This hotel was PERFECT for us (Family of 4; Kids = 2 and 4). We booked 1 bdrm and "upgraded" to 2 bdrm. The place is totally remodeled and the rooms/ grounds are top shelf. The location was great for us. We walked to Front Street every day. Booked Whale Watch that departed from town. We PARKED ON THE STREET EVERY NIGHT. See if you can get spot on street before paying $15/ night for lot parking. Drive to Kaanapali/ Black Rock about 15 minutes. Nice beach. Had to pay to park at Whaler's Village. BETTER/ BEST BEACH = Kapalua Bay. Awesome snorkeling and the protected cove was PERFECT for the kids. We ended up going back to this beach after exploring Honolua Bay (little/ no sand) and DT FLEMMING (all sand and decent size waves and wind). Very impressed with Maui. First time there after several trips to Caribbean.

“Good resort”

We arrived at 2 pm and to our surprise were immediately booked into a room. We had expected to be told that we had to wait until 3 pm. We were also upgraded to a 2bdrm/2 bath suite without being told prior to arriving in the room. The young man checking us in had not told us a couple of other standard pieces of information we found out later.
The suite was beautiful with comfy beds although as others have mentioned the lanai was useless. This didn't matter in our case as the lanai was only several yards from the main highway as were the bedroom windows. There is also a traffic light about half a block away on this highway which means the trucks and buses start to accelerate as they go by. Unfortunately I am a light sleeper and the AC consisted of individual units in each room which of course click on and off so the the white noise from AC was not an option for me.
After two nights of little sleep at 9 am on Sat morning I spoke to the manager, Marlon, about switching to another unit. He was polite but thought he couldn't do much since all the rooms were "blocked". He also implied that we had had a free upgrade and we should be happy with what we had. I suggested that since it was a Sat and we were staying for another three days surely there would be new arrivals that he could switch into our room. He said he would look into it and let me know by mid-day. When I phoned back at mid-day he said there was nothing he could do. Perhaps there wasn't but I got the impression that he hadn't spent any time on it especially since he was a bit confused as to who I was when I phoned back at mid-day. The other factor could have been that a lot of the rooms either face the highway or are at right angles to it and there weren't going to be any quieter rooms available that day.
Lahaina itself was a great place to stay for a few days. You pretty much need a car to get to the beaches but there are great eating places within walking distance of the hotel. On Friday nights, the art galleries in town of which there are many ,have "open house" and you are encouraged to stroll through and see what they have to offer. Several even have free appetizers and wine.
I would stay at this resort again but only if I could be assured of a suite away from the highway.

“Good value, convenient location, beautiful pool”

This place was recently renovated and the pool area is gorgeous. There are many outdated photos online so beware. The pool is black, with an infinity edge, and has a delightful and comfortable covered area nearby with couches and chairs and a high-definition TV (for watching sports!) that look out on the pool. The rooms are lovely and have everything you might need; ours had a full kitchen which was great with the kids. Ask for a room with a mountain view. The price is lower here because it is not on the ocean but you are blocks away from everything in Lahaina, and minutes away by car from great West Maui beaches. The gardens are lovely and well-kept, and the staff were friendly and helpful to us at all times. If you want to save money but don't want to give up comfort, and can bear to be away from the beach, this is a perfect choice. My kids actually preferred to hang out at the Aina Nalu pool rather than the beach !! There is a second pool for children, and the entire place has these little hidden gardens under the walkways filled with fountains and shade-loving plants.

“As good as last time”

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights in between our 2 Oahu visits. Once again we booked a 1 bed 1 bath unit and were upgraded to a 2 bed 2 bath unit. This time we were not facing the pool under construction, but were facing the parking lot toward the main entrance.

This unit was exactly the same as the other one. The only differnces were the Dell Plasma TVs in each bedroom had been replaced with some other brand, and smaller. And the unit was very quiet.

One thing I figured out on our 3rd day was that the sets of louvers that make up the bathroom and bedroom windows, if opened even a little, let in alot of outside noise. And there are 3 seperate sets per window. When we checked in some of the louvers were partially opened at every single window. Closing them makes a huge difference, and close them until they lock.

Other than that we did get coffee service every day this time. But we could not connect to the wireless internet. I tried from the smaller pool also, but could only connect at the new, bigger pool. they have cabled internet connnections in the room, but you have to pay $9.99/day. That felt like a rip off.

The new pool has an infinity edge and is very nice. The pavillion has an empty bar, behind which is the ice maker. A pretty long haul from the front unit we had. In the morning by the small pool they put out coffee and a few newspapers.

The location is still fantastic. We walked to the Pacific Whale Foundation for a whale watch and had a great time. There were no little ants in the bathroom this time, which was great. All in all, it was a great stay.

“Nice and Close to Lahaina Town”

We stayed here for five days with another couple in a two bedroom unit in Feb 2008. The unit was new, clean and of a decent size and had very nice deluxe bathrooms that we all enjoyed. Positives were the close location to Lahania town - great for walking, eating and shopping and the nice grounds. To our disappointment there was no real outdoor space with the unit and our "lanai" consisted of a cement slab with no chairs, but the two pools made for a nice retreat and the cabana's were great for some afternoon shade. The cleaning service was always very late in the day. Our side of the building was quiet - but some of the units were near the highway and noisy. Ask to be "garden side" to avoid trafic noise.
The $20.00 per day for parking seemed steep and a bit of a gouge considering the unit rate.
Overall we chose this area to be away from the hustle and malls of Kihei and it was good in that respect - although you do ultimately drive more staying on this side of the island.
Get off the beaten track in Maui - hike and find some remote beaches, visit Paia and Hanna, and eat some sushi. We also did a fabulous whale and snorkel tour, which although was touristy was well worth it for the wild life viewing. We saw whales, dolphins, sharks, turtles and eels.
