“Kamaole Nalu- Great Value! Great Views!”

I have stayed at 4 oceanfront condo complexes in So. Kihei and like Kamaole Nalu better than the more expensive neighboring properties. Rates are less, people are friendler, and the pool is better situated to catch the sun all day. The lanais are open to the expansive views on two sides, giving great views both west and south. Washer and dryer in unit is a "must have" convenience for me, and I like the free cable Internet access. Although small, the galley kitchens have all the necessities. The oceanfront BBQ's are nice, however there is need for a couple table and chair sets on the lawn at which to enjoy the meal..or simply sit and watch the sunset and turtles.
There are plenty of chaise lounges, but they're not the easiest seating for older or infirm visitors.
Just returned from my second visit to Kamaole Nalu, renting 3 different condo units for extended family members ranging in age from 5 to 73. It was the perfect choice for all ages.
UNIT 604 was a lovely condo on the top floor with nice furnishings and a wonderful view. It only had 1 TV, which can be a problem if traveling with children who want to watch cartoons when you want to watch the news.
UNIT 104 was on the ground floor. I selected it for my husband and myself after carefully studying online photos of units. I was disappointed to find that the comfortable-looking large sectional had been replaced by a sofa and small chair. Next time I'll know to ask if the photos are up-to-date. A plus for this unit is that there were 3 TV's, and it was very convenient to the pool and front lawn.
UNIT 102 was another ground floor unit chosen because the rate is lower the farther back the unit is from the ocean. This turned out to be my favorite unit. It was cool, quiet, and well-decorated with TV's in the living room and master bedroom. Other reviews mention road noise from units ending in "1" or "2", but for early risers or those in the south-facing master bedroom this shouldn't be much of a problem.
The staff at Nalu was very accommodating. We had two minor problems (burned out light bulb and kitchen cupboard door askew); both were promptly fixed. Annie is the property manager who seemed to work from early morn til sunset keeping the grounds and pool safe and looking good. Sheryl, in the office, was very helpful before and during our trip. Other things we like are the small size of the complex (just 36 units), the refreshing saline pool, and the short path to Kamaole II beach- one of the best on the island.

“What a view”

My family stayed in #404 for 6 nights. We really enjoyed our stay. The only thing noisy was the waves, which we loved listening to at night. The staff (Cheryl) is very friendly. The location next to Kam #2 is unbeatable. By far my favorite beach in Hawaii. The pool was clean and refreshing. Our bed was as comfortable as mine at home. The kitchen cooking area is very tight. The only negative was me banging my head on the cupboard. Outdoor grill area is nice. The balconys are very close and if you have a talkative early riser as a neighbor your sleeping in may not happen. The website and the video that is on their web site is very accurate. I would certainly recommend the 04,05, or 06. You pay a bit more but well worth it. I would like to see a better view then the one in #404. I am not sure there is one. We are looking forward to our next stop on Maui. We would stay at the "nalu" again without question.

“Wait until construction ends!”

A few days before we were to arrive, the management called and said there was some construction taking place, but they would give us a discount on our room. They couldn't be very specific about where it would be, but said it was on the back side of the unit so shouldn't be a big problem. Having spent hours on the internet trying to find a place on the beach, I already knew that all the best places in our price range were booked, so we decided to go ahead. We had no idea the construction was going to be on our floor and directly outside our door. It was so loud we couldn't even hold a conversation and trying to get back down to the ground floor was almost impossible. The stairway was blocked and to get to the elevator the workers had to stop and move everything so we could get by. There also were notices up that the entire floor would be closed with no access from 9 to 4. It was a disaster and no kind of discount could ever make up for it. I asked to be moved. They said nothing could be done since all the condos are individually owned, but after expressing my complete and utter despair, they found a way to do it and and moved us up two floors. It made all the difference in the world. We went from unit #204 to #404, which turned out to a nicer unit (better decor) and a much better view of the beach. We loved hearing the ocean waves at night and being able to walk right out onto the beach. It was a little hard sleeping at night. The building gets the direct sun all day and without air conditioning, it stays pretty warm. The back bedroom is noisy and the beds are small twin size. I thought there was a bathtub, but I was wrong. There also isn't much privacy as the people on the next lanai and the hotel across from us could look directly in our bathroom and bedroom if the curtains were open. But all in all we were happy there and would stay there again because of the location and view.

We stayed in Maui at the Kamaole Nalu Resort, in condo #405 from 09.08.06 to 09.17.06 and loved it. This is a newly remodeled condo with a beautiful view of the ocean and Molokini. The resort itself is a little outdated, but the maintenance of the grounds and the staff more than make up for it. Kamaole Beach #2 is located steps away from the resort and at this time of the year there were very few people on it. The complex is very quiet and located in an area that has lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. The only downfall of this resort is that you hear hear a lot of street noise from the second bedroom, none of the condos are equipped with A/C and the parking lot is very small. Despite these things I will definitely stay there again.
