We had one of our best hotel experiences here at the Four Seasons Wailea. We were on the club floor, which is in the south tower on the eighth (top) floor, in an ocean view prime room. We had views of the courtyard gardens, pool and ocean. It was the priciest room available at $1200.00 a night but we decided to splurge on this trip. The last time we were here, we simply purchased a garden view room and still had a good time. This hotel makes sure you feel comfortable no matter where you are.
Because of an earlier visit to FS, we were aware that even our room category was set back a way from the beach. But we still saw the beach not just the ocean from our room and heard the waves crashing when we opened the lanai doors. But we were never disturbed by sounds out at the pool or even in neighboring rooms. In fact, our room seemed sound proof. Either that or the guests are extremely quiet. No kids running down the halls or people partying and not knowing when to keep it down. Just peace. And we really needed it.
When we first arrived at the hotel, our room smelled really musty. Our neighbors next door complained of the same thing. We talked to the manager on duty and they arranged for us to stay in a lesser category room for the night while engineering cleaned off the mildew on the air vent and replaced the air filter. What a difference that made! The manager arranged for our dinner to be paid for that night to make up for our "trouble". The rest of our trip was without inconvenience.
All of the rooms here are unbelieveably comfortable. They have different color schemes in either green, gold, blue or coral. The beds are pillow topped, the plasma t.v.'s have beautiful, clear pictures and the bathrooms are pure endulgence. There is a bench and a whole side of the bathroom where ladies, you can sit and leisurely primp. The sinks are so far apart, you'll never bump in to whoever you're sharing the room with. And the lanais are really large and well set up for two people to comfortably lounge or eat.
The lounge level is what made this trip extraordinary for us. Not only will the concierge on duty make dinner and excursion reservations for you, they will do just about anything you ask of them, from summoning housekeeping, engineering, or a manager to your room to fixing you any drink you want (as long as it isn't blended) to drink there or to take to the pool or just your room. They provided unparalleled service and treated you like you were one of their best friends in the world. I've never experienced service like this. They serve a lovely breakfast which they call continental but includes a specialty item everyday, such as eggs benedict, pork hash, french toast and blueberry crumble, to name a few. They also serve hard boiled eggs in addition to the wonderful pastries, breads, bagels, fresh fruits, cereals and hot coffee and tea. In the afternoon, from 2:00 'til 5:00 p.m., they serve "tea". This includes delicious sandwiches, scones, desserts and of course, the tea of your choice. Then there are hors d'oeurves serve from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., with items served such as short ribs, shrimp, crab, various appetizers such as bruschetta, hummus dip and flat bread, unique salads and always fresh veggies with ranch dressing on the side. Then at night, delicious desserts plus a sorbet or ice cream and again, whatever cocktail you may fancy. We almost never needed to eat or drink any where else on or off the property, with the exception of dinner. And even there, we paid for no wine, dessert or coffee. It was wonderful!
The lobby has beautiful views and relaxing entertainment at night. It is always fun to sit there and enjoy a free show with a pupu or a drink.
The spa treatments were so relaxing and the therapists very good. The spa itself is a bit small and has no hot tub or splash pool but it has a steam room and fully stocked amenities for your pre and post massage needs. My husband and I had two 2 hour massages, one on the beach and one inside. We liked them both ver much.
The restaurants here seem to be controversial. We could see why when we noticed that ordering the right dish can make all the difference. At Spago, where the service was quite slow, the opakapaka was dry but the lamb chops were moist and delicious. At Ferraro's, the spaghetti and pizza were so so but the lobster risotto was very good. At Duo, we recommend the filet mignon with the bernaise sauce. It was out of this world delicious. The lobster there was a bit chewy, though. So, a little inconsistency but all in all, we thought the food was very good. By the way, room service was also perfect.
The pool is beautiful but was quite cold when we were there. We overheard a few other people mentioning it as well. And it really difficult to find chairs near the pool. Three things that might help to know here. The first is that half, if not most of the chairs by the pool become shaded by 11:00 a.m. because of all the palm trees surrounding it. The second piece of info is that you can almost always find an unshaded chair on the lawn between the pool and the beach. The third is that you can snag a cabana between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. because that is when a lot of people begin to leave. Just ask an attendant to scout one out for you and set it up. Despite the crowdedness, the experience there is still pampering. The attendants come around with cold spritzes, icy towels and fresh fruit on a stick and ice water.
The work out facilities are top notch. The game area is also fun, even for us adults. But for me, the best exercise was taking a stroll along that walkway by the beach before sunset, peeking at other hotels we've once visited, admiring the ocean and the islands in the background and then returning to what we think is the best hotel in Maui. Aloha.
