We just returned from 7 nights at the Embassy in Puerto Rico. What a great time we had! Breakfast provided each day along with an incredible happy hour reception - in which we were very well taken care of by the bartenders! It was a nice way to not spend a lot of money before going out by starting there first. The staff is nice, rooms are immaculate and comfortable. The pool was great and relaxing in the morning but upbeat in the afternoon. The beach and nightlife is just a few blocks away. Bravo to Lupis and Drums - two of our favorite places. The driving down there appeared to be a bit frightening when crossing the street - I don't think I would rent a car. Cab ride to Old San Juan is 19 bucks and worth it. It is beautiful. Check out the little Doug's pub on the corner and the other Lupis. People were very nice and friendly and we definitely will be returning.

“Great Value”

Just came back from Puerto Rico and thought I would share our experience. If you are looking for a good value, the Embassy Suites is it. This hotel is moderately sized and moderately priced and was a great value.

It is located near the airport which was convenient, there was a little noise from the airport but minimal. I had a hard time deciding on this hotel vs. others that were on the beach, I'm glad I picked the Embassy Suites. The beach is about two blocks away, the ES lets you use their towels. You can also rent chiars to lay on (about $4 bucks a piece) You are on the beach with local folks and those who paid to stay on the beach, so overall, for us, we felt we got the better deal.

There was free breakfast every morning (omelets, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, etc.) and the manager's reception for drinks every night from 5:30-7:30. You get about 3 drinks during that time and snacks if you so choose. I expected the manager's reception to be a mad house, but it was very organized. If you go, go after 6. Folks begin to line up at 5:30, if you wait a little while you will have lttle to no wait.

Customer service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Often times we were thanked for staying there. We ordered towels and they came within 10 minutes. Ten minutes later we received a call ensuring that we received the towels. It was great.

We booked this hotel for $199 p/n. I'm glad that we did, by the time the additional fees are charged (it is cited on ES website) we paid $239 p/n. When researching hotels, I noticed that all of them charge these extra fees, so be sure to consider those additional fees when booking.

I visited Old San Juan one day, it would have been $40 r/t in a cab, but instead I walked across the way to the Holiday Inn. They had a Dollar Rent A Car. Without taxes and insurance it was about $25 p/d, however I did have to pay for Parking in Old San Juan, so if you do rent a car, make it worth your time to have one.

Overall Puerto Rico was great, it's well traveled in Isla Verde, but the city is beautiful.

“Best of a bad situation”

Embassy Suites San Juan Hotel & Casino

My husband and I stayed here for two nights under not the best circumstances. We had to leave our cruise ship before it sailed due to a personal emergency. However, we had a pleasant stay until we could get a flight home. The included breakfast and cocktail social included in the price of the room was a definite plus. The atrium surroundings were lovely. Our suite had a separate bedroom and living room with tv's in both. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows and linens. The rooms were very clean and included refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. An Outback Steakhouse was conveniently located in the atrium lobby which was open for dinner until late in the evening for late arrivals. The pool area was very nice and it was an easy two block walk to the beach. The hotel has its own small casino which was closed due to renovation while we were there. There is a business center in the lobby with computers available, free internet access and free printing. This hotel is very close to the airport, but we were not bothered by the sound of planes overhead. It would be a pleasant place to stay for a night before or after a cruise.

“Embassy Suites = Great Stay!”

Really enjoyed the Embassy Suites, San Juan. We were there for 6 nights. The pool was great and Jacuzzi was great. The beach is a short walk away (2 blocks away) and it is beautiful. The complimentary breakfast was very good too. Made to order omelettes, sausage, bacon, potatoes…yummy! The Happy Hour every afternoon was great too! Free drinks (Wine, Beer, Mixed Drinks) every day for 2 hours.
The location was good. Near freeways, beach, food (Mi Casita is down the street, great local food), airport, nightlife (Drums, El San Juan, The Waterclub, The Oyster bar, Lupis – all within walking distance). I would highly recommend renting a car. We did and enjoyed exploring all of Puerto Rico. Charlies Car rental is walking distance from the hotel as well. Old San Juan is about a 15 minute drive from here, or a $19 taxi ride will also get you there. I heard you could also take the bus (known as the wah-wah to locals), but I imagine it would at least take you an hour to get there.
Rooms were nice, clean, and roomy. We had a pool view and were able to see the pool and the planes landing at the airport next door. Room also had a fridge.
Most of the people who stay there mid-week are business people, but on the weekends, you get a lot more tourist.
Beware of the "resort fee". For six nights, we paid a little over $200 for the resort fee and parking, parking was $15 a day.
We were aware of the fee from reading other reviews, so since it was expected, it was no big deal.
Day trips we did on our stay with our car:
El Yunque, La Culebra Island using the Fajardo Ferry, Old San Juan - El Morro, Luquillo Beach, City of Ponce, Bio-Bay in Fajardo.

“Pleasant Surprise”

Embassy Suites San Juan Hotel & Casino

We stayed at the Embassy Suites February 21st-February 25th 2008. Travelers consisted of three couples ranging from ages 28-38. I read many reviews as I do every time I travel, some good some not so good. I must say that we were pleasantly surprised. I realize that it may bother some people that it is so close to the airport, but it really did not affect us. We never lost any sleep over that or the music in the atrium. The 2 room suite was decent and very spacious. The buffet breakfast ( which is included) was also very good. We especially liked the fact that they make cooked to order eggs/omelettes. The 2 hour nightly manager's free happy hour was also a nice bonus considering the fact that you are staying at a hotel so they overprice the cocktails. It is a good idea to go to the supermarket and pick up your own beverages. You will save considerably. I am used to all-inclusive so it was tough for me to see that they were charging $5.00 for a beer. I am by no means cheap, just pratical. Also, I read reviews that stated the beach was about a ten minute walk??? The walk is about 5 minutes, possibly under. We went to the beach several times after laying by the pool which was extremely cold. The pool was our only disappointment. It was nice to look at and that's about it. I spent most of my time in the hot tub. There are many places to eat outside the hotel. If you like to walk you will find pleanty on the way. Fortunately, I traveled with people who know the island so we were able to hop in the car and go to different locations which is a huge plus. Also, the casino which is open until 4 A.M. is pretty small, but we did not have a problem with that. I believe we make our own vacations what they are ie. fun, romantic, quiet etc. It is a great hotel for the value. We would certainly stay there again in the future. As a matter of fact, we just booked a trip for April at another Embassy Suites in a different part of PR.
