“Wonderful time in Colonial Williamsburg!”

We recently stayed in Colonial Williamsburg for our Thankgsgiving vacation, 11/19 - 11/24/05. Upon our arrival in the late afternoon, we ate at Chowning's Tavern and met a couple staying in one of the colonial houses. We decided to see if we could change our existing reservations at the Embassy Suites to the Colonial resort. We were assisted by Lesley at the Williamsburg Lodge and she was able to set us up in a double queen room for the following three nights ($47 less per night). She also called the Embassy Suites to cancel our existing reservations. We checked in the following morning and were pleasantly surprised with the room size. (We were expecting a much smaller room.) We had an inside courtyard room in Tazewell Hall. The room was extremely clean, colorful, included two sinks and a nice balcony with rocking chairs. The only drawback to this hotel is the lack of a central lobby. The buildings seem to be set up like dorm halls. The only nearby restaurant/lounge is across the street at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club. The other drawback is the elevator (or lack of during busy times). Other than that, no complaints! The bell staff (J.R. in particular) were wonderful and accommodating. J.R. provided us with transportation to and from dinner -- a great service especially when cold and rainy! We enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at The King's Arms Tavern. We cannot say enough about the professionalism and courtesy by all employees at Colonial Williamsburg. We travel a lot, but rarely come across this many dedicated employees. This vacation was made wonderful by all the great people we met.

We stayed at the Williamsburg Lodge from August 6th through the 14th with our 15 and 12 year old and were very happy. We booked the Revolution package through Colonial Williamsburg and got a rate substantially less than was quoted on the Busch site for the same type of package (two week tix good for unlimited visits, parking, etc. to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, Busch Gardens and Water Country). We had a brand new room in the Curtis Wing and while we missed having a restaurant, etc. in our own hotel, we felt like the location of the Lodge, newness of the room, etc. made up for it. Most of our days were split between Colonial Williamsburg which we loved walking out our door to, and the amusement parks. The construction was a complete nonissue for us and didn't bother us at all -- it all took place behind plywood walls away from us. We did go into the Tazwell Wing to get coffee, etc. in the morning and the hallways and rooms there did not seem as nice as the new ones -- no surprise given that ours was just a few weeks old. Overall we loved everything and are planning a trip back -- and we would definitely stay at the Lodge again!

“Don't worry about the construction - this hotel is Great!”

With a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, July 28, 2005 planned I considered my options for hotels. The "on-site" Colonial Williamsburg hotels (WB Inn, WB Lodge, etc.) offer a $29 length of stay ticket (for the arrival day thru your depature date) and FREE kids tickets. On a side note, one of the CW phone staff was quite helpful in letting me know that this special rate was better than booking a complete package with other WB attractions.

I was a bit hestitant to book the only moderate on-site hotel available, Williamsburg Lodge, after being warned by the Colonial Williamsburg phone staff of the construction. They assured me that the construction would not interfere with my stay, but who hasn't heard that line before.

I decided to book our room in the brand new East Wing of the Lodge figuring it would be better than the Tazwell Wing that had been "renovated." Not knowing what the renovated rooms look like, I can tell you the East Wing rooms are lovely. Our room contained two queen poster beds, a small dresser, desk, leather covered wing back chair, wooden rocker, small game table, and amoire which had small safe, refriderator, and TV. Sound like a lot for one room...? Maybe just a bit, but it was decorated lovely and totally in the historic theme.

The bathroom was equally as nice, large with more ammenities than you'd find at other hotels in this price range including plush white robes, a large towel hamper, full sized in-room coffee maker (no mini four cup maker!) and more.

The room also has a door that goes to a small patio outside with another set of wooden rockers and small table into a pretty landscaped area.

The construction was obvious, but unless you plan to hang out directly outside your room during the day when they are working it will not interrupt your stay in the least.

The only other inconvienances were that the front desk is actually across the street in another building and the continental breakfast provided is located in the Tazwell wing. The front desk issue only came in to play when we couldn't find our way to room (though we were so close to it, it would've bit us). We had checked in earlier in the day and given very good directions, that I had forgotten, to the room. We called the front desk for directions and they had a bit of a time understanding where we were and where our room was. Had we been in the same building I am sure they would've sent someone right over to help us. The continental breakfast is located in the Tazwell wing and meant a bit of a hike over there from the East Wing. There is no seating for breakfast as it is grab-and-go so if you forget something it would be another hike back. It was well stocked though with better than some continental fare including individually cello-wrapped pastries, several types of juices and Dole fruit bowls among other things.

We didn't use the outdoor pool area, which was also across the street which I believe is part of the WB Inn.

There was ample underground parking and the hotel is just a short block to the just about the middle of the CW area, though there is a bus shuttle stop just outside the hotel.

Take advantage of the low construction rates on this hotel, I'm sure they will go up once the construction is complete.

“Excellent stay at the lodge”

My husband and I spent a Saturday night in the Tazewell Building of the lodge. The room has been renovated with up to date carpeting, bedding, wallpaper, window treatments and bathroom fixtures. Everything was in perfect condition. After checking in at the temporary reception desk, the receptionist radioed the bell hop in the underground parking garage, who greeted us by name, carried our luggage and generally gave us an orientation to the building and nearby facilities. Our room was very quiet and the bed comfortable. There is currently no restaurant but they have provided a "Grab and Go" breakfast bar with coffee, tea, breads and cereals. It was very convenient to walk to the historic area. Our daughter and her fiance arrived about 9 PM to pick up her wedding dress for the next day's event and she was allowed to park in the underground lot and was given directions for choosing the proper elevator. All in all we had a great experience and would highly recommend the Lodge.

“Won't stay again”

My family went to Williamsburg for the first time. We liked the idea of staying within walking distance to the historical sites. And we do not have money to stay at Williamsburg Inn. For $149, we thought it should be a decent hotel to stay. When I booked the hotel, I was told the room would be very quiet. Boy, when I got there, the front desk gave me a room that is just above a busy street and next to the stairs.

I did not realized how bad it was until we went back after our dinner. We heard of loud traffic noise. I complained to the front desk, I was told it would stop after 9:00 P.M.. Boy, it was wrong. We did not wish to move at late consider my kids were tired.

The next morning, I called to say I would like to move to another room. I was told no more room available, but I can pay more to move to Williamsburg Inn. Then, I talked with the manager. She was polite but said the same - you can move if you prefer to pay more. But my husband did not wish to drive home.

Sum it all - it is way too much money for that motel (you can't call it hotel). It is worst than motel. Buyers beware, do not stay there. The only good about this MOTEL is - it is close to historical sites. But I prefer to drive next time.
