The Koa Lagoon was everything Trip Advisor recommendations promised: a top notch property on every level. My wife and I spent our 25th anniversary in room #503 (seems to be a popular one!) and were pleasantly surprised from the moment we walked into the unit. The view from the fifth floor was spectacular, with a partial view of Lanai to the west, Kahoolawe and Molokini to the south. We enjoyed mornings on the lanai drinking coffee, eating breakfast and taking in the view. Management/owners have taken obvious care to decorate the unit with a balance of practicality, taste and common sense. The kitchen was easy to use, outfitted with quality appliances (coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster, blender), utensils, cooking pans and pots. The living and dining room were simple and comfortable, the king bed incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom nicely appointed. In unit washer and dryer were small, but adequate. The laminate flooring made for clean and easy living. Air conditioning was slightly substandard...the living room/dining room unit never cooled adequately, which wasn't a huge issue because we were gone during the afternoon hours most days, but the sun was often brutal coming through the huge bay windows in the afternoon and the window shades didn't really compete. We had better luck in the bedroom with the A/C. For those who complained about the road noise out on So. Kihei, we had no problem at all since we ran the A/C at night which effectively blocked out the sound of the traffic. The one cautionary note is that is that the air conditioning unit blew directly on me while lying in bed. I improvised an airshield by using one of the pictures from the living room to deflect the gale force wind away from face. After solving that problem we slept like the dead. Like others, we didn't swim at the beach directly in front of the unit because of rocks. We headed south to Charlie Young and Kaamaloe I instead. A friend warned us that Kihei can be windy and it was, particularly in the afternoons when the trades started kicking in. We escaped to the pool where the cement walls and lanai blocked most of the wind, making it possible to swim and enjoy the afternoon sun. Since I'm a noise-a-phobe I'll include two additional points. When my wife and I were in the living room, we kept hearing a persistent low rumbling noise like thunder in the distance. We thought that's what it was at first. Then we realized it was the sound of our upstairs neighbors opening and shutting their patio sliding glass doors. It got really annoying at times with the traffic going in and out to their lanai. The other complaint was voices (and cigarette smoke) filtering in from the surrounding lanais. Other than that, the Koa Lagoon is built like a fortress so there is practically zero noise from footsteps above, below and to the side. Like I said, apart from a few nits, the Koa Lagoon is a great place and a terrific value. We'll be back!
