Just returned from 3 nights at the Sheraton in Maui.
SUPERB!
After a horrible start to our vacation (flight delays, changes etc.),we finally arrived at the hotel in the dead of night.
Here everything changed.
We were treated with the utmost courtesy and even a little empathy. To our surprise , we were upgraded to an "oceanfront" room which was absolutely perfect. The room was huge, the view was spectacular, the decor was recently updated, the location close to everything, yet quiet. We really couldn't ask for better.
Upon check-in the "resort fee" was mentioned again, so there really was no reason to be surprised at all. Let's face it, it is just a marketing gimmick to show an artificially low price (like freight/dealer prep., on a car), so simply add it to the room rate to get your total. This fad will soon fade away like all bad ideas.
The beach, pool, and service were all outstanding. The charge of $40 per day for the cabana's was just silly (another bad idea). The buffets were very good while the pool side snacks were poor and pricey.
The location of the hotel is fantastic, with shopping and recreation close by. The snorkeling was great.
We were sad to leave the Sheraton and wished we could have stayed longer, ah well, maybe next time. Aloha!

The Sheraton is a great hotel. We stayed there on our honeymoon and loved it! Everything was perfect. It's a great location and snorkeling is right there! The only complaint that I have is that they charge a $20 surcharge for every night. It includes some perks, but we never even used them. It did make us mad. We stayed at the Marriott on Kauai and they did not have a charge like that.

Stayed for 5 nights in early May in a deluxe ocean front room. The room was huge. We saw a turtle from the balcony almost every day. We requested building 6 and as other reviewers mention, this is set a ways off from the main hotel. Beautiful view of beach and other islands. Very easy walk to Whalers Village where the restaurants had more reasonable prices than the hotel restaurants. Staff was very nice.

“Loved it!”

We stayed at the Sheraton for a week for our honeymoon and just returned. We loved it! Upon check-in we were offered complimentary valet parking our first night. Check-in was fast but we got to our room and noticed we were given a handicap room. It wasn't a huge problem but the shower chair was kind of odd. We originally booked a garden view king. We went to to the front desk and asked if we could possibly transfer to another room and they kindly upgraded us to a top floor partial ocean view, no charge. They also found out it was our honeymoon, and when we returned from dinner champagne and glasses were waiting on us.
Anita and Monica were excellent at the concierge desk. Sam at the Starwood desk also helped us because we assumed she was concierge and didn't figure it out until we had everything we needed. They were all great and so nice!
We ate at the Lagoon Bar (multiple times) and at Black Rock Steak and Seafood. Everything was excellent! We both highly recommend the Lava Flow beverage!
The one problem we did have was that we never figured out the shuttle service to Lahaina and the Whaler's Village. We only tried it once though. Westin shuttles kept arriving to pick up and one driver told us he couldn't take us and finally another Westin guy told us to hop on after we waited 45 mins. We found the 5 min back walk to the Whaler's Village better anyway. It is paved the whole way. Lahaina you cannot walk to. At the Whaler's Village, we recommend Hula Grill and Leilani's (sister properties). The same owner also has Kimo's in Lahaina which was great too.
We had a rental car for the week and found it well worth the cost ($160 compact with Hertz) even though it sat undriven for a few days.
Parking was never overcrowded and we always found pool chairs but never bothered with beach chairs. Snorkeling was the best! We went two days for an hour ($8 a person) and saw sea turtles both times. The turtles tend to eat between 2 and 3 p.m. You don't have to go our far either. We never even passed the end of the Black Rock.
Do your souvenier shopping at the Lahiana Cannery Mall.
As far as other great places:
1. Cruiser Phil's biking down Haleakala. We loved our guys and they were safe with us. It was pricey though. Our disappointment was that we never got to actually see the crater. We were one of the first groups to arrive and it was so overcast and rainy that nothing ever appeared. It was very cold up there as well!
2. Air Maui helicopter ride over West Maui and Molokai. We went with the less expensive tour for 45 mins and thought it was great. We bought and DVD of our ride ($40) which we should receive any day. We also were able to request the front seat due to our weight (both of us about 130 lbs).
3. Road to Hana. The road was long and tiring, but beautiful. I think our problem was that we just didn't get up early enough because we arrived at the Seven Pools and the rain started coming down. We were pretty bummed after our day drive. Soaked and dirty, we drove down to Charles Lindbergh's grave which was very nice. It was quiet and very pretty.
Sheraton exceeded our expectations and after being back at home for one day we are trying to figure out how to move. Thanks to all!

“Absolutely wonderful!”

My parents and I just returned from an 8 night stay at the Sheraton and I think we all agree that we picked the best hotel on he beach for what we want.

When you first arrive, you are greeted with a lei and they take you right up to your room to get settled. You simply go back to the front desk when you are more relaxed. We stayed in room 2402, which had an amazing view of the ocean, plus the pool area and the luau. We did take the walk to Building 6 just to see what all the hype was about and, while it is a little confusing, it wouldn't take more than a day or two to get used to. Plus, they have parking right there. So, if you get placed in Building 6, smile...the walk is nice and the views are wonderful.

Building 2, where we stayed, was perfect for us because it was right in the center of everything. The room was spacious enough for the three of us, with enough closet space and drawer room to please everyone. The lanai was a perfect way to wake up in the morning, and the bathroom....well, needless to say, coming back home to our bathroom was a huge downgrade. The closet contains a safe that tends to have a mind of its own and sometimes makes you repeat the closing process in a different way than you may have done previously. However, we definately made use of it. It stored a laptop, camera gear, as well as other knick knacks, so if you are worried about leaving certain personable items out in the open, I definately recommend using the safe.

The staff at the hotel really are warm and inviting. Everyone from the front desk to housekeeping always smiled and greeted with an "Aloha!" We only had one problem the first day. My parents are seriously allergic to down feathers in the pillows, so upon being taken to our room, we specifically asked to have them removed and replaced with hypoallergenic pillows. They were more than happy to change them, but when we got back from dinner (roughly 4 hours after the fact), we realized the pillows were never changed. Well, we were all exhausted by that point, having been on a 10.5 hour flight, with a 6 hour time difference from home. My dad was incredibly frustrated and we weren't able to call the front desk. My mom went down to the lobby area and they apologized and sent a maid up right away. What was nice though is the front desk receptionist called our room a few minutes later asking if we wanted the duvet removed, since it had feathers too. We really appreciated the fact that they took the time to make sure we were getting everything we needed.

Yes, the $20 daily resort fee is a bit outrageous, but you'll find that prices on Maui are all high. If you learn to just forget about it, you'll enjoy your vacation much more. I do recommend taking the 5 minute walk down to Whaler's Village. Definately check out Leilani's restaurant; delicious food, very reasonable prices compared to everywhere else. Also, if you plan to lay on the beach, rent beach chairs from Snorkel Bob's in Lahaina. 2 chairs, umbrella, and cooler for $15 a week...trust me, it's a steal.

No matter what kind of vacation you are looking for, Sheraton Maui is a great place to stay at. Whether you are a Pool fanatic (the pool is chilly, but very nice and big), a snorkel fiend (take the Teralani trip, or just snorkel out at Black Rock), or a shopaholic (Lahaina is a funky little town that you have to go to at least once), the Sheraton Maui is your best bet to ensure you get a great night sleep before your next fun-filled day!
