“Not as "great" as everyone says...”

Our first night was a disaster! Our room was just awful...it was old, not what we had paid for and there was an exhaust system right next door, so we didn't sleep that night.

We made 2 complaints that night, but the staff said they could not do anything about it until the next morning!!!!

So, the next morning I spoke with Management and they said they would move us around 11am-OK, fine. The room was better.

The pool staff (that hand our towels and sun beds are [----]. But, the cocktail servers are awesome!

Beaches are great! Water is beautiful.

Food is SUPER expensive! Go to Longs or Safeway and stock up on snacks and food....breakfast at the hotel is a RIP-OFF! Its an ok breakfast (tastes good), but, I didn't feel good receiving a bill of $50 plus dollars for breakfast!!!

This Room: Nice bed, balcony is small and not comfortable to hang out. Bathroom is ok...bathtub and suck! Toilet area is nice.

Housekeeping is wonderful.

Keep in mind when you are around the pool the staff that hand out towels treat you like a criminal if you do not wear a very annoying, thick, colourful braclette that is supposed to indicate that you are part of the resort. I find this really weird....we have paid a huge sum of money to be on holiday...not to be watched and told what to do (another form of policing would be better). Plus, you have to return the pool towels by 5pm....stupid! After 5pm is the nicest time to go for a swim.

Anwways, definately NOT a 4 start hotel....more like a 3.5, but nice.

Would not come to this hotel again unless it was cheaper.

“Wonderful Experience”

My husband and I just returned from a 6 night stay at the Sheraton Maui. We had been somewhat concerned in December and January about the reviews we had read on Trip Advisor when we were deciding on a hotel with our travel agent at AAA. After much research we decided to have our travel agent book the room for us using our AAA discount rather than booking online. We had her request building 6 because we had read good things about the view as well as the peace and quiet. She was told that they couldn't guarantee, but they would do what they could. We got to the hotel from the airport just after 3:00 in the afternoon. We were met by the bell staff and checked in very quickly at the front of the building. We didn't even need to go in. After a beautiful flower lei greeting for both of us, we were shown to our room in building 6. It was a ways away from the main lobby and front of the building, but that was the point. We had booked a deluxe ocean front room and the view didn't disappoint. It was absolutely beautiful. There was a full view of Lanai'i and Molokai'i. We saw whales a couple of days, and people jumping off Black Rock when they dared. The room was plenty big with a king size bed. It was clean and cleaned well every day. The furnishings were fine but starting to show the signs of age and wear. It could have used new carpet or at least a carpet cleaning and maybe some new dressers. The pads on the lanai chairs were worn as well. But this was the only issue we had with the room.

The only issue we had with the hotel itself was one day it was very windy and blew all the "Do Not Disturb" signs on the ground. (There are open air hallways throughout) When we came back from snorkeling for the day, a sign was on our door saying they had attempted to clean our room but the "Do Not Disturb" sign was on the door. We had not put it there. Ours was still inside the room. We called housekeeping and they arranged to come clean at 3:30 after we had left again for the evening. They apologized for the inconvenience, and the room was cleaned when we returned.

The bulk of our stay was fantastic. We didn't have to fight to find pool chairs. We were always able to find two together when we wanted them. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The concierge was extremely helpful and patient in helping us book a dinner cruise for our anniversary. The Black Rock Steakhouse and the Lagoon Bar had very good food that was not priced any differently than comparable bars and restaurants here. The banana margarita at the Lagoon Bar was yummy! Don't order a lemonade from the Sundowner Bar. It's bar gun sweet/sour. Yuck!

We didn't mind the 5 minute walk from our room to the pool/beach area. It helped burn all those extra calories that you eat on vacation. Besides, we were away from the action and that kept the room itself a little quieter. (There was no problem with noise in any way, shape, or form.) We had a rental car but maybe wouldn't have needed one. There was transportation available to bring guests to Whaler's Village and Lahaina. Whaler's Village was close enough to walk to, but Lahaina was not. The regular trips were convenient, but sometimes very full - standing room only on the shuttle. We also walked to the Westin one evening for their Luau. Highly recommend that.. The food and drinks were fabulous and the entertainment was very good. Besides, there was no buffet line! Everything was served family style at the table.

Overall, my husband and I thought the extra money spent to get the view and the quiet away from the main part of the resort was well worth it. The 20.00 per day resort fee seemed a little much. We didn't use any of the services it paid for, but we knew about it ahead of time and made the decision to stay there despite that. So no complaints from us. The staff was great, and even the check out process was simple. We reviewed our charges which were correct, they printed a statement, took our keys, and we were on our way! The only bad part was that our vacation was over and we had to leave!

“Great Hotel, Great Location”

My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton Maui for 5 nights in April. The Sheraton Maui is a great mid priced hotel in a great location. The walk to Whaler's village is nice, where you can find three resturants and a mall like fast food court, along with several tourist and high end retail shops. Lahaina town is a short 5 minute drive. Front street has lots of great resturants and shops. I would highly recommend the Lahaina Store and Oyster Bar. It is a raw bar that suprisingly has the best prime rib I have ever tasted. Nice atmosphere, not too bad on price.

Now for the Sheraton. Our room was in building 4. It was larger than your basic hotel room, and had a large bathroom and balcony. Housekeeping was great everyday. The view is amazing. Snorkeling at the resort is great. Snorkel equipment is available at the resort, but is much cheaper if you rent in town. I cannot report on the food at the resort, as we mostly were out exploring Maui during the day and had dinner in Lahaina or Whaler's Village every night. I did get a pineapple smoothie the last day we were there and although it tasted great, it was in what I would call a small cup and was costly at 9.50. The best thing about this resort is the beautiful beach, great rooms and location.

Basically, if you are in wanting to go to Hawaii because you just want to go to Hawaii, stay at the Sheraton Maui and you will not be dissapointed. It is really great. I really believe that Maui probably has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. If you are looking for only a beach vacation somewhere, anywhere, I would look toward somewhere else based on cost.

My husband and I stayed at the Maui Sheraton for our 10th anniversary in December. Maui had just had a huge storm the day before and so we moved rooms at 2 times until we got one that did not smell like mildew. A lot of the rooms facing the ocean direcly had been flooded. Our friends had a nice room too. The beds were comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The pools were beautiful but way too cold to swim in. We rented snorkel equipment at a hut down the boardwalk (the hotel's were more expensive) and used it every day at Black Rock (fair snorkeling). I would definitely stay at the Sheraton again if I ever went back to Maui in the future.

“Great Stay in Maui”

Sheraton Maui Resort

My wife and I stayed at the Sheraton for a week and enjoyed every minute of it. The grounds, room, service and staff were first-class. We opted for a package that included breakfast which was fit for everyone's appetite. Our deluxe room (about $600 per night) had a direct view of Lanai; we had never seen so many whales - it seemed as though you could reach out and touch them. Since we checked late in the evening a king bed room (that we thought we booked) was not available but the hotel did move us to one the next day. In addition to excellent hotel dining, there are plenty of great restaurants in Lahaina; Longhi's, Kobi's and Kimo's to mention a few. If you like fresh seafood Maui is the place for you. We found that the helicopter ride up to the volcano was exhilarating. You've got to try it. We had rented a convertible car but rarely used it with the top down. Pretty much all attractions can be viewed within a 60 minute drive except for the infamous Road to Hana. We passed on it but did view the remote area on our helicopter excursion. Note that most helicopter operators heavily discount their fares if you call in and make your reservation after 5:00 pm. You may have to get up a little early but it may be worth the savings.
