Vacationed at Mauii Sunset for a week in July 2007. we had a 2-bedroom 2 bath and it was perfect. less than $2000. for the week,. can't say enough for the location. The only downside, which we knew, was no beach. believe it when they say it, that line of grass you see is it, there is no beach, only slimey seaweed water with high waves. aloha.

My husband and I are always looking for value and we felt this was a very good value. The decor is dated, but who cares? We were only renting it for a week. We did not hear noise from neighboring units. The place was quiet with quiet hours between 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Nice pool with free books available and lovely views. We never had a problem getting a chaise. Most of the units have an ocean view. We enjoyed our unit because it was not too close to the ocean/pool or street. Trash chute down the hall was very convenient. Well manicured grounds. We did not notice a strong seawood odor others have complained about and enjoyed sitting on the ledge near the water at sunset. Because the rooms are small most probably have queen size beds but do have a daybed in the living area. Our unit was well equipped. We liked having two TVs and a VCR, plus beach towels. Location was only 10 minutes to Wailea and convenient to all amenities one would need on a condo stay. Overall we enjoyed our stay enough to come back in the winter only. Note; air conditioning is window units and ours was on a four hour timer, which could be problematic in summer months. Bring earplugs if the noise from the AC will bother you while you are sleeping. Internet access available for a fee, but in our case was not reliable.

WE absolutely loved our condo. It was clean, tastefully decorated and well maintained. We had a partial view of the ocean from our lanai and from the beach viewed the most awesome sunsets and watched the whales play. We would definitely book with Elmer again and have no problem in recommending this particular unit.

Was lucky that unit b-421 was available. Some of the units in the Maui Sunset have not been updated. Be sure to ask if that's important to you, or ask to see pictures.
I know the owner a fellow kitesailer, but often this unit is booked so far in advance that I can't get it.
It is a direct ocean front. It's on the 4th floor of the B building. The B building does not get as much sun on the lanai and into the condo's as the A building. Doesn't get as hot...more pleasant in the afternoon. The direct ocean front units have huge lanai's. This one has a table with 6 chairs, a lounge chair and table. It is a wonderful place to be all day.
The unit itself is a 2 bedroom 2 bath. BOth baths have been redone since the last time we were here. Then master has a huge shower...the 2nd bath a smaller one. In the MBR there is a queen, the second bedroom has two twins, which worked for our kids.
The living/dining area is very large and comfortable. There is a sleeper sofa in the living room. We never ate at the dining rooom area table. We ate all our meals outside on the lanai.
The kitchen has also been redone....granite countertops and new cabinets. The whole unit has tile floors so no sandy, icky carpet! The pool is great, there's also shuffleboard, and a putting green. The gym is small but my wife used it daily. I like the location for kitesailing...my son took surfing lessons right in front. The beach was clean...I read about seaweed and the smell. In the times we've been here we have never experienced that. They have seaweed removal equipment that seemed to come by every other day or so...but there was almost always no seaweed to remove! The kids like to take the boogie boards out and go watch the tutles. The snorlking isn't as good here as the beaches in Wailea, but that's easy to get to. All the good things about this place ourweigh that little inconvience. Plus, you need to explore lots of different beaches in Wailea and Makena!
One of the things I like about the location of this property is that it's close to things in Kihei, but away from the noisy part of Kihei. The post office, McDonald's are about 2 blocks away. Star Market is about 4 blocks away. The drugstore, where they have a farmers market is 2 blocks away. There is a great restaurant, the Big Wave which is 2 blocks away. There is a flea market, a block and a half away. Other things are a short drive. This is great for my kids as they are old enough to walk to McDonalds or to the flea market on their own!
I always like to share a good experience or a good find...
