This is a GREAT lowkey place to stay. There are no tv's, no air conditioning -(didn't need it at all).
It's a couple of miles away from the "happening" crowd, but it's a vacation spot.
First morning we went out on our balcony, there were spinner dolphins playing and whales going by.
The beach has no big rollers so you can swim a scuba around to your hearts content.
Things close down pretty early at this end of the island, but it's only a few miles to nightlife.
Would definately stay there again.
What this lovely little hotel lacks in 21st century amenities, it more than makes up for in charm. There is no room service. There is no 24 hour front desk service. My husband and I really waivered on whether to book this hotel given the possibility of a real "BOMB". When we arrrived in the parking lot, I can admit I was a bit worried. Once we came through the gate and into the courtyard, the palm trees and view straight into the ocean soothed any fears. Our room was 'beachfront' and never has a description been more accurate. During high tide, the waves were so strong we could feel them in our room. If no one has mentioned the water in Hawaii, be PREPARED. The waves are seriously strong. There is a lovely (perhaps a bit narrow) stretch of beach and it was not at all crowded. Many people sat on their decks and patios and opted to use the average size pool.
The hotel was not exactly as it was showed in the internet pictures, but in some ways it was better. Our room was clean, perfectly appointed, and the bathroom had been remodeled. We had a LARGE tile shower, new vanity and storage shelves. There were beach chairs and towels provided. There was a small kitchenette which we didn't use, but I know there were some dishes and pans/bowls. There was no A.C. in our room, but a fan which worked just as well. We left the sliding door open and felt the breeze all night.
My husband and I spent four nights in February during a two week honeymoon tour of Hawaii. When starting to plan our First Anniversary trip, The Mauian was the FIRST place we checked for availability. We didn't even consider the beach front condo on Kauai or the resort in Waikiki. We would not hesitate to return to this charmer. It is basic, but it is beautiful.

ServiceMy husband and I stayed in September and had a wonderful time. We loved the feel of the Mauian, the way guests came out of their rooms each night to watch the sun set. The beach was beautiful and we actually snorkeled with sea turtles. We were close to stores and were even able to cook out of the beachside grill. We would definetely recommend this to people who want to get away from it all, but don't want to stay at a large resort . If you want to walk out of your room and onto the beach and don't care about missing a beautiful lobby and bell hops and maybe a massage/manicure, this is the place for you. I enjoyed the feel of the Mauian with the trade winds blowing through our room. and the pulmaria growing right out front, it was just perfect.

Business servicePARADISE FOUND! The Mauian is a step back in time to when vacation properties were meant for peace & relaxation in a beautiful setting. The Mauian is a modest but very well maintained hotel at an absolutely stellar location. The beach is the best - within steps of whichever unit you are in. Excellent snorkling right off the beach and not far out. Water was clear and at one point we had five gorgeous sea turtles swimming about us. The unit (220) itself was very clean and everything was in perfect working order, albeit a bit older. But by no means was anything shabby in any way. That's exactly what giveds the Mauian it's charm. I almost felt like I was back in the 60's and experiencing what Hawaii was all about before mega resorts and all the rest. Front desk staff were outstanding, as were all staff members. The breakfast was a very good start to the morning; we took the cinammon bread, juice, coffee etc. back to our unit and had breakfast on our balcony. Pool was small but sparkling clean. Take a dip at night while the tiki torches are burning - magical! Of course, PARADISE may have a different meaning to many - keep in mind there is no air conditioning, no TV or telephones. And let me tell you, it was a treat not to have any of them! Lahaina is not far away and is a great little town with lots of charm. Plenty of places to eat nearby - whether fast food or more upscale. For a special evening and an excellent meal, try Vino at a nearby golf course. We visited three islands and stayed in many places. The Mauian was the tops in my book! If I could, I will definitely go back.
