I have stayed a few times at the Sunset View Resort over the years and the last couple of years it has really started to show it's age. There is a lot a defered maintence peeling paint and a whole stair case that has rotted away and never replaced. I was happy to see they offered wi-fi but when I tried to use it (to read the NY Times not porno) it was blocked. The woman at the front desk told me the owners live on site and use the same system and have a filter on it. When I asked about the guest coming first she hung up on me. There was one iron and ironing board for the whole complex and not shampoo or soap in the bath. I now understand why they charge your card for the whole stay at check in. I would suggest you avoid unless you have no choice.

In July 2006 we hosted a family reunion and chose Sunset View Resort for our location! It was WONDERFUL! We loved the family atmosphere there! We loved the view of the ocean (which could be seen from almost all of the rooms!), and the view of the area to the rear of the resort. If family members didn't feel like going out to the beach area, they could be very content and happy with what was available right at the resort - a volleyball court, a tetherball, a children's play area, a tennis court, croquet, horseshoes, a large picnic area with a BBQ and 2 hottubs. The rooms are large and most have kitchenettes - a real plus!
We had a great time and would definitely go back again! Thanks to the staff at Sunset View Resort for helping to make our reunion a huge success!

We made reservations at this motel because it was the only place near Long Beach that didn't want to charge us an extra $20 for our toddler and baby to stay. We thought it would be alright based on the reviews here, but we were sadly mistaken. The place was horrible. When we arrived, the staff made us pay for the 2 nights we reserved up front. Once in our room, we discovered the carpet was still damp from being cleaned and didn't dry by the time we left the next morning. The bedspreads and chairs were also damp. Things were falling off or falling apart everywhere such as the lock on the door (which had been broken and never replaced), the fan in the bathroom, the shower curtain rod, the rusty Kleenex holder, etc. The entire floor was sloping is places so that we could see into the hallway under our door on one side. The window did not shut all the way, so it stayed open about 2 inches all night, and it was cold. Oh, and there was a booger on our bedspread and a couple smeared on the wall in the bathroom! I didn't let my baby crawl on the floor at all. We stayed only one night and asked to be refunded for the second night, and they finally did, but reluctantly. We will never be staying here again, especially for the outrageous price we paid for the quality we got. Do not stay here with young children.

We had a second floor room with a great view of the Ocean and its only a short walk to a nice beach. Sleeping was a problem because there is a third floor and the squeaky floors and guests there walking around at 4AM became irritating. When I called and reserved the room, I was told it had two queens but it turned out one was a fold-out couch which was somewhat disappointing. There was some difficulty getting checked-in because the room wasn't ready when promised. They said they had to clean the carpet and it wasn't dry yet so we had to kill about an hour. The place is really in need of some remodeling inside since it seems to be 70's vintage.
