“Neutral - ok but you can find a better place”

Villa Montana Beach Resort

Mar 22, 2008

The good:
The property is beautiful with lovely gardens. There are two pools, two tennis courts, a climbing wall and a playground for young kids. There are two restaurants on the property. The people who work there are very friendly. The apartments are comfortable and it is lovely to sit outside on your veranda to enjoy the birds chirping.

The not so good:

There are two areas on the beach through which you can enter the water. Otherwise, there is too much coral to make it safe to enter. The water is nice but choppy. The beach is hard to run on even though it is 3 miles long as the brochure tells you. Other than housekeeping, there are really no services in this hotel. They say they have tennis raquets, bicycles and kayaks that you can use but they are so limited in numbers that you really don't get to use them. It would be better if they rented them out to you so that they would have them available. Many of the units are owned and used by locals who bring everything with them and it seems like the hotel feels that there is no need to provide the typical amenities that tourists require.

The distances on this part of the island are very big so you are kind of stuck here unless you want to drive 1 hour plus to go to another town or beach or rain forest. There are no restaurants outside of the hotel to speak of and the local supermarket is kust so so. We went to Rincon which is about 1 hour from this hotel. There is more to do there and it is closer to the southern coast where the waters are calmer and there is a lot more to do so that might be a better bet.

Thank you for your kind words about our staff, gardens and accommodations. We work hard to make our resort relaxing yet with enough to do for those who want some activity. We have taken your comments to heart about the lack of equipment. We normally have enough to go around but we will add some equipment to ensure that even on busy weekends we have a sufficient amount. We also will institute a program to keep better tabs on what is signed out, as sometimes guests do not return the equipment when they are finished with it and we have to go track it down!

Rincon is a lovely town, and yes there is more to do. We are a very deserted resort and there are many of our guests who return time and time again just for that reason. We do have 19 activities right from your doorstep, two restaurants and extremely beautiful grounds and gardens. For those looking for night life and action, our resort is probably not the best choice, although sometimes our guests do get out and drive around but always seem pleased to return to our relaxing and calm environment.

I am not sure what you mean about calmer waters since Rincon is known for great waves for surfing. Perhaps you visited us on a day when the weather was affecting the waves and ours were stronger than normal.

Please come back and visit us again.
Sincerely,
Jessica Tiphane

“The best day of my life!”

Villa Montana Beach Resort

5 of 5 stars
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Mar 13, 2008

We had our wedding at Villa Montaña. I had found the place searching on the net and decided to go and check it out. I was thinking of having a simple wedding with not more that 20 guests but I wanted a beach front ceremony. As soon as I got to Villa Montaña I fell in love with the place. Melany helped me and showed me around and on that same visit I decided that I couldn't have my wedding anywhere else. My wedding ended up being a full ceremony, cocktail and reception activity with 60 people. Both Melany and Angelica where on top of the details and when I wasn't sure about something they were available through phone but better through emails which I prefer anyway. My attitude towards the whole deal was to give them enough info on what I wanted but trusting their judgment since they do weddings all the time. In the end it paid off.
The day of the wedding, Mildred (who was coordinating the activity and whom I met the day before-she is an incredible soul and super dedicated) showed me what a real professional is. She was on top of it all. She gave me better ideas for the setup, and remembered how I had said I preferred a kind of wine and the day of the wedding brought me to my room fruit, cheese and a bottle of shiraz. She checked up on me and made sure I was ok. The ceremony, the decoration, the amazing food, the beautiful cake, the great waiters and bar tenders, the beautiful place all collaborated so that we had the best day of our lives. Mildred was on top of everything but never pushed or was in our way. We had a photo station, a band, pleneros and carried on until late and we never felt rushed and I never had to worry about anything other that enjoying our day with our guest. They all went far and beyond. If people are concerned about other comments I simply say that wasn't my experience. But I have some advice. Relax, this is an island, enjoy everything, the idea is to have a great time, vacation or wedding and not rush through it all. If something is not to your liking, take a deep breath, smile and ask politely. Like in any other part of the world hotels are busy places with people working hard. Ask nicely, I assure you this will help immensely.

“a wonderful wedding!”

