Wow! we loved this place!! My favorite was the Queen's Cake..OMgosh goooood! and the sweet potato muffins were awesome too. My son had corn bread..well it is not your average corn bread..it was sooo smooth, like cake and was delicious..We also paired this with that Chowning's bottled Root beer..I had the diet one and it was easily the best root beer that I have ever had.
I also managed to get a cook book from the Raleigh Tavern Bakery and I want to try to make the Queen's Cake..YUMMY!! The shop is so cute and the workers were super nice..a must see!

This little shop was my favorite dining spot in Colonial Williamsburg. It serves colonial baked goods such as Sally Lunn bread, cookies (called cakes), ginger cakes, apple spice cake, etc. They also sell a variety of different food stuffs marketed by Colonial Williamsburg as souvenirs. I had an apple pasty (turnover) for breakfast one late morning and it was incredibly delicious. The pastry was light and flaky and the apples were large and juicy. It was sweet and more of a dessert than breakfast. I also really enjoyed the Apple Spice Cake, which is a thick coffee cake filled with apples and seasoned with cinnamon and spices. This shop was always crowded when I was there and I highly recommend it for a taste of colonial food suited for modern taste buds.

We just got back from our first visit to Colonial Williamsburg, and we snacked here at Raleigh Tavern Bakeshop several times. On our first stop here, my husband asked what the apple crumble cake was - he was told it was not like what we think of when we think of a present-day crumb cake and that it was good. He tried a piece, and it was so good we got it several more times during our stay! It's more like a really thick, sturdy apple pie - there's nothing "cake-y" about it. The crust is almost like shortbread, and the crumb topping and the filling are loaded with cinnamon. It was amazing!! Try some for yourself!

I live in Williamsburg and I love this little shop. It is tucked away and a nice place to get breads, cider, lemonade, etc. And it is reasonably price. Try the ginger cakes or tavern rolls. Excellent.
