We stayed at the Ekolu Jan. 23-29th. We booked for a garden view room with rental car included for $230 a night through Great Hawaii Vacations who went through Destination Vacations. Upon checking in to unit #804 we were upgraded to an ocean view room. Upon checking in I was amazed by the views we had. We had a balcony off the living room and one off the bedroom. Both with awsome views. The condo was a very large 1 bedroom/2 bathroom.
The pros:
As mentioned before the views were excellent.
Immaculate landscaping. It was a treat to walk around the property and look at all the orchids, beauganvillia( sp?), and palm trees. A majority of the condos are positioned away from busy roads and in a very peaceful area. The kitchen was updated. Living room furniture was comfortable which had minimal wear. The bed was incredible! This was a big worry for me initially because I have stayed in condos with abysmal beds. This was a high quality, firm mattress. The swimming pool in front of the condo was very clean, landscaped and never crowded. The washer and dryer looked like a newer Maytag Neptune Series. I never heard any children running around the place.
The cons:
The leuvered wodden shudders did not do much in the way of blocking out some noise. I could clearly hear peoples conversations as they walked by, and there was some construction noise. It was minimal, but I think if there was an actual glass pane it would have blocked much more of the occasional noise. Fortunately, this place was away from a road, otherwise the noise would have been a real nuisance. It was about 1/2 a mile from the beach. It is walkable, but one has a uphill walk the entire way back. The beaches we snorkeled at were a 5 minute drive away so it was not a big deal. The bathrooms had a borwnish/ yellowish tile from the 70's along with the mocha colored toilets. I really could have cared less about the outdated bathrooms, but to some people it may be an issue. The water pressure was pretty lame, but never had problems with hot water running out.
I would absolutely stay here again. Some friends of ours stayed up in Ka' anapali in a huge chain hotel. Despite having all kinds of activities and pools with waterfalls, they still ended up going back to a small room with a bed. I think I had the far better deal to not only be in Wailea, but to have so much space and beautiful surroundings. I especially loved the peaceful morning coffee and breakfast on our amazing balconies.
