“Nice stay in Atlanta”

Renaissance Atlanta Hotel Downtown

4 of 5 stars
New Jersey

I stayed at the Renaissance Atlanta from September 20-28. The hotel is nice, the lobby was very clean and all of the workers were very helpful. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. The carpeting did not have any stains that I saw. Internet is $12.95 a day. The first 3 nights I stayed on the side facing Georgia Tech, the remainder of the week I stayed on the opposite side of the hotel looking back toward the Downtown area. I would recommend requesting a room on the Georgia Tech side. The downtown side has a hospital right across the street, and it can get extremely noisy. I heard sirens, loud horns, and even helicopters!

The pool area was ok, very clean and plenty of towels. The breakfast buffet is very good they have an omelet station and all different kinds of breakfast items. There is a German bar in the back of the hotel and it is a great place to catch a game. There is a Starbucks in the front lobby if you need to grab something quick. If you wanted to walk somewhere for some good pub food, try the Spotted Dog. Its located on North Avenue, to get there make a left out of the hotel and make your first right on North Ave. There is also a diner located on Peachtree St. Ne, it’s called The Broadway Diner and is a cheaper option for breakfast.

Aside from the hotel, we visited the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coke. I would recommend visiting the Georgia Aquarium first as it takes more time than World of Coke. They sell combined tickets at the Aquarium entrance and I believe they were $35.00.
Also try and visit Stone Mountain Georgia. The views are tremendous. Finally, the Mario Andretti Go Cart track is a lot of fun, its fairly expensive, but a good way to spend the day. You will probably need a rental car to get to Stone Mountain and Andretti Cart Racing.

“Good, Reliable Choice”

Renaissance Atlanta Hotel Downtown

4 of 5 stars
Montgomery, Alabama
Sep 12, 2007

A friend and I chose the Renaissance Atlanta simply because it was close to the Marta station we wanted for seeing a concert on a Saturday night. We couldn't have been happier. The room was clean and nice; the beds and pillows were FABULOUS! The staff were all very friendly. Overall, this hotel is a good bargain for an edge-of-midtown stay.

“Great Weekend Escape”

Renaissance Atlanta Hotel Downtown

3 of 5 stars
Norcross, Georgia
Sep 3, 2007

For our anniversary, my husband and I went to the Renaissance Atlanta downtown for the weekend. We upgraded to the pool suite. At $249.00 a night, it was well worth it. We loved having our own private little pool and patio that we didn't have to share with anyone else. Of course, the pool was too small to actually swim real laps in, but hey, it was our anniversary - we were not there to swim laps.

The room -The bed was very soft, and I can't remember ever sleeping so soundly. There was also a lovely living area, but it was not separated from the bed by a wall or anything. The bathroom was a bathroom - maybe a little small but functional (nothing to get excited about).

For meals - we ordered room service the entire weekend, and the food was great and priced decently. For some reason though, the room service staff didn't always bring us two sets of silverware. Still, we made due.

I did have three minor issues with the room though. One - this was a suite, but there was only one tiny trashcan (under the bathroom sink) in the entire room. Secondly, there was a huge dress/cabinet thing which held only a tiny televsion - this was so shocking to me because my youngest daughter has a bigger television in her bedroom (pic attached of hotel television). Lastly, the air conditioner was not as quiet as it should have been.

Despite those small things (the television really wasn't on our list of to-do items), this hotel was great for a weekend getaway (definitely one of the most romantic rooms I've ever stayed in). We will definitely return.

“Annoying customer service stumbles”

Renaissance Atlanta Hotel Downtown

3 of 5 stars
Helena, Alabama
Aug 17, 2007

The property itself appears very nice. The lobby of the hotel is large and open with many contemporary chairs, sofas and grouped seating areas. The bar and gift shop are located right off the main lobby. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a great open air balcony overlooking Atlanta accessed through a sliding glass door (parents of small children take note). The Lather bath products are great and a definite plus in the opinion of my wife. While not personally handicapped, my assigned handicapped-accessible room seemed to flow well and had wide passages between walls and furniture to allow wheelchair passage. The bathroom was huge. The work area had three available 110VAC outlets located within 2 feet of the desk which is better than many other hotels. Wireless access appeared to be $12/day which is a pet peeve of mine when Hampton Inn provides wireless for free. Elevators were quick and responsive (no long waits for service). The surrounding area is typical of Downtown/Midtown Atlanta with numerous other businesses (including Emory Crawford Hospital), relatively few residences (though more are under construction) and unfortunately more than a few homeless and panhandlers on surrounding streets. Atlanta dining landmark The Varsity (a must do!) is on the opposite corner of the block the hotel sits upon. I would not walk by myself out of sight of the hotel doormen at night though as a small group we didn’t experience any problems at 11:00 p.m. Georgia Tech is three blocks away just across I-75/85 and is an easy walk (again, groups are safer). I did hear numerous police and ambulance sirens but it didn’t prevent me from sleeping and didn’t seem much worse than other downtown Atlanta hotels in which I’ve stayed. The downside of this hotel was the service. Our group of 25 was given our welcome packets and key card envelopes complete with room numbers at the front desk, and then found that none of the key card envelopes actually had key cards inside. After 15 minutes we finally received our key cards. Upon entering my room I was surprised to find the end table sitting in the middle of the room, the phone jack faceplate removed, wires laying on the floor, and phone service testing equipment lying on the floor. Upon calling the front desk (the phone worked fine) they said they would send someone up right away to remove the test equipment which I agreed to after first offering to change rooms. In less than 5 minutes a very polite and apologetic technician arrived. I expected him to take the tools and leave because I was tired and wanted to take a brief nap before showering and dressing for dinner. The tech then proceeded to spend 30 minutes working on the phones while I carried on doing everything but take a nap, shower and dress like I wanted. I did not ask him to leave earlier becuase I thought he would be done in short order. Finally he determined he could not fix the problem, informed me one of the phones (there were three in the room) and the high-speed internet access were not working, and left. The tech was certainly helpful and tried to be as fast and unobtrusive as possible, but there is no reason why the hotel should have checked me into a room that was undergoing maintenance before I arrived! Later when I asked the front desk to hold an envelope for me until I returned later that evening the front desk clerk complied but didn’t go out of his way to appear welcoming or helpful; check-out the next day the front desk clerk was much more helpful and polite. Overall I give the physical property high marks, but as others have noted, the service is not at the level I expect from such a hotel. Despite the service glitches, I would stay at this property again.
