“Great Hotel ... Bad Tour experience”

The Donatello

The Hotel was Great, just don't book your tours through the concierge. We booked one that included Muir Woods and the Wine country. The concierge or hotel uses a tour company called Extranomical Adventusan Fransico. They sent an 8 passenger van and put 15 people in it. It was so bad, we had to get off and not take the tour. The tour company said no refunds because you have to cancel 72 hours in advance.

Super hotel. Biggest beds and great sized rooms. Really convenient - just a block from Union Square and bars/eateries.

“Great Location. Great Price.”

Check the hotel website for their Sunday night special. (The closer to the weekend, the lower the price gets as long as they have rooms.) We had a King Suite: King bed (very comfortable), sitting area (couch, chair), entertainment center and wet bar (sink, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, real cups and glasses, silverware...) Noise was NOT a problem on Sunday night. Very pleasant and helpful staff.
Great location; Easy walking distance to Union Square, Curran Theatre, trolley & more - try Max's restaurant a short block away - more reasonable than the hotel's restaurant and great food (breakfast, lunch and dinner.)

The ONLY negative is the decor - I'm talking UGLY! But clean and good quality - so turn out the lights and you have a 3+ star boutique hotel at 1-2 star prices!

Beware the "stay & park" deal - we paid $5 more for parking on the package deal than if we had just gone to the hotel and paid the $28 per day parking. (Might want to call the hotel before booking and compare the package to the regular parking at the time.)

Enjoy

“dont take a room over looking Post or Mason”

The Donatello

May 8, 2008

Great Hotel, as previous reviews staff are wonderful and very helpfull, breakfast also had orange juice, bagles (which you could toast) along with pastries, coffee and several types of tea. The biggest down fall the noise from Ruby Skye across the street started @ 11 pm until 2 am finally dozed off and then what I thought was the garbage truck @ 4am woke me up to smashing glass. After laying there for about 15 minutes I got up to take a look to see what the heck was going on but it was not the garbage truck making the noise it was people going through the garbage looking for cans and glass, yes garbage pickers going through the garbage looking for glass and cans and then throwing them into the back of the pick up truck. This went on until just after 5 am and it was loud and we where on the 7th floor corner room, got up to make sure all the windows where closed it was that loud.
If the hotel could find a way to sound proof the windows this would resolve the noise issue. Second night (Saturday I slept with the pillow over by head which helped) so if you are a light sleeper like me do not take a room over looking this street ask to be moved right a way.
This is the only issue we had, we didnt change rooms as we where only there for 3 nights in total, but now that we know this side of the hotel is loud, we will make sure not to take a room on this side of the street!
Great location to everything will be posting a travel tip in the near future

“Wonderful amenities”

The Donatello

May 5, 2008

The Donatello is great! The location is perfect, just enough off the beaten path to feel relaxed once you walk away from Market Street crowds. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. I love the little kitchenette and the empty fridge. It even had a microwave and toaster in the room, plus plates and glasses. There was a DVD player that was easy to use. The windows had shutters and could be opened. The thermostat worked. I loved the color scheme with the orange wall. The bed and pillows were comfortable. I thought it was an incredible value worth far more than I paid.
