“Good alternative to mega-high-rise bustle & cost”

Outrigger Napili Shores

Located about a 20-minute drive northwest of the town of Lahaina, Napili Shores is an excellent choice if you prefer something a little more laid-back than the fancy bustling high-rise resorts that are proliferating north of Lahaina. The Shores is an older condo development, very well kept up, that offers the most significant amenities without layers of extras, and at a more reasonable cost. We observed that it attracts a horde of repeat guests and that many of the condo owners themselves spend a good part of the year in residence.

The units are a mix of one-bedroom and studios with balconies, arranged in two-story buildings that mostly face an immaculately maintained central courtyard (see picture). The buildings closest to the ocean are canted to provide ocean views. The courtyard has two pools and a Jacuzzi, plus a fish pond and very attractive landscaping. At the seaside end of the courtyard the beachfront is rocky, but a short connecting path leads to a nice sandy beach immediately adjacent.

There is an ocean-front gazebo restaurant that serves breakfast & lunch (with a line forming each morning for 7:00AM breakfast!) and a full restaurant-bar at the street end that is open for lunch & dinner (see pictures). Food was quite good and prices reasonable by Hawaii standards. Other amenities include an on-site Expedia agent for booking activities and inexpensive ($1 per boarding) public bus service down to “high-rise row” and Lahaina town. There is a coin laundry and a small ‘necessities shop’. All rooms have phones with free local calling and modem jack, but only some units have broadband internet (apparently an option provided by some unit owners).

Our two-week stay was very enjoyable, with only one sour note, a noise problem that causes us to downgrade the overall rating one notch. The units are not air-conditioned and must be kept open on both ends for the pleasant Hawaii breezes. Unfortunately, the rectangular box construction amplifies external noise, most annoyingly the nighttime parking lot comings & goings. Restaurant/bar patrons and condo guests subjected us to a chorus of chatter, banging car doors and beeping alarm-set horns that seemed to be right in the bedroom with us. Recommendation: Get a unit near the beach end and well away from the street-side restaurant area.

“Great Place & Great Staff”

We stayed at the Napili Shores for a totally of 12 night. I booked one of the rooms on VRBO & the other's through outrigger. While we were here we moved into three rooms & every rooms was wonderful. The staff was wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. They did everything they could to get make our stay pleasent. I was traveling with an infant & a toddler I don't think I could have found a better place to stay. I highly recommend this place if you have children. The pools are a bit cold but on the kiddo's never seemed to mind it. I was also impressed on how well they kept the ground, they cleaned the BBQ's every day. For surfers, if the swell is right there is a beautifull left right in front!

“Great condo...not for lovers of large hotel amenities”

Stayed here Oct 14-18, 2007 for a wedding at nearby Kapalua Bay. Stayed in building B on the second floor in room 212. We had a great view of the ocean although not right on the water. This complex has different style rooms and we chose the one bedroom style which keeps the sleeping quarters separate from the rest of the condo. There are also studio style rooms which cost less and you can select what building you want to be in based on the property layout which is located on their website. Great for families since you have a full kitchen and fridge/stove/microwave and eating in Maui can be pricey. Go to the island orientation that the property offers. Eden is great giving suggestions for various helicopter tours etc. You need a car on the island but some of the tours pick you up right at the hotel. I would recommend the sunset dinner cruise and hike of the rain forest. The hike includes a pickup right in the hotel lobby. The only downside is that our bedroom was next to the parking lot and you can hear ppl coming and going and hear landscapers cutting trees.

“Best place to stay on Maui”

We have stayed at Napili Shores 3 out of the last 4 years for our family vacation. Absolutely fabulous. We have children 10 and 4 now and I cant imagine a better place for them. 2006 we tried the Westin...what a mistake! Not only did the trip cost 3 times as much (mostly because they dont have a kitchen),but try 10 days and nights in a tiny room with 2 kids...no good. Stop at Costco after you get out of the airport, load up with stuff, and have a blast at the best beach on maui...not to mention one of the least crowded!

“Lovely Condo Resort”

Outrigger Napili Shores

When we read on Trip Advisor that there was no air conditioning we hit the panic button, however, no mechanical device could ever replace, and no words could ever describe, the incredible tradewinds that cooled our beautiful condo.

Upon arrival we learned that we were upgraded to a one bedroom from a studio. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and the lovely grounds. Would definitely return to Maui and this condo for a longer stay in the future.

The Napili Shores is home to one of the best breakfast and lunch spots on Maui, The Gazebo. People start lining up at 7 am for the 7:30 opening. You can grab a poolside chair and sit down while you wait. It is a great meal with a great view and well worth waiting for.

My only criticism is of the beach arrangements. It is shared with the hotel next door. There are no seating arrangements so unless you have your own beach chairs there is no real lounging except for the towels you have brought. However, the hotel has 2 nice sized lovely, clean swimming pools with a view of the ocean.

Very, very nice for its price range. A true 3 star in the best sense.
