“Great value for location, if you want luxuries look elsewhere”

This is the kind of place I love, but my wife doesn't. On the plus side, it's located right in the middle of one of the best beaches on Maui. There is a nice amount of open space, in contrast to most of the hotels/condo complexes in the area. The rooms are basic with one double bed, a twin bed/sofa, and a kitchen with full-size fridge, stove and microwave. The rooms all have a balcony or patio with a table and chairs as well. Our second-floor, garden-view unit (#223) had a nice view of the ocean (see the pictures I posted). They serve a nice continental breakfast in the Ohana room, which also has a TV and free wireless internet. There is a coin-op laundry room too, which came in very handy. And all of this for only $110 a night.

If you are used to staying in fancy hotels with all the modern luxuries, this place is not likely to impress you (or your wife, as I found out). But if you appreciate falling to sleep to the sounds of the ocean, rather than the hum of an air conditioner and your neighbor's TV, this bargain could be for you. I should add that after being there for two nights, my wife started to appreciate the Mauian a lot more

The Mauian Hotel is located on the beautiful Napili Beach on Maui's western shore, only a 10 minute drive from kapalua airport (island air) its location is great They have a great continental breakfast, and there right on the ocean, so you can watch the sun set behind molakai every evening, I would reccomend this hotel to anybody.

“Would not stay here next time”

The Mauian Hotel on Napili Beach

This hotel was a let down. Major problem was there is no A/C and it was quite hot the few days we were there so it was tough to sleep. Leaving the windows open allowed bugs and lots of outside noise to creap in.

The "free" breakfast and close location to Napili Bay are nice but next time I would not stay here.

I wanted to have a pleasant time for my 30th birthday and was going to stay for 5 days. I checked in and received a handful of useless pamphlets and my key which was the ground floor corner unit near the office and pool. I opened the door and brought my things inside and felt like the walls were crawling. The floors were dirty, bathroom had a smell and I decided to leave when l noticed the unwashed comforter on the bed. Although there was a $100 non-refundable deposit for canceling, I was more than happy to give them the money just so I didn't have to spend the night there. I know that this hotel boasts that everything is suposed to be aloha living but I think that is just an excuse for not remodeling the place. I ended up staying at a hostel in Lahaina where I had my own room and only paid $45/night for 5 nights. My advise, stay clear of the Mauian!

“Wonderful small hotel full of aloha”

The Mauian Hotel on Napili Beach

We first stayed at the Mauian in July of 2003 and loved it. The studio wasn't fancy, but it was very clean, fully stocked, and charmingly kind of old Hawaiian. We had a ground level room, and yes, we could hear our neighbors walking around above us, but it wasn't terrible. This summer, we stayed in a second floor room and had no problems of course :) The second floor room (209) was the unit closest to the ocean so we had a fabulous ocean view from the lanai (but even the "garden view rooms" are only about 50 yards from the ocean). We were literally right above the beach. I could sit out on the lanai and talk to my kids in the water and on the sand. The unit had recently been remodeled and looked beautiful. Daytime can be noisy because of the people on the beach, but things quiet down at night. The sounds of the ocean are pretty much all you hear after 8:00 pm.

We're not into the mega-resorts, so for us, the Mauian is perfect. It's small (something like 44 units), directly on a gorgeous and fun beach (like someone said in an earlier review -- you don't have to walk a zillion miles through resort grounds to get to the beach), and most importantly the people working there are full of aloha. Wilma and Joe are especially so friendly and helpful.

Napili is a great place to stay -- the beach is terrific. It is a way from the airport (45 minutes w/o traffic), but you're only 15 minutes or so from Lahaina, Kapalua is right next door (great beach for kids) and Honokowai (5 minutes or so away) has some good and inexpensive places to eat.

We wouldn't stay anywhere else -- the Mauian is a special place.
