“Not Really Four Star”

Hotel Hana-Maui and Honua Spa

We stayed at the Hotel Hana for three nights during our honeymoon. I don't quite understand the other reviews, except to say that there are amazing views and the property is well-manicured. This place is like a fancy summer camp, but not that fancy. The rooms are infested with bugs. They actually give you a can of Raid in the closet. The rooms are sparse and are not air conditioned (our room was hot the first night). Our room had fixtures encrusted with dirt, damaged bathroom tiles, loud pipes, peeling paint on the lanai, and was very dark even with all of the lights on. The wood shutters had a faint mildew smell. The staff is not overly friendly or helpful, for the most part. They did not seem responsive to our concerns. We chose this hotel because it was supposed to be quiet and peaceful, but many of the rooms are right next to the Hana community center, which was filled with screaming children and loud music. It is worth spending at least a night in Hana because the near-by sights are great, but I would recommend checking out another inn or resort. The Hotel Hana Maui is overpriced and over-hyped.

We were looking for a couple of days of peaceful solitude and found it at the Hotel Hana. No TV and no radio in rooms. One rarely encounters other guests. Super helpful and friendly staff. Very good restaurant. Perfect location. Clean and spacious rooms. Well worth the long winding drive!

“Remote paradise”

Hotel Hana-Maui and Honua Spa

We stayed for 2 nights at the Hana Hotel after staying 4 nights in the more "tourist-heavy" Kaanapali. I wish we stayed longer in Hana. There is a unique feeling of being in a secret and remote area of the world when you're at this hotel. During the day we only saw a few couples (sometimes by the pool, walking the expansive grounds, at the workout facility, or the spa). During dinner there were basically 2 seatings (6-6:30 and 8-8:30) and there are about 14 couples during the heaviest times.

Spa: Expensive, but 1st class. Highly recommend the Lomi-lomi massage. 60 min was $140. Steam room, in-door and out-door showers, plunge pool and whirlpool were well maintained.

Dinner: Overall, a good experience. Most, if not all the ingredients are grown on the island and were likely hand-picked. This attention to detail does increase the cost of dinners. The $55 for a 3 course mean (appetizer, entree, and dessert) are not a bad deal for what you get.

Room: We stayed in the sea ranch cottage with hot tub with an ocean view. The feather-toped mattress was very comfortable and loved sleeping with the windows open and the ceiling fan on. Room has a fridge and was stocked with water and fruit that was including with the room price. The size of the room and the deck was large.

Outings: Recommend driving to the 7 sacred pools at haleakala state park. If your up to it, there is a 4 mile hike (round trip) through a bamboo forest to a 400 foot waterfall. Bring water and a snack in a backpack.

Certainly a 4.5 star hotel. Can't wait to be able to return.

“Fantastic”

Hotel Hana-Maui and Honua Spa

My wife and I spent 5 nights of heaven in a Sea Ranch cottage and what a treat this was. We arrived during a flash flood and literally followed a front end loader for awhile who was removing debris from the road to Hana. Very cool. But we were certainly ready for some peace after the gnarly ride in and boy did we find it here.
Our cottage was a short distance from the sea, which crashed throughout the night. What a glorious sound that is to sleep to as we probably added years back to our lives from its soothing effect. It is a bit of a walk to the cottages if the weather is bad (it was) but they have great shuttle service with their golf carts although we got drenched during one downpour. They do have umbrellas available and we enjoyed the quiet walk back after an incredible meal at the restaraunt.
We were a little nervous about the food quality having read past reviews. However as seasoned fine diners we were extremely impressed with the food quality and originality with the local ingredients. They have a price fix menu that lets you choose the number of dishes you want and this suited our tastes so we could decide each night how much decadent dining we would indulge in. Their wine list was also top notch for the islands, a special treat for us.
The service was great and the spa was well done with a great steam room-plunge pool included at no charge. The staff was helpful directing us on nature hikes and called ahead for us to the 7 pools to make sure the road was open to get there.
Our room was gorgeous and quite spacious. We are trying to figure out how to move in permanently. Powerball maybe?
We cannot wait to go back. Spendy but completely satisfying.

“Awesome”

We stayed at the Hotel Hana Maui for two nights and I have nothing but great things to say about it. We loved our sea ranch cottage (#301). The views from the deck were as good as it gets. In fact, we loved it so much that we dragged our bed out onto the deck to sleep. We were a little worried about the food service (after reading the reviews), but we have nothing but good things to say since staying there. I will say that breakfast service was a little slow, but we got there at 7:30 am and we were able to get out by 8:30. We decided against eating in the dining room, as the bar had music and was a much more relaxed setting. The pool and jacuzzi were awesome as we basically had them to ourselves. This place is definitely worth a "splurge" and we will be going back for sure. An added treat was that they have a small 3 hole golf course here that we played (it wasn't maintained like a Kapalua), but we walked around with our "cold ones" and had a great time (the views are incredible).
