I lived in the Tri_Cities for several years in the mid-80's, and Cavanaughs was considered the upscale place to stay. It was on the edge of Kennewick, convenient to the highway and the local shopping mall. The restaurant was among the best in town, and there was a woody Pacific Northwest ambience that customers always enjoyed when we booked them there.*
The hotel has changed to Red Lion ownership now, and the quality seems to have degraded. The check-in area is more bland and institutional, and the hallways and public areas are noticably tired (although clean). The outdoor pool area is nice, and the restaurant still has a lot of charm. the desk staff was nice, finding me a room although I didn't have a reservation, and honoring the AAA discount. The hotel is large, so watch which entry to take when you drive around. There are many interior stairs which may be a problem for the disabled.*
The room is very comfotable and clean: large bed, workspace, entryway and a nice bathroom. There is a TV, microwave, and minibar, and there is free wireless Internet access. The room was quiet and there was no problem with car or hallway noise. The bathroom had a cascade shower which is very nice.*
