We stayed at the Pineapple Inn from September 20th - 27th. My husband and I had the Lanai room. My inlaws stayed in the room above us with an ocean view and my brother inlaw stayed in the cottage with his wife and toddler. Pineapple Inn is a beautiful place to stay if you want to feel like you are staying in a home and not a resort. We received an email that our rooms would be open for us and that we could go directly to them when we arrived. I thought that was a little odd but once we arrived I realized there is no "front desk". The owners were on vacation and there was a nice woman that we found staying there and taking care of the place in their absense. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and our rooms were very nice. Our fridge was stocked with bagels, fruit, granola bars, juice, english muffins, oatmeal, chocolates and some other things. That basically covered our breakfast for the week which was nice. The room was very cozy and had a sink, microwave and a few dishes. The tv had many cable channels to choose from but there is no phone in the room. We didn't mind since we have our cell phones. The cottage is very nice for families. My inlaws had a full kitchen, two bedrooms, and a living room. This came in very handy since they have a two year old and we took advantage of their kitchen many times. There is also a gas BBQ on the patio of the cottage as well as one by the pool.
We paid $800 for the week which in my opinion you can't beat in Maui. Yes you do need a car to get anywhere but I think that is true no matter where you stay in Maui. I stayed in Kanaapali on my last trip at a resort and we still needed a car. The Inn is probably about a mile from the beach and only a 5 minutes drive to the beautiful Wailea beach, shops and resorts. The Inn is on a residential street but once you turn into the property it is not just your ordinary home. There is a large main house for the owners and then attached are 4 guest rooms. The cottage is located at the front of the property. There is also a shed with snorkeling gear, sand toys, boogie boards and many other beach items for kids and adults. This can be used by any of the guests and is on the honor system. The grounds, pool and the rooms were extremely clean. The only time I saw the woman taking care of the place was early in the morning as she cleaned up the grounds. She was also good about replenishing our towels. I don't know how she would know when we placed our towels in the hamper outside our room. I walked out of my room 5 minutes after putting the towels in the hamper and found new towels on top of the hamper waiting for me.
The only drawback that I saw (and I why this received 4 and not 5 stars) was not having someone accessible to ask questions at any given time. It would have been nice to speak to someone who lives there and get their take on local places to go. Not a huge deal though since we did have our Maui Revealed book. That gave us all the information we needed on finding little hidden beaches and waterfalls among other things.
Overall I would definitely recommend this place and the next time we are in Maui we won't hesitate to stay at Pineapple Inn again!
