“Bristol - affordable luxury!”

Bristol Hotel

We went to the Bristol for a ladies' weekend in San Diego. The Bristol is centrally located in dowtown. We walked or took the Trolley everywhere. The rooms were nicely appointed. Our shower was not working well, and was repaired immediately. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Free internet access in the lobby was a plus. Main drawbacks were the steep on-site parking fee ($22/night) and limited on-site amenities (pool, hosted lounge, small gym). We stayed on the back side of the hotel, so there wasn't any view but noise was kept to a minimum.

“did not honor our prepaid reservations and did nothing to reserach the problem”

I booked Bristol through hotels.com, prepaid and received booking confirmation. On the day of arrival I called to tell that i would be arriving late and was told that they don’t see my reservation. I asked whether any rooms at all were available but front desk Amanda did not want to check before we arrive there - ignoring the fact that we need to drive 2 hours to get there. Three calls and 10 minutes of holding later, she agreed to check availability and informed me that after all guests check in (it was around 12 am by then) there would be no rooms available. After a lot of effort, we were able to get in touch with hotels.com support (in India) and after a hard copy reservation was faxed over to Bristol hotel, they agreed to accommodate us. After all, the rooms were in fact available. I left a message for the manager but he/she never got back to me. Hotel not honoring your prepaid reservation and making no effort to research it I consider to be a a major flaw.

I apologize for the treatment by the staff. THis should have never have happened. They have been retrained to indeed look up any reservation not in their computer system as well as check daily arrivals by all internet sites to ensure that no one has to go through the above situation. If there is anything that I can personally do, please don't hesitate to contact me.

“Bristol is a boutique gem”

The Bristol is a boutique gem! The hotel exceeded our expectations. We stayed there the first week in April. The room was spacious and the bathroom well supplied. Even though there was a Greyhound Bus terminal across the street we were not bothered by noise. From our room on the 8th floor we caught a glimpse of the ocean and a lot of the skyline. The staff was both gracious and efficient, responding promptly to our request for help with the air conditioner. Daisies was a bit pricey for breakfast but the location lends itself to lots of options for restaurants within walking distance. We walked to Horton Plaza, Seaport Village and the ferry to Coronado. The bus to Balboa park was just one street over. Hope to return. 2 travelers from near Boston

“Great Location, Great Price”

We just returned from San Diego where we attended a national conference, and for our needs The Bristol Hotel was a great place to stay. It was just a short trolley ride to the convention center and just a few blocks of walking to get most anywhere in the Gaslamp District. In comparison to many of the other lodging options in the immediate area, it was by far the best deal for the price.

Overall, the rooms were nice and clean. The beds were comfortable, the spacious room was decorated with a modern flair, and the in room wireless was a nice amenity. The only complaint that I had was the bottom of the tub was peeling and the closet door and bathroom ceiling were unpainted.

I won't lie, the noise level is rather high, especially when you're trying to sleep in. However, it is in the heart of the business district and next door to a trolley stop and bus terminal.

I guess the real question is - would I stay there again? And the answer is for the price, the location, the amenities, and the overalll presentation of the hotel - definitely yes. I would also recommend it to my friends and family.

Thank you for the great recommendations about our hotel. You are correct about the bathtubs and as of today half of the hotel bathrooms have had the tubs reglazed. The remainder will be finished shortly as they are not up to our standards. Thanks again.

What a pretty hotel. We loved the rooms and the lobby was really classy. The resturant food was top notch and the bartender was so friendly and had a great laugh. Overall we had a very nice stay.
