“Unit A202!!!!!”

Hale Mahina Beach Resort

We have just returned from our recent stay at Hale Mahina Beach Resort Maui. Having stayed there in several occasions in other units I can honestly say I will never stay in any other unit other then A202 again!!! I booked directly from the owner who recently purchased and completely renovated the unit. It is absolutely paradise you don't even have to go outside! The entire process was so amazing she was so easy to work with. The owner Jackie was so Knowledgeable and helpful. She even went as far as helping me with who to fly with and what to do, who to rent a car from, and most important where to eat! Not to mention the pictures of the unit and the view are not exaggerated! THIS UNIT SCORES A PERFECT 10 IN MY BOOK!

one more thing, she even leaves a gift basket!!!!!!!

LOVED IT! If you are looking for a peaceful place that is beautifully landscaped with a homey feel...HALE MAHINA is the place. My family and I spent the days laying by the pool, eating dinner on our balcony over looking the ocean and fell asleep to the sound of the waves splashing on the private beach below.
The price was affordable and we loved our stay. I can't say enough We will go back and recommend it to everyone!

I am ambivalent about writing this review, because then everyone will find out what a great spot it is and I'll never be able to get in there myself again! First of all, Hale Mahina is located in an excellent area, and is one of the few condo complexes that has a small, sandy beach. The pool sits in the middle of a lawn surrounded by palm trees on the water's edge. Larry the manager does a fantastic job of taking care of the place. The lanai views are amazing for all units. For the first week we stayed in B402, and WOW! What a spectacular place. They have thought of everything, and it was just lovely, it really made for a heavenly stay. The second week we stayed in B302, an older unit that was definitely in need of renovation. The slider door took 2 people to open, the kitchen and bathrooms were old, there was no deadbolt on the door, to name a few issues. Also, in all units the second bedroom by the entry door gets a lot of road noise - I used earplugs. Loft bedrooms in 2 bedroom units also get a lot of ocean noise from the waves, but who can complain about that? However, overall, I have to say that Hale Mahina was great. Many times we were the only ones in the pool, and there were at most maybe a dozen people in lounge chairs on the lawn at any one time, much better than the resort experience of swimming in crowded pools full of kids. When I return to Maui, I wil DEFINITELY stay there. My advice to anyone seeking a unit there is to look carefully at the pictures, make sure that the kitchens and bathrooms are in good shape, as there is a wide range of accomodations there. As for the surrounding area, there was an outdoor fruit market 3 days a week just down the street, and you are 2 minutes from the north end of Kaanapali beach - there is free parking and beach access at Kahekili Beach park, with GREAT snorkeling in just a few feet of water (as good as Black Rock, we thought). Eat at Okazuya Honokowai takeout deli, really great food, with many types of dishes that are generous and tasty. Road north of Kapalua was beautiful, lots of rugged coastline, and wish I would have done more of that road then the road to Hana.

What an absolutely delightful place. Condos and other amenities are maticulously maintained. Most units are very weill appointed and decorated. Location just north of Kaanapali is quieter and less busy and crowded. Close to stores and takeout foods and a very great farmer's market. The beach is smallish, but private and very clean. Whales appeared daily and green sea turtles occassionally in the early morning. Hosts and managers Larry and Lynne were exceptional. We stayed for almost a month and enjoyed every moment. We plan to stay there again on our next trip to the island.

We stayed at the Hale Mahina 3/23-3/29. Individual condo rentals on the property & also permanent residents. Our condo was on the fourth floor (403) and a beautiful ocean view from our lanai. Small private beach with beautiful water clarity, the kids loved it. Nice pool & hot tub. The condo was very nice & clean with many extras, snorkeling gear & boogie boards. This is not a busy resort, very relaxing. As soon as we arrived the kids spotted whales spouting and breaching, brought our own binocs. We sat on our lanai and watched this spectacular event 3 or 4 times a day.

We also did local grocery shopping to help cut costs (food is very expensive). Did lunch at Bubba Gumps, Hula Grill & Cheeseburger in Paradise. We enjoyed the tourist thing immensely.

We did not spend extra money on snorkeling or whale watching tours as we had this available at our own front door. I purchased a copy of Maui Revealed and this was our tour guide. This book was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone who has never been to Maui. Everything is dead on even down to the reviews of restaurants. We rented snorkel gear from Boss Frogs and snorkeled with turtles & trumpet fish. Frogs were kind enough to upgrade our gear for free on 2nd day at the beach.

Overall we loved Maui and all the things to do. Great experience & will return again without the teens.
