“Viva Menorca OK but not great!”

Overall this is an OK hotel, or rather our room was a serviced apartment. The downfall of the Viva Menorca is that the room was never very well cleaned despite appearing visibly clean (ie. dusty/dirty floors, toilet unclean upon arrival etc.)
This hotel caters for many package holidays, popular with families with kiddies and provides nightly entertainment if that's what you are looking for. It is not exactly in Cuitadella, which is approx. 10 minute drive from the hotel. The hotel is in the cala 'n Bosch area which has many restaurants/bars around a man made harbour - pleasant enough without any standout restaurants (there is a similarity in the quality and atmosphere of all the restaurants here).
The hotel pool was fine (would probably be too small during height of summer), but the pool bar oddly does not serve cocktails poolside! Oh well, nice time had in Menorca but there are surely better hotels to be found.

We have just come back from a family holiday in Menorca, staying at the Viva Menorca Apts. We had never used First Choice before and I can honestly say we will never use them again. They were very unhelpful. We had read all the reviews about people becoming sick and hospitalised from the the swimming pool but when we asked our agent to find out what the outcome was, and to re-assure us, as we have two young children, they told us there was nothing they could do at this late stage and gave us the customer number to call, unfortunately this was never answered. On holiday we found the reps at the hotel just as unhelpful. We had to discuss our concerns direct with the hotel and they were very helpful. On our 2 week holiday our reps never once spoke to us apart from dropping us at the airport on the way home, quickly leaving, and then we found out we had a 7 hour delay. Enough moaning, we can honestly say the hotel staff are all very helpful and polite and the gardens are lovely, but the rooms need a complete refurb and a family of 4 needs to be shoe horned in.

We would like to return to Cala'n Bosch but would look at an alternative accomodation. Cala'n Bosch is a great place for families, everything is in walking distance and the restaurants at the harbour are great - we loved Aquarium, a fish restaurant. Another place we would recommend would be La Marina for it's friendly service. The Aqua Park at Cala'n Bosch is great fun and close to the hotel. We also took a trip to Ciudadela which is lovely - You can get a bus there for about £5 for 4 of you and we chose to get a taxi home, this was approx £8.

Just returned from Viva Menorca. The bad points: Agree with many previous postings about the rooms being tired and it not really being a 4* hotel. We booked breakfast as well - usual fare but all very basic quality - you served yourself your own tea/coffee from a machine and the fruit was quite old. Adult entertainment in the evening was just about passable but our kids enjoyed the two nights we stayed and watched it. Downside to pool was that the shallow end is 1.1m which is a bit of a worry if your kids can't swim yet - the toddler pool was v. small.

Good points: the kids club was great - staff were cheerful and really hard working, there was good variety and kids could dip in and out of activities. The communal areas were really well maintained and the cleaners were v. friendly. Pool sunbeds were more plentiful as those with children starting school departed - we managed a later August week due to an inset day! The hotel position was ok - about a 5 - 10 minute walk from the pretty beach and marina and near a lighthouse which was a very peaceful spot.

Overall I wouldn't stay in this hotel again but would go back to Cala'n bosch and stay nearer the marina. The resort was lovely and suited us well. Goody Goody's (a paddling pool/ mini golf/ bouncy castle/ snack bar place) was a MAJOR hit with our kids. We didn't like Fiesta restaurant but the others we tried in the marina were great.

We always read the reviews on Trip Advisor and Holiday Watchdog, all bar one said go, so we did. Never used First Choice before for a booking so we were on new territory. We picked up our hire car and drove out to Cap D'Artutx, the apartments are not in Cala N'Bosch as stated but a good walk out of the Marina area near the lighthouse.
How pleased we were to find the apartment, spic n span very clean and not a bad size, kitchenette is very small though. Lovely size sitting terrace or balcony if you are on the 1st floor. The only down side is that the pool area is not big enough for the number of rooms, the sun beds being taken most mornings by about 8.30am, don't really go on holiday to get up at sparrow fart.
One really good thing is that the pool attendant, walks the area and takes the towels off the beds that are empty for an hour or more.
I always think that a good sign is when Spanish folk holiday in the hotel. The guests are made up of mainly Brits, Spanish and Dutch.
We would recomend this place to any family, it has things to do all day for children from tots to any age. The evenings were a bit cheesey though, with a very hard working bunch of guys doing shows and activities.

Our stay at viva menorca was not what we expected. When we arrived we booked in, we had requested a pool veiw room which we did not get. which did not bother us to much as the gardens were nice and well kept so a garden veiw it was. On the way to our rooms after checking in we found we had to carry our suitcases up the stairs as we were on the second floor.
We was not very impressed with the rooms they were very run down and not very clean
The next morning we got up early to get a sunbed but we had no chance as they were all taken. So we went off to the beach which i must say that it is a very pretty beach, it took us about 20mins to get their.
On the third day of our holiday my husband got up at 6.30am to see if he could reserve a sunbed he managed to find us four but he had to lay on one of them till 9am as the hotel said that if no one is on the sunbeds that they will remove the towels before 9am.the sunbeds were very dirty with lots of bird dropping on them and alot of them were falling to pieces. after the early start on the third day we gave up and put our towels on the grass and sunbathed their. The pool was an absolute nightmere it was very crowed i think for the size of the complex it is to small as their is no way you can swim across the pool without bumping into someone and its very slippey round the edge of the pool.
We did not not eat at the hotel but we did have drinks their and a small plastic cup of coke was 1 euro 80. very expensive!! we ate at the harbour most night and i must say the harbour is very nice with a few shops and bars.
One of our day we took the bus to cuidadella and i must say it was well worth the vist as its a very spanish town with lots of history with shops and bars and a lovely harbour.
On the second to last day of our holiday my children played in the pool all day and that evening my eldest started beening very sick and was poorley untill we got home we were told on the last day that half the hotel had got this bug and it was caught from the pool.
Caln n bosch was very nice but i did not enjoy staying at the viva menorca no way is this hotel a 4 star!!
