My wife and I are from Virginia Beach and recently visited Williamsburg. We met there ten years ago and decided to return to try some of the new resturants that were not there when we last visited. After passing by a few appealing choices we decided on The Black Angus Grille. When we walked in we were surprised at the elegant and fresh look of the dining room. We were pleasantly greeted by a cheerful gentleman who seated us in a cozy and confortable table as my wife requested.
Our server shortly after greeted us with a cheerful smile, welcomed us, and asked if we "would like to start with a beverage of any kind". Not the traditional wine drinker i knew I wanted a white wine even though I planed to have a beef entree. I asked for a recommendation for a sweet white, and he recommended the "Johannisburg" Riesling. To my delight it was the perfect choice. There were no dinner specials but our server rambled off about five or six of his favorites. All sounded appealing so we decided on his favorites of BBQ Shrimp which my wife and I split, the nine oz Certified Angus Filet Mignon for me, and the Crab Stuffed Shrimp for my wife.
After about five minuets into our dinner service I had DeJa-vu moment and insisted to my wife that we had dined here before., but my wife assured me that we had not. I was positive that we had so I asked our server a little about the history of the Black Angus Grille, and was surprise that it was previously called The Prime Rib House. With a confident grin I told my wife, "I told you so". We had indeed dined there before. Not a disappointment but we found out that the only major changes were basically a relocation of the Bar and Now they carry all Certified Angus Beef so our expectations were now even higher than before.
We were optimistic and welcomed the change. The knowledge of our server and the confidents of how he described his favorites just gave us a level of comfort that we decided that even if the food wasn't to our satisfaction, we would definitely return for the great service that we experienced. We then started with the BBQ shrimp, wonderful choice and the flavor was beyond our expecations, "Outstanding". The salads we could tell were freshly prepared, and by the time our entrees arrived we were ready to indulge in what we were really craving. I ordered my nine oz filet nignon med rare and was surprised that it was cooked exactly how I wanted and to the description of our server, a seventy five percent pink center, as is also described on the menu. The Flavor of the steak was a delight, and so was the side of recommended marsala demi-glace sauce. I asked my wife how hers was and her answer was "pretty good". but the expression on her face sait outstanding. I decided to try for myself and was surprised to fine the seafood just as good as the steak. We finished off with Tira Misu, which our server informed us wasn't home made, but none the less found it to be a perfect ending to a wonderful dining experience. With a fairly priced menu, I think we will not wait as long to return.
The Black Angus Grille In Williamsburg Virginia, a wonderful choice and a pleasant surprise. We will definitely return soon.
