“Cockroaches!”

ResortQuest at Papakea Resort

1 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, CA
Apr 17, 2008

One word: cockroaches!!!!

As soon as we checked in and got to the door we found a notice about "regular pest cleaning". The notice said that if guests had a baby they could be exempted from the procedure but then all roaches would move to that condo. We had a toddler, and asked to be exempted since he would put everything he sees in the mouth. The reason we stayed was that we thought if they did this procedure on regular basis then the pest problem could not be that bad. We were wrong! Every time I turned on lights in the bathroom or kitchen I've noticed little "crawlers".

The condo was very old, kitchen was awful and empty. We had to buy everything starting from dishwasher liquid and detergent, and finishing with salt, sugar, oil, e.t.c. Well, all was for nothing, after cockroach encounter I just did not want to cook at that place. We tried to be out as much as possible. The sofa bad we slept on had a plastic wrapper on it, and a fitted sheet on top. We finally took it off on the third day of stay. Changing resorts was not an option since it would be very expensive for us.

One positive thing - a cleaning lady. She was extremely nice and did her job beautifully.

The place next to Papakea - Ka'anapali Shores seemed to be much more neat and upscale, and was selling for the same price at Expedia.

“Great time but will not stay again”

The location is outstanding and the view is perfect. The staff is very rude when they decide you aren't going to buy a timeshare.
A mistake with reception had us having to move out of our room into another for the final night. It wasn't until my husband complained enough that they decided to accomodate us. Things like that happen but not with the horrible attitude.

ResortQuest at Papakea Resort is the largest operator managing units at Papakea, but we are not the only management company with a presence on the property. There are several small managment companies, real estate companies, timeshare operators and a few owners who rent their unit directly on the Internet. To help clarify which reviews might be from ResortQuest Hawaii guests, and which may have booked through other operators, we would like to advise that ResortQuest Hawaii does not sell timeshares, provides daily maid service, and all of our units at Papakea Resort have air conditioning, fully equipped kitchens and washer/dryers. We are happy to see the many positive reviews, and look forward to providing our guests with quality service.

“Loved the Papakea”

Over the past 10 or so years, we have stayed at 4 different properties in Maui, all in the Kahana. So, I feel that I have a basis to compare our stay at the Papakea with other properties in the area. We are a family of 4. Our room E-310 was an Ocean View room. I found the room to be clean and roomy. Our room was a one bedroom with a full kitchen and a stacked washer and dryer. Our children slept in the bedroom so we could fall asleep to the sound of the ocean (on the sofa bed). The sofa bed was pretty uncomfortable... but fortunately we were tired enough at the end of each day to be able to sleep on it! The room was clean. We did have an issue with ants in the kitchen. That was taken care of after we notified the hotel staff.

I learned that Resortquest is one of four management companies for the investment units in Papakea. Resortquest as a whole has certain standards that must be met for the units they manage. Since Resortquest manages the largest percentage of units at Papakea, they run the front desk for all the units at this resort. This may explain some comments by others regarding their experiance at this resort. I don't know this for sure... but perhaps they were staying in a unit that was not being managed by Resortquest.

Though Papakea does not have a kids camp on-site, you can sign your kids up at the Resortquest resort next door. Also, I noticed that there were tennis courts on the property.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Papakea and would definitely stay there again.

“A GREAT First Trip to Hawaii”

ResortQuest at Papakea Resort

5 of 5 stars
Sultan, WA

It was a girls trip to Mau Hawaii. There were 9 of us and we had a two bedroom condo at the Papakea with a loft. Our unit was on the top floor and had a great view of the pool and the ocean. It was spacious and comfortable and had a full kitchen which helped us keep our expenses down (although groceries in Maui are still really expensive). They also had several activities you could participate in including water aerobics, golfing, tennis, etc.

There were plenty of chairs by the pool and on the beach wall to enjoy the sunshine. The beach area in front of the resort was a little rocky so it was difficult to go snorkeling or enjoy the water - you had to walk further down. Even better is to go down to the beach area by the Sheraton on the other side of the black rock. It is completely sandy and a GREAT area for snorkeling. We saw 3 turtles the day we went.

The only complaint I have is that the parking can be a little tough -very tight spaces and when they say quiet after 10pm, they mean it. We got called from security 3 times while we were there because we were laughing and talking and they could hear us when they were doing their walk around and asked us to be quiet (this was at 10:15pm). Also, the loft area which slept 5 of us was EXTREMELY warm (heat rises) and there was really no way to cool it down. Other than that, we all had a great time and I would return.

“Love Papakea A 202”

ResortQuest at Papakea Resort

This is the second year we've stayed at Papakea in A 202. It's the fifth time we've stayed at Papakea overall. It's a great place for us! It has beautiful mature grounds with some of the biggest koi we've ever seen. We prefer a quieter property with the ammenities that are most important to us. That includes a nice pool area, grounds and of course great BBQ areas. We chose A 202 the first time because we wanted an oceanfront unit to watch whales from. That was in February of '07. We were so pleased with everything we found that we booked it a year in advance to make sure we could come back! This unit is located away from most of the "outside" hallway traffic. It has a beautiful view and the owner clearly works hard to make sure everything is clean and in order. We had a small problem when we first checked in this time and called the owner to ask for help. She called back 43 minutes later and APOLOGIZED for taking so long to call me back. That's CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! The problem was solved immediately, well beyond our expectations! We're so pleased with everything that we've already booked for February of 09.
