My wife and I stayed here for 4 days as part of a 3-centre Fjord Favourites package holiday. This hotel is really first class and our only major disappointment was that the room allocated to us was, although very well equipped, much smaller than we would have expected from a 4-star establishment; also there was no air conditioning. With a host of excellent facilities including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, health spa, souvenir shop and sumptuous public areas, it really was good and felt like a 5-star from most perspectives. The dining room was massive, but it was so well designed that you wouldn’t have realised it. A pianist played contemporary music throughout dinner which made for a very pleasant atmosphere. The food at the buffet breakfasts and dinner were both of a high standard with ample choice of cooked and cold foods (the sea food and puddings in particular were superb). Despite having excellent bars and even a night club, the extremely high cost of alcohol in Norway (£8 for a pint of beer and £30 for a bottle of wine) kept most people in their rooms drinking purchases from the local supermarket or going on long evening walks. The standard of entertainment provided by the resident band during our stay was not particularly good and merely exacerbated the exodus after dinner (however, we were assured the band changes frequently throughout the season). We tended to use the Alexandra’s sister hotel opposite, there was only one bar, it had a much better atmosphere and the standard of entertainment, a male and female duo, was better (more fun!!). The service was generally very good with a high profile management presence at all times. The location is wonderful, with excellent views of the Nordfjord and snow-capped mountains (see photos). This was by far the best hotel on our holiday and we would be very happy to stay here again.
