If your looking for a place that is in the perfect location, clean, friendly, and THE BEST value in Fox Glacier area; Misty Peaks is it! A warm welcoming bed & breakfast with great food and the friendly host make this a must stay for anyone wanting to stay in Fox. There is a reason it’s the #1 hotel in the area. I travel often and highly recommend this accommodation to everyone.

“A bit too pricey”

Misty Peaks

Sep 18, 2008

Great view of Mt. Cook. Clean room, but lack amenities such as coffee pot, fridge, microwave in the room. Only one small packet (not a box) of tissue paper in the room. The sink has hot and cold water fausets which are separate, so it is difficult to have luke warm water. Coffee and tea available at the kitchen, not in the room. Internet is available in the living room, and it is not wireless. It is a bit inconvenient to connect to the internet in the living room especially when other guests are having a conversation in the same area. A bit too pricey for a place with little to offer except the glacier walk (if you have been to Alaska, you do not need to see the glacier there).

“The "Peak" of our holiday”

Misty Peaks

We ended up at Misty Peaks purely by accident. We had not intended to stay at Fox Glacier, but ended up doing so when other accommodations in another location we had planned on did not look appealing. Talk about a happy accident! We basically drove around Fox Glacier, and my husband decided to try Misty Peaks because it looked like a nice place. In so doing, we ended up with the best accommodation and dinner of our entire South Island trip!

We are the Canadians of the 4 couples who stayed in April (see MandiB's review (waving from NS!), and I can only reiterate their enthusiastic reviews. Dave is an excellent host and left nothing wanting. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, the common areas and our room very comfortable, and the views superb. In many respects our experience also reflects the company we shared that evening, as well. I have never felt so much that I was among friends with people I had only just met, as I did that evening. And I don't think it was just the good wine!

“Amazing Experience at Misty Peaks”

Misty Peaks

May 30, 2008

Luxury bed and breakfast in glacier country! Dave and Lea are incredible hosts. We traveled 2 weeks thoughout the south island. This was the highlight of our trip. We stayed in the Matheson suite. Luxury linens, french doors with views of the glacier, and amazing water pressure in ultra modern shower. I would also highly recommend eating supper. I've eaten at the finest restauants in Paris, Napa, New York City, and New Orleans. Dave could give them a run for their money. Don't leave without getting the sticky date pudding! Great wine list!

We also heli-hiked the glacier...expensive but a must! We stayed at luxury hotels in Christchurch, Queenstown, Dunedin, and Kaikoura. Misty Peaks out performed all of them and was half the cost. Don't miss out on this one. Although I utilize trip advisor for booking, I've never submitted a review. This bed and breakfast deserved my time. We will be back!

“Our best stay of 3 weeks in NZ”

Misty Peaks

5 of 5 stars

I've never written a review (good or bad) before but simply had to let others know what a really great place this is. Not only comfortable accommodation, brilliant views and excellent meals (dinner and breakfast) but the warmest welcome - complimentary glass of wine early evening is a nice touch but also the whole atmosphere is warm (literally with a cosy wood stove) and the company convivial. Dave is a great host (Lea was away looking after grandchildren when we stayed) and seemed genuinely to enjoy our company as we did his.

I think we stayed at the same time as MandiB (see earlier review) and I agree with all she has said. Nothing is too much trouble eg cup of tea at any time, use of Dave's computer for Internet/e-mail.

As well as all this Misty Peaks is ideally placed for visiting Fox (or Franz Joseph) Glacier, Lake Matheson (reflection lake) and even Gillespie beach - further down Cook Flat Road.

I wholeheartedly recommend Misty Peaks.
