“Breakfast? Skip this Place”

Stopped in on a Saturday morning for breakfast. First, very limited breakfast menu: Eggs, breakfast meats, grits, biscuits & gravy, and pancakes. If you are not a breakfast person (my husband is not), you're limited to a garden salad. Second, the place cannot cook eggs! I asked for mine over medium; I got over easy. We watched as a customer at another table sent her eggs back to the kitchen b/c they were over easy. Third, when we mentioned the problem with the eggs to a woman who appeared to be an owner/manager, she immediately blamed the waitress for the order, saying she should have made sure the cook got the right order (or assumed that the waitress picked up the wrong order)! We actually suggested that the cook might need help with his egg cooking b/c of the problem at the other table. She later corrected the waitress in the middle of three tables (nicely, but the point is she stopped to correct the waitress in public). Our waitress was working hard on a busy morning and, in spite of returned dishes and management's poor attitude, our waitress managed to remain charming and efficient. Watching the way management handled this situation left a bad taste in our mouths and we could not get out of there fast enough. We will not be returning: Bacon and eggs are a dime a dozen in this town, and Chickahominy House has done nothing to distinguish itself.

“Best lunch in Williamsburg”

Old Chickahominy House

Limited menu but the itmes are the best in town. The brunswick stew is great and so are the ham biscuits. Home made pies like your "granny" made. If your into antique shopping, you can do this while you wait to be seated.

“Not-to-miss Place”

As a native Virginian, it embarrasses me to admit that I had never visited the Old Chickahominy House in Williamsburg until this past week. The food was out of this world good - and ORIGINAL, not pre-prepared and run-of-the-mill like you find in chain restaurants. This is the real deal. The flat, rectangular biscuits are REAL biscuits - not made from a mix and not from frozen. The country ham - WOW. There are many types of Brunswick Stew and I'm used to a slightly different style than the Old Chickahominy House serves (because my family has made it for about 100 years!) but what they served was wonderful. The tea was perfect - sweet, but not syrup. The pie was delightful. The menu is somewhat limited, but if you want a huge selection, go to a chain restaurant. The next time I'm in Williamsburg - this is where we're headed for either breakfast or lunch.

Don't believe the negative comments - but be prepared for REAL food.

We had breakfast at the Old Chickahominy House while in Williamsburg for vacation. It was great southern food! The biscuits were wonderful as were the grits. My husband had the pancakes and liked them too.

I will eat here again if I ever make it back to Williamsburg. My mouth starts watering just thinking of the great breakfast we had at this place.

“Great breakfasts... good prices..”

Having just moved to Williamsburg, & with some friends in town, we decided to test the reputation of the Old Chickahominy's blueberry pancakes. Excellent! The pancakes were terrific (thick, fluffy, & wrapped around yummy blueberry filling) the biscuits are another must have. Physically resembling pop-tarts the flat rectangular biscuits are butter and flaky. The prices were very good (2 eggs & 2 biscuits just $3.25... in Summer 08). They have a large gift shop (3 stories) with antiques, lovely holiday ornaments, and decor). Breakfast at the Old Chickahominy may just become our weekend tradition.
