Returned yesterday from a week's stay at Kahana Reef unit 317. We found this unit through the owner's at vrbo.com. It was exactly as promised. A spacious 1-bedroom unit ony 20 something feet from the ocean. This corner unit was great and a very good value.

The unit itself is in excellent shape with many upgrades (granite counters, rock shower, etc.). The kitchen was extremely well-outfitted. We had planned to eat out once a day, but often didn't because we were enjoying the condo so much.

The complex is about 30 years old, but very well maintained. It is very quiet and the pool (nice and sun-warmed) closes a little early (8 pm). The laundry room is inexpensive compared to the local laundromat) but closes early as well (6:30). There are two very nice gas BBQs available for all and we used it a couple of times.

I read reviews so I THOUGHT I knew what to expect, no hairdryers, small parking spaces, no one mentioned the Cock Roach problems. I knew it was an older building, so I expected some things, but we really had an awful time, we were late but check in was no problem, when we got to the unit, the first thing we saw was plastic wrappers and wine corks behind the couch, the carpet looked as if someone left a pet locked inside for days. There was so much dust in the shower vent, it wouldnt vent, the front room curtain was SO filthy it caused an allergic reaction in my daughter, the continious roach spray gave my Mother an Asthma attack, we had to take her Doctors on Call for a nebulizer treatment (she has never had breathing trouble before) $476.00 later she felt better, but stayed far away from the kitchen, we were unable to cook in, the knife set provided was covered in rust as was some of the silverware, the roaches were into all the pots pans plates, we kept the kitchen light on all the time hoping to keep them at bay so we didnt have to use the spray, it was horrible stay, and we couldnt contact anyone, the phone in our room didnt work, and there was never anyone in the office, always remember, you get what you pay for, and this place is CHEAP......The Lanai, aside from the dirty carpeting was wonderful, the view was great, so were the grounds

I had read some 'iffy' reviews of some of the rooms at the Kahana Reef but I must say that room 422 was excellent. I think it is a little smaller than the other rooms as it is by the stairwell but being on the end of the building we had two extra windows along the side of the unit. The condo is totally and very well renovated with ceramic tile floors, granite counter tops and a well equipped kitchen.

The ocean view couldn't be more 'ocean front'. We had a 180 degree view of the ocean and from the lanai you hardly can see any other buildings. We were able to see whales and turtles plus sunsets right from our lanai.

There is no beach right in front of the condo but a smallish beach does start right next door, down some steps. The ocean is OK for swimming there but not as good as at the better beachs.

The area around the Kahana reef is not really special but there is a small mall a couple of blocks away. It is not too pedestrian friendly as there are no sidwalks on the street right by the property.

I felt the value we paid for this unit was excellent, considering the ocean front location. Too bad there is only a queen sized bed.

There is no air conditioning in this building but we didn't even come close to wanting it.

This unit had been remodled and was beautiful. Wonderful kitchen and bathroom both with granite worktops. Fantatic views of whales passing by the condo. Attention to detail great even down to the Ipod docking station (good job we had our ipods). We struggled to prize ourselves from the balcony long mornings drinking coffe and long evenings drinking wine. Complex was spotless, BBQ was great, staff very helpful. Booked through Sullivan Properties. No problem getting sun lounger, pool always quiet, really nice beach 5 mins walk away. We will be back
