“Good Food, not a "southern experience"..dirty”

When we got to the restaurant my son had to go potty so I hit that first. It was dirty with papers on the floor. As I was in there an employee came in and checked herself in the mirror and ignored the mess. When we got to the table my arms seriously stuck to the edge of the table. So the first thing I did was ask the waiter to spray it down. He didnt seem to understand extra english so I asked a second time. He sent someone out who also didnt seem to speak english and looked confused so I explained it was dirty. He wiped the table down but it was still sticky. I took out some baby wipes (they clean everything) and scrubbed the edges myself. Every wipe came back black as if the side of the table had never been cleaned and the material in the wipes stuck to the side of the table it was that sticky. So I ended up just sticking paper napkins into it so I didnt have to rest my arms on it. Anyway it seems like th whole place was employeed by foreign imports from Russia or something which is why I titled about the Southern Experience.I mean you may be vacationing in the south and are at a rib joint but dont expect a "Hey Y'all" from this staff. The ribs were very good, the chicken nachos were even good (you have to like deep fried chips). My daughter had the catfsh and it was ok. You tast the coating more than fish but it was tasty. The potato salad was not cold. I was hoping it was because it was just made and not that it was sitting out. My husband didnt get sick so we will assume it was just made and didt have time in the fridge before serving. We are fans of this chain but I dont know that I would go ito this one again. I wish we would have tried Pierces instead.

“Depends on Who You Ask”

Red Hot & Blue

Our experience at Red Hot and Blue probably proves that restaurant reviews especially should be taken with a grain of salt. My husband thought it was fabulous. My teenage daughter and I thought it was just about the worst BBQ we've ever eaten and a complete rip-off. (But I'm writing the review, so it gets one star!)
Kid and I got sandwiches (pork and beef respectively). The sauce that came on the sandwiches was tasteless, but when I drowned the meat in enough vinegar-based sauce, I was able to choke it down. (I left the bread though ... a soggy white roll.) The potato salad was even worse. Unseasoned potatoes mixed with equaly unseasoned mayo. (Kid opted for beans, which she said were ok.) Hubby got one of the combo platters, so maybe if you avoid the sandwiches you'll do better.

“Good food, frenetic atmosphere”

Red Hot and Blue has excellent barbecue plates, good service, and a fun, festive atmosphere. This particular location is situated in a very crowded and frantic part of Williamsburg. There's no doubt that the fairly long wait cheek-by-jowl with crabby strangers also waiting for a table takes away from the experience. Though I like the food at this local chain, I wouldn't return to this location.

We were surprised by quite a diverse menu, which included not only BBQ items but several fish entrees for non-meat-eaters. I had pulled chicken platter and my husband - catfish sandwich. I stole almost all his fries, they were so delicious! Coleslaw was fresh and BBQ sauce with my chicken was right to my taste (spicy but not hot). There were also 4 different sauces at the table. Kentucky pie was not out of this world but very nicely warm, with a scoop of good quality ice cream.

Our bill for 2 with some cocktails, desert, tax and tip was only 50$. All staff was very friendly and attentive.

My sister, son, and I ate here for lunch last week while on vacation. We had never seen this restaurant before, and were happy to try something new. We really enjoyed the experience. We shared the sampler platter (smoked sausage, cheeses, wings, poppers) for an appetizer, and it was quite good. For lunch, I had the pulled chicken sandwich with slaw, and my sister had the pulled chicken platter. The chicken was juicy and tender, and with the sauces on the table, very yummy! My son had the regular chicken tender platter, which was huge. Six or seven big tenders, with enough fries for four people, no kidding. We will definitely eat here again as soon as we have the chance!
