I wanted to write a short impression of our stay at the Marriott Wailea, since I use this web site to book our vacations. My wife was in the far east on business for a month and we wanted to meet half way for a relaxing 11 day vacation in paradise. After meeting my youngest daughter (and her boy friend) in Honolulu for her 21 birthday, we shot over to Maui for a week. We couldn't have picked a better location and hotel.
The hotel is the old outrigger hotel, which was bought by Marriot some years ago. After a $68 million dollar renovation - it is a dream come true. We were most impressed with the open air lobby, infinity pool, the openess and helpfulness of the staff, good food and great location. Oh, and the bed is spectacular - you litterally sink into it. The front staff was nice enough to upgrade us to an ocean view room - which was a nice extra. Get Frank the supervisor of Security to tell you the story of how he wound up in Maui. It moved us. And the bartenders recommended "cafe Olah" as a favorite local hang for dinner. It was reasonable and very good.
The area is quiet and serene. There is a paved walkway seperating the hotel from the ocean. We walked it every morning going thru the Fairmount, Four Seasons, a variety of condo's as well as Ullua and Wailia beach. Over by the Four Seasons you can rent all sorts of water sport rentals. The hotel is a very short walks to the shops at Wailea - which sports good shopping for the gals and a couple of nice restraunts.
The scenery from our balcony and pool was breathtaken. We spend many an hour standing in the Infinity pool, with a drink in our hands, just staring at God's paradise. Also, I noticed no construction whatsoever.
If you are looking for action and night life - this is not the place for you. If you want to get away from the mechanics of life and just eat, drink, explore and vegitate - I would recommend this hotel.
As far as adventures - renting a convertible is a must. We have fond memories of snorkeling in the morning and hiking on a volocano top in the afternoon (bring food and drink as there is nothing on the top). A day in Lahania should also be on the agenda, and a stop at bubba gums for some good food and fun. We didn't do the road to Hanna, but as a write this review, wish I had.
The trip was expensive, long travel and took some planning. But for all the trips I've takin in my life - this ranks up there as one of the best and memorible. Aloha and Maholo.
