We stayed at the Ekolu Jan. 23-29th. We booked for a garden view room with rental car included for $230 a night through Great Hawaii Vacations who went through Destination Vacations. Upon checking in to unit #804 we were upgraded to an ocean view room. Upon checking in I was amazed by the views we had. We had a balcony off the living room and one off the bedroom. Both with awsome views. The condo was a very large 1 bedroom/2 bathroom.

The pros:

As mentioned before the views were excellent.
Immaculate landscaping. It was a treat to walk around the property and look at all the orchids, beauganvillia( sp?), and palm trees. A majority of the condos are positioned away from busy roads and in a very peaceful area. The kitchen was updated. Living room furniture was comfortable which had minimal wear. The bed was incredible! This was a big worry for me initially because I have stayed in condos with abysmal beds. This was a high quality, firm mattress. The swimming pool in front of the condo was very clean, landscaped and never crowded. The washer and dryer looked like a newer Maytag Neptune Series. I never heard any children running around the place.

The cons:

The leuvered wodden shudders did not do much in the way of blocking out some noise. I could clearly hear peoples conversations as they walked by, and there was some construction noise. It was minimal, but I think if there was an actual glass pane it would have blocked much more of the occasional noise. Fortunately, this place was away from a road, otherwise the noise would have been a real nuisance. It was about 1/2 a mile from the beach. It is walkable, but one has a uphill walk the entire way back. The beaches we snorkeled at were a 5 minute drive away so it was not a big deal. The bathrooms had a borwnish/ yellowish tile from the 70's along with the mocha colored toilets. I really could have cared less about the outdated bathrooms, but to some people it may be an issue. The water pressure was pretty lame, but never had problems with hot water running out.

I would absolutely stay here again. Some friends of ours stayed up in Ka' anapali in a huge chain hotel. Despite having all kinds of activities and pools with waterfalls, they still ended up going back to a small room with a bed. I think I had the far better deal to not only be in Wailea, but to have so much space and beautiful surroundings. I especially loved the peaceful morning coffee and breakfast on our amazing balconies.

I second the poster who recommended not staying near the north side of Ekolu. Construction trucks are loud and noisy, using jake brakes up and down the hillside for hours every day. Definitely not a quiet, peaceful location. Plus our unit was outdated, very hot in afternoon and minimally furnished. If you want to stay in Wailea, look first for something in Ekahi that is away from the roads & you'll be happier.

“An Oasis of Calm and Quiet”

Wailea Ekolu Village - Destination Resorts

We have stayed at the Ekolu twice, renting through private owners rather than paying the high rates of Destination Resorts, and love it. The condos are larger and more attractive than comparably-priced beachfront condos, and it is a much more tranquil location. One of the reasons could be viewed as a plus or a minus: this is not a place for kids and few of them are in evidence. The pools, down to 8 feet at the deep end, are wonderful, great for actual swimming, and usually unoccupied. It's a short, though downhill/uphill, walk to the Wailea Shops and the beach and beachwalk, but we often drive to beaches outside Wailea as well. A great and reasonably priced choice in beautiful Wailea

“Great unit”

My husband and I stayed in the Wailea Ekolu Village from March 9-19. We rented direct through the owners, the Blattners, instead of going through Destination Resorts. For $200/night, this is a great deal!

This unit is a lower level unit with one bedroom, two full bathrooms, and a killer ocean view. I drank my coffee every morning on the lanai, watching the boats sail out to Molokini. You can see Lanai, Molokini, and the unihabited island from the lanai. The pictures on the Blattners' website is really how the view is. The unit has a living area with a pull-out bed and a fully stocked kitchen. The bedroom has a king-sized bed that is very comfortable, and it has its own TV. The bathroom is well-stocked with more than enough plush white towels, beach towels, and robes. There is a lanai off the bedroom and a brand-new washer and dryer in a closet in the bathroom. The living room has a couch, chair, and awesome TV/VCR/DVD. There is a large lanai off the living room that has a table and chairs and grill. The kitchen was recently remodeled and is tastefully appointed. There are wall AC units in the living room and in the bedroom--they really do work and keep the unit cool, even when the sun is shining directly on the unit. We were right above the pool, but we never heard any noise from it.

We had a horrible experience at Kai's Bed and Breakfast in Kihei last year, so we had really picky, high expectations for our condo this year. It exceeded our expectations. If we ever go back to Maui, we will for sure stay here again. I'm sure the other reviewers who have not liked this place were renting through Destination Resorts. As I understand, their standards aren't as high as the Blattners'. If you go to mauiowners.com, you can find a list of condos that are rented directly from the owners.

My husband and I just stayed at the Ekolu Village condo (#904) which I found on VRBO. Very nice, quiet, comfortable condo with an oceanfront view for $180.00 per night. Right behind the Grand Wailea Resort. This condo was quiet because it is not that close to the main road. Short walk to the Wailea shops. We ended up driving to Wailea beach, a little too far to walk.
