“Happy July 4th!”

Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast

4 of 5 stars
Seattle, Washington
Jul 10, 2008

My husband and I spent the July 4th weekend in the Egret room at the Blue Heron. Carol & Bogdan were excellent hosts. They supplied us with perfect restaurant recommendations and know the island very well. The Egret room was very cute with an awesome view and balcony. We brought our Yorkie with us and she was very comfortable the whole time. I really looked forward to the afternoon treats that Carol set out every day. I'm sure I took more than my share of the brownies and oatmeal raisin cookies. They were delicious!

The Egret room is situated right next to the Walrus room and the Pelican room. From what I could see, both rooms are very cute. However, because the house is over 100 years old, movement in the hallway can be loud outside the rooms. There was a guest using the shared bath in the hallway that insisted upon using her hairdryer at 7AM each morning, which I thought was rude. Waking up to that sound at that hour while on vacation was not my idea of pleasant. Additionally, there were some guests that left super early to catch the ferry and woke us up with their movements in the hallway. That couldn't have been avoided, but perhaps some posted signs or house rules about quiet hours would have helped?

The location is also a fair distance from Eastsound and/or Deer Harbor. There is a fantastic restaurant right next door to the inn, though, but everything else is driving distance away. We toyed with the idea of leaving the car at Anacortes and only bringing bikes, but I'm glad we didn't. For casual riders like us, it would've been disastrous.

“Loves Dogs And You!”

Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast

Sep 4, 2007

If you have a dog, this is the place to stay! Even if you dont have a dog, this is the place to stay! Carol and Bogden are amazing hosts! They are right on the harbor. You can see the sea lions playing out your balcony. Upon arrival, you will receive a doggie basket complete with treats for your dog. The rooms are great, the food is wonderful but it is the hosts that make it the best! I use to be a travel agent and I research my places I stay a huge amount. I absolutely LOVED this place. Dont search any other places if you want to go to orcas. Very pleasant.

Booked on short notice with help from the Orcas Islan Chamber of Commerce. Owners were absolutely attentive and hospitable, and everything was fabulous.

“This is the Place to Stay in the San Juans!”

Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast

5 of 5 stars
Sacramento, CA
Aug 1, 2007

When we booked our stay at the Blue Heron, it was ranked as the third best bed and breafast on the island. By the time we got there, it had risen to number one. It's easy to see why!

Finding this wonderful sanctuary in the San Juans was the highlight of my family's vacation to the Pacific Northwest. Not to mention finding a bed and breakfast that welcomed our children with open arms. Carol and Bogdan were ready the minute we walked in the door with suggestions for things to do with our children as well as the family-friendly restaurants available on the island.

Our room featured a queen bed for my wife and I and a day bed with trundle that became two twins for our kids. The location is close enough to the main village of Eastsound to be close to shopping and restaurants but far enough away to make you feel you are at a small crossroads out in the country with a beautiful view of Deer Harbor from the outside patio of our room and the large open front porch.

The breakfasts we experienced were perfect in quality and quantity - a nice main dish with seasonal fruit is all a bed and breakfast needs in my opinion - and, again, they always asked about the likes and dislikes of the children and had cereal at the ready just in case.

Do your family a favor next time you are in the San Juans and stay at the Blue Heron!

We had an excellent stay at the Blue Heron and can't speak highly enough of the kind hospitality we received. Bogdan and Carol are wonderful hosts who cant do enough for you. It is a beautiful setting overlooking the bay. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Sitting on the private balcony looking out over the water was very relaxing.

Only having three bedrooms means there are not too many people but enough to make talk around the breakfast table interesting. We met some lovely people.

They provide a coffee maker and fridge for guests.

They are very pet friendly but even if you dont have pets (as we don't) their labrador is very well behaved and trained.

We felt pampered with home made cookies and brownies in the afternoons. Breakfasts were excellent. For those needing to leave early for a ferry they provided a bag of goodies to take away. They were even able to watch the ferry queues to let us know when to leave.

All in all a wonderful stay and if we ever went back to Orcas we would certainly stay here.
