Stayed in Costa Mar first two weeks in July. Just about ok. We had 41 steps to our apartment which was on the 4th floor and there are no lifts. The steps are very narrow so it is really difficult to get the cases up without causing yourself an injury. The complex is showing it's age and the rooms are very much in need of a facelift. The walls are dirty and grey, cupboards in kitchen are old and falling asunder. You are lucky to get hot water for a shower after 6.30 pm. The pool is too small and there are not enough "sunbeds" (hard plastic torture boards) for the amount of apartments which meant queuing from 8am each morning or you didn't get one. The night time entertainment is good some nights and very amateurish on others (the drag show is good but get there early for a seat). Ordered a vodka and sprite at the bar one night but they didn't have any vodka. They got some in 2 days later but then didn't have any sprite! It's very much take it or leave it and they close the bar early if they feel like it. Some of the staff at the pool bar have little or no english so we had the "magical mystery lunch" some days when you never knew just what you were going to be served (funny if you aren't too hungry). Nightlife is very limited close to the apartments with just a few pubs and basic restaurants. On the plus side the rooms in the Costa Mar are cleaned every day with fresh towels supplied and the reception staff are very friendly and accommodating. Eddie and the entertainments team are very good although they are working with very limited resources and space. The kids thought they were fantastic. The location of the Costa Mar is very good with the main beach right across the road and we were lucky to get a lovely sea view. The old town in Puerto del Carmen is only 3-4 euro away by taxi. Although the Costa Mar is very reasonably priced I think that I would look for a little more comfort on future holidays. If you are looking for comfort and relaxation this is not the place for you. Also a NOTE OF CAUTION, if you are going to stay here make sure you always use the key to deadbolt your apartment door as if you just pull the door behind you they are very easy to open and 2 or 3 apartments were broken into, including one while the dad was inside having an afternoon nap!
