved the oatmeal soap. Friday's seafood buffet was wonderful...not just seafood either. Desserts were unbelievable. Breakfast was good too. The granola is addicting. The fruits were unbelievably fresh. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We will return.

“It Depends on What is Important to You”

We found ourselves searching for a place to stay overnight in Colonial Williamsburg after visiting the Welcome center and realizing that almost all of the major programming takes place in the morning/early afternoon. Because our noon arrival prohibited our ability to fully enjoy what Colonial Williamsburg has to offer, we decided to use the visitors center hotel booking agent to assist us. Because the Williamsburg Lodge is part of the properties included in the “Colonial Williamsburg Resort Collection”, the agent was able to compare to the other on-site properties for amenities and price. We thought that for the price and location, the lodge would be the best choice. Other property choices ranged up to $249USD+.
The Williamsburg Lodge is right on the fringe of the area where all of the activity takes place. All of the restaurants, stores, and major roads are adjacent to the hotel grounds. The actual colonially-based portion of the area is only a few blocks walking distance, or if you prefer, the shuttle picks up right in front of the property. There are other properties that are just as close, but cost more.
This property offers numerous onsite amenities. We used the lounge for cocktails, the free underground parking, and the onsite restaurant. We also received a discount on different attractions for staying at one of the “collection” properties.
For $119 for a Tuesday night stay, my husband and I felt that the accommodations were adequate but definitely no frills. To the credit of the Lodge, the room looked just the like the picture in the vacation planner that Colonial Williamsburg publishes. The staff were professional and courteous. The room we used was very clean and had a queen bed, two chairs, desk, TV in cabinet, and a very small bathroom. The bed was uncomfortable. The mattress was very hard, cheap single box spring. The bedding puzzled me a bit because there was no mattress pad or fitted sheet. There was a flat sheet that they tucked under, and that kept coming untucked at night, leaving me tossing and turning on the bare mattress. There was also no cold water from the bathroom tap, only lukewarm at best. The room had a digital thermostat so the room temperature was easily regulated and comfortable. I had breakfast in the onsite restaurant. The breakfast buffet was excellent!! Cost about $15 for an adult. The large variety of food was fresh and tasty. The service was pleasant. I also found myself perplexed by the overall comfort of the room/bed when the rest of the hotel was stately and elegant. From looking at the grounds, amenities, lobby, lounge, and staff – I almost expected more. The hotel presents as a four star facility, but room was definitely two star.
Overall, if the comfort and elegance of the room is of importance, this is definitely not the way to go. But if you'd like something very conveniently located with some free amenities, this may be your place.

We stayed at the Lodge for 4 nights and have no complaints! It is convenient to everything and the place is immaculate. We ate in the lounge a few times and service and food were great. They just started with a Tapas menu and it was a pleasant change from the usual. One evening I ordered no salt on anything and my saltless fritata was fabulous. We also ate in the dining room and our waitress went out if her way to make the evening a pleasant one. We would definitely stay here again.