Villa Montana Beach Resort

4 of 5 stars
California
Mar 12, 2008

My daughter was married March 2008 at Villa Montana
and both she and I couldn't have hoped for a better
wedding. The staff had worked to provide the setting
that she wanted (she and her fiance had traveled there
the previous April) and so there is always the uncertainty
of what the flowers, cake, bouquets , tables will look like.
Let's face it with destination weddings you are putting alot
of faith into the hotel's final choices. But, happiness prevailed and the bride was relaxed. You get to know everyone for a few days before the main event. From Grandmas to college kids, fun is had by all.
There were times when we waited a long time for food, or
the tv in a villa needed fixing but who cares? Really, It's
Puerto Rico where the pace is slower and overall the ceremony is why we are there and the hard working wedding staff does a supreme job. Mildred is the bomb!
Thank you Villa Montana for giving us memories we will
never forget.

“Amazing room, but two weddings left them understaffed”

Villa Montana Beach Resort

Mar 4, 2008

We stayed just one night here, but two days on our way to other Puerto Rico destinations. Glad we stayed just one night, as the beach was very rocky, surf rough and beach not so pretty. I realize I just don't like the Atlantic for a vacation, not the hotel's fault. We booked a one bedroom suite instead of a room. WOW! We walked into a huge one bedroom apt. with a living room/dining room combination the size of my apt in NYC with a matching terrace outfitted with a gas grill and nice outdoor furniture. A full kitchen with laundry room were also there with a hotel-room sized bedroom (queen bed) and regular, combo bathtub/shower. Very nice room furnished beautifully. I felt like I'd borrowed a friend's apt. Unfortunately, the hotel had two weddings there that weekend so the restaurant was closed for dinner the night we were there. Also, glad we arrived in the daytime because the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, but only about 15 minutes from the Aguadilla airport. The town is a surfer village meant for younger folks than us - more bar scene than culinary delights. But just fine for an overnight and we were on our way to Rincon and Ponce. Very nice staff and ultra clean. Two tiny pools and tennis courts we didn't use. Right next door to a riding stables with a horse ring on the hotel's property. Decent fitness room for a hotel this small. They were definitely understaffed this weekend with all the emphasis on pleasing the wedding parties. This place is not for people with disabilities as room was two flights up and elevator broken. Seems like a condo community for PR residents of other parts of the island that use it as a weekend place and occassionally rent it out. Would be good for quiet getaway if I planned a relaxation or romantic stay. We were a family with an active teen, so it wasn't the place for us to stay more than a night or two.

Thank you for your comments to help us do better. We do want you to know that we have started a program with a take out menu from the Eclipse Restaurant if we have a restaurant that is closed for a wedding. Our guests will be informed about this at check in and given the take out menu. This will take care of any food and beverage needs all our guests may have.

We certainly will look at ensuring that we are overstaffed on weekends when we have weddings in the hotel so that all our guests feel welcome and well cared for.

Sometimes all beaches have rough spots depending on the weather patterns coming in. You must have been with us during one of these times. At any given time you will mostly find that our beach is pristine and has just enough wave action for some light body surfing and interesting snorkeling, and nearby there are areas for world class surfing.

Sincerely,
Jessica Tiphane

“Not Worth the Money!”

Villa Montana Beach Resort

Mar 2, 2008

Our family with two teenage boys stayed one night at Villa Montana over Christmas vacation 2007. The Villa Montana is incredibly expensive, and was very disappointing in many ways. The stand-alone villa we were given turned out to be owned by someone. We learned this when we walked in are found someone had left the closets open with prescription medications and other personal affects. When I called the front desk they said just to leave them alone and that the owner was supposed to lock the closet. The Villa Montana website said there was "beach fishing", and when I asked at the front desk they looked at me with a blank stare. In general, the attitude at the front desk was rude and unhelpful - especially shocking given the prices. The restaurant service was very slow. There was a party outside on the grounds and they would not lower the music at 11 pm. At the fitness center the treadmill, bicycyle, and stairmaster were all broken. When I reported these at the front desk they were not apologetic. The bedspread on the bed was old and worn looking. My advice - drive further and go to the Copamarina Resort in the South - Fabulous.

We sincerely apologize for the experience you had when you checked into your guest room. Yes, most of our villas are privately owned, which is the way many hotels and resorts are moving these days. I am shocked that our staff reacted that way, and have spoken with the front desk manager about the situation you described. We were told that some of our equipment at the fitness center was broken and it was fixed immediately. We do apologize for this.

Yes, Copamarina is a lovely resort, but we enjoy quite a bit of repeat business and our guests normally are very pleased with the service levels and accommodations of our resort. Our resort is probably the most secluded, intimate and relaxing resort on the island. Please come back again and experience our resort again and you will see why over 70% of our business is from happy, repeat guests.

Sincerely,
Jessica Tiphane
