As long as you can walk up 1-2 flights of stairs, this is the place to stay in our opinion. My wife and I and two kids ages 7 and 10 spent to nights here during the weekend of the Kenetic Race--crazily dressed people pilot amphibious "sculptures' across a racecourse." We love the hotel's location in the center of town, with easy access to restaurants, the waterfront, etc. Each room is uniquely decorated and the entire hotel well appointed with antiques. Very professional and helpful staff and a convenient parking lot behind.

Just spent a beautiful weekend at the Palace Hotel. It is easy to see why this is the favorite hotel in Port Townsend. This wonderful old building has been restored with great attention to detail and history. The staff were friendly and completely unobtrusive throughout our stay. They provided us with information and advice when asked but did not intrude. Our room on the third floor was huge and overlooked a side street and a corner of Water Street. Other reviewers have found the Palace to be noisy, but our experience was just the opposite. Even though the hotel was full, we never heard a peep from our neighbors! And, there was little or no street noise even though we were there during a huge downtown party. I cannot say enough about the beautiful restoration done on this jewel of a building. I truly felt like I had stepped back into a more gracious and gentile time! Wished I had been wearing a tea dress as I walked up the main staircase instead of jeans and a t-shirt! The only drawbacks to a stay at the Palace, if one can call them drawbacks, is the lack of an elevator and the lack of hairdryers in the rooms. The staff will help you with your bags if need be. I plan on returning to Port Townsend in the near future and hope to enjoy a second stay at the Palace. This time, I hope I meet the ghost!

“Very, very nice place in Port Townsend”

I don't know if there is a better place in PT for the price, but if there is I would be very suprised. This place is very well kept and has a charming decor. Our room (Cptn Tiball's) was very nice. The Palace's Water Street location is great for meandering through the shops, walking to have a beer at Sirens or the corner brewpub, catching breakfast across the street or at Otter's Crossing on the harbor, walking to a fabulous dinner at the Silverwater Cafe (the halibut dinner is devine), renting a bike at PT Cyclery, taking an Orca watching tour or renting a sea kayak from the harbor, and is close to the Ferry station. PT was a great launching point for our trip to Hurrican Ridge in Olympic NP (about 60 miles one way). No doubt - when (not if) I return to PT - I'll be staying at the Palace.

PS. Parking is free in the back of the building.

We stayed in Miss Rose's room. HUGE jacuzzi tub, quiet, big bed, wonderful friendly staff. I would definitely go back to stay there. I don't say that about many places I stay.

the only thing I wonder about is the breakfast by the door that everyone is mentioning. We got nothing of the sort. Breakfast? Really? That would have been nice to see.

And next time I stay there, it will have to be in the fall or spring. Old buildings don't do well with weather extremes. It was freezing that night and hotter than ever in the morning as the sun came streaming through the windor.

“Fantastic place to relax”

The Palace is a great place to stay. The rooms are victorian motif and beautiful. Very clean, very nice. The location is right in the middle of downtown. A small breakfast is left on a stool in the morning which is great if you like to sleep in and eat breakfast at your leasure. The breakfast was small but fantastic, not the usual stale grocery store pasteries and warm juice. They also left a full Sunday paper which was unexpected and appreciated. There are large, comfortable common areas filled with antique furniture to relax, read, play games, talk ... Also, the hotel staff is great, very helpful and accomodating.

The only negatives I would mention were that the paticular room I stayed in was a little dark and the bed was a little firm. I would stay at the palace again and would recommend it to anyone I know. It is a little pricey but worth it for a nicer motel.
