I have stayed at 4 oceanfront condo complexes in So. Kihei and like Kamaole Nalu better than the more expensive neighboring properties. Rates are less, people are friendler, and the pool is better situated to catch the sun all day. The lanais are open to the expansive views on two sides, giving great views both west and south. Washer and dryer in unit is a "must have" convenience for me, and I like the free cable Internet access. Although small, the galley kitchens have all the necessities. The oceanfront BBQ's are nice, however there is need for a couple table and chair sets on the lawn at which to enjoy the meal..or simply sit and watch the sunset and turtles.
There are plenty of chaise lounges, but they're not the easiest seating for older or infirm visitors.
Just returned from my second visit to Kamaole Nalu, renting 3 different condo units for extended family members ranging in age from 5 to 73. It was the perfect choice for all ages.
UNIT 604 was a lovely condo on the top floor with nice furnishings and a wonderful view. It only had 1 TV, which can be a problem if traveling with children who want to watch cartoons when you want to watch the news.
UNIT 104 was on the ground floor. I selected it for my husband and myself after carefully studying online photos of units. I was disappointed to find that the comfortable-looking large sectional had been replaced by a sofa and small chair. Next time I'll know to ask if the photos are up-to-date. A plus for this unit is that there were 3 TV's, and it was very convenient to the pool and front lawn.
UNIT 102 was another ground floor unit chosen because the rate is lower the farther back the unit is from the ocean. This turned out to be my favorite unit. It was cool, quiet, and well-decorated with TV's in the living room and master bedroom. Other reviews mention road noise from units ending in "1" or "2", but for early risers or those in the south-facing master bedroom this shouldn't be much of a problem.
The staff at Nalu was very accommodating. We had two minor problems (burned out light bulb and kitchen cupboard door askew); both were promptly fixed. Annie is the property manager who seemed to work from early morn til sunset keeping the grounds and pool safe and looking good. Sheryl, in the office, was very helpful before and during our trip. Other things we like are the small size of the complex (just 36 units), the refreshing saline pool, and the short path to Kamaole II beach- one of the best on the island.
