My husband and I spent the July 4th weekend in the Egret room at the Blue Heron. Carol & Bogdan were excellent hosts. They supplied us with perfect restaurant recommendations and know the island very well. The Egret room was very cute with an awesome view and balcony. We brought our Yorkie with us and she was very comfortable the whole time. I really looked forward to the afternoon treats that Carol set out every day. I'm sure I took more than my share of the brownies and oatmeal raisin cookies. They were delicious!
The Egret room is situated right next to the Walrus room and the Pelican room. From what I could see, both rooms are very cute. However, because the house is over 100 years old, movement in the hallway can be loud outside the rooms. There was a guest using the shared bath in the hallway that insisted upon using her hairdryer at 7AM each morning, which I thought was rude. Waking up to that sound at that hour while on vacation was not my idea of pleasant. Additionally, there were some guests that left super early to catch the ferry and woke us up with their movements in the hallway. That couldn't have been avoided, but perhaps some posted signs or house rules about quiet hours would have helped?
The location is also a fair distance from Eastsound and/or Deer Harbor. There is a fantastic restaurant right next door to the inn, though, but everything else is driving distance away. We toyed with the idea of leaving the car at Anacortes and only bringing bikes, but I'm glad we didn't. For casual riders like us, it would've been disastrous.
