“What I expected”

Aston Maui Lu Resort

I booked the Maui Lu based on the total price of the trip. I wasn't expecting a 5 star resort by any means. If you want that, then spend your $400.00 a night on the Hilton. But being on a budget and not planning on spending my entire trip in a hotel room, I was very pleased with the Maui Lu. The room was clean with maid service daily. We called a week ahead and asked for a king bed. They told us we would have to request that when we arrived. We checked in and were surprised when they said that our request for the king was noted and that is what we got. And it was a very comfortable bed at that!! The room was on the 2nd floor but the sweetest guy loaded our luggage from the car & wouldn't let us carry a thing. The entire staff was helpful and met all of our requests. Nice size mini fridge, coffee pot, but they only provide 1 coffee packet then charge $1.00 a day. Just bring your own coffee pods like I did. They do have coffee & tea in the morning in the lobby plus a microwave & toaster. Nice pool area, just lacking a hot tub. The beach is tricky to get to if you are in the main hotel complex and not in a beach front. You have to cross the street to get to it but it is somewhat secluded and nice. All in all, our experience at the Maui Lu was very good. Older hotel but they have done a fairly good job of keeping it maintained. I would stay there again. Like I said, the purpose of my trip wasn't to spend it in a hotel room but to explore the beautiful Island again. And the staff at the Maui Lu made that possible with all their great advise on what was happening and the good spots to go for things!

“2 Stars for the 2 Dead Cockroaches”

Aston Maui Lu Resort

I stayed two nights here on business. My room was very large and oceanfront which was great, but just very old and dirty in appearance. After my first night I awoke to two dead cockroaches on the floor (that weren't there when I went to sleep). I was in a hurry for work and left them for housekeeping to clean up. After being gone all day I found the bed had been made and the garbage taken out, but both cockroaches were still belly up on the floor - they didn't touch them.

I would only recommend this hotel to people who get oceanfront rooms. The location of those rooms are across the street from the main hotel and are really right on the water. The beach is fairly vacant too, which is great. I wouldn't recommend it as it appears incredibly dirty, but probably worth it for the oceanfront rooms as they are affordable. This hotel is definitely not for everyone, but if you don't mind old hotels and are travelling on a budget, get an oceanfront room....but I guess you'll have to take the dead cockroaches out yourself.

“Relax and enjoy what GOD left at Maui”

I am a 53 year old business man from central Indiana my wife and I have traveled all over the United States and have seen a lot of things. With that said if you have not taken a week and stayed at the Aston Maui Lu you may need to. One of the best trips I have taken, They will make you feel at home and will not interrupt your stay, The staff is great and the location is one of the best I have seen.
If you need a 5 star Motel and need all the glitz and lights do not go there but if you need a rest and one of the nicest places to get it, It is there. The Maui Lu was magical. The ocean view room/lanai gave us breathtaking sunsets and an unspoiled view of the ocean. The private cove was about 30 yards from our door the grounds were impeccable. The staff was outstanding You can set on the beach in the morning and have coffee and just get your self In the mind set for a great day, There is a lot to see on Maui and a lot of great places to eat but the best is just relax and enjoy what GOD left at Maui We loved waking up in our room on the beach and falling asleep listening to the ocean waves and please do not destroy the place We will be back GOD willing, Thanks for a great stay and SHAKA

“Not What Was Expected”

Aston Maui Lu Resort

It's hard to know what hotel you really want to stay at when travelling to an island you've never been at and can't preview. I was really disappointed with the Aston Maui Lu Resort because it sounds like a classy hotel and I figured it was a resort. It really is more of a retreat and looks like a camping ground. I don't go to spas but thought resorts offered spa services, thinking it would be more upscale than a motel at least. The rooms are entered to from outside, which is alright, but you can track in dirt and sand easily if you are not careful. The room I stayed in had 2 chairs and a couch (both which were filthy) and bugs from outside crawling on the corners of the room. I know Hawaii wants to be ecological, but there are organic pesticides, so come on!. The bathroom has ants, too, but since that was the only non-carpeted area, that's the only ares we saw them. The carpet behind the bed is not vacuumed, and the bedstands have previous guests' watermarks from beverage cups. There is no blowdryer, just in case you wanted to use it. However, there is a refrigerator, so it's not so so bad.

“This place gets a bad rap”

Aston Maui Lu Resort

4 of 5 stars
South Lake Tahoe, CA

For the value, I really think the Maui Lu is a great place to stay. It really depends on what you want to get out of the place you stay at. If you are wanting a fancy resort with a poolside bar, this isn't the place for you (go to the Westin!). But if you want a place to sleep and storage your luggage while you are out exploring the island the Maui Lu is sufficient. When we got to the hotel, I was actually pleasantly surprised, after reading so many horrific reviews. The room is nothing fancy, but comfortable, and clean. We had a nice balcony overlooking a lawn/garden. We ddid not opt to upgrade to the ocean view rooms (which seem nice- right on the beach). My boyfriend and I (in our late 20s) were not planning on spending a lot of time in the room, and we really didn't! We are adventure types- love hiking, surfing, snorkeling, etc. So we filled our days with all those types of activities, so by the time we returned to the room we were exhausted. The great thing about staying at the Maui Lu? Location! Being in Kehei makes it easy to access all parts of the island. It is close to the airport and so many attractions. During a later part of our stay we got a hotel in Kanapali, which was wonderful, but a little bit out of the way.
My biggest complaint about the Maui Lu: one of the days we were there we came back to the room around 5 to shower before dinner (we were covered in salt water and sunscreen) and i could not get any hot water. I didn't have that probelm any other time, but I was really annoyed at the moment.
I hope this review helps! Think about what type of traveller you are, and if you are like me, the Maui Lu isn't so bad. The staff was really friendly and check-in/out was super easy. and they have free parking!
