We had a great time at Rose Hall. The staff is the best. I did find it hard to get a reservation at the sit down restaurants but we loved the buffet so much we didn't care. The food was different every day and was all delicious. We have pre teen and teen kids and they enjoyed every minute. The resort is very secure with security patroling all the time. The entertainment at night could have been better but a few nights was OK. The rooms were very comfortable, big fluffy beds with lots of pillows. Again I must say the staff are some of the best I've met. I will be back soon.

“Great time at Rosehall Resort”

Rose Hall Resort & Spa, A Hilton Resort

May 24, 2008

We stayed at this resort because we were attending a wedding. We arrived early and thought we wouldn't be able to check in but we were allowed to. Here's a rundown of our stay:

Rooms: Our check in was quick and easy, no line ups and greeted with drinks. We had a gorgeous view of the ocean, mountain and resort wedding gazebo area. The decor was very modern, not tacky like most all inclusive resorts. There was a flat screen tv and ipod dock which worked great! The in room safe was free and easy to set up, no keys required! Everything was very clean, cleaning ladies did a great job everyday! The bed was by far the most comfortable I've every slept on at any hotel! It was so comfortable I didn't want to get up!

Food: Fresh buffet wasn't that great in terms of selection and flavor of food was too bland for my taste but you could still find something to eat. Breakfast and lunch was by far better than Dinner at Fresh. There are also two other places you can catch a bite to eat, Mangoes - very little choice offered, basically if you wanted a burger you could go there. Seaside grill was the best but we found it closed pretty early 2:30pm. The food there was great! and there was lots more selection than mangoes. Seaside was even better than Fresh buffet! Too bad it's not open for dinner.

We ate at both the restaurants. You had to make reservations for these places and they were open on certain days. We didn't have any trouble making reservations, we did it on the day we wanted to go, we also had a large group of 11 but never had any problems making reservations.
Luna (Italian Rest) was the best, it's located inside the resort. The food was great and the service was also excellent.
Three Palms you needed a shuttle to get to the rest. as it is near the Golf Course, but shuttle comes ever 2 mins in front of the hotel and it's free. Three Palms' atmosphere was amazing as we ate in the outside patio.

Pool/Activities: The main pool was clean and had different levels of deepness so more kids stayed in the shallow end. The lazy river was ok but lots of kids and families stayed around that area. The activity area had games you could check out and the towels were available. The only downside was the activities closed really early, after about 5pm everything was closed including towel service and lazy river!

Beach: The beach was practically deserted when we were there, people seem to like the pool better than the beach. The water is not as clear but very warm and inviting. The waves weren't high so you could swim out pretty far to where the water was much clearer. The lounge chairs were easy to find on the beach and bar staff came regularly to take orders.

Staff: Everyone was very friendly and helpful however some seemed like they wanted you to tip them. Spa staff were wonderful! The spa was a little pricey but most resort spas are.

Nightlife: Nightly Entertainment is not that great, there are not many elaborate shows like other resorts. There was always live music playing in the evening but not many guest watched. The main bar was busy at night as most people spent the night sitting and drinking within that vicinity. The nightclub within the Resort was always dead.

Overall the resort was clean, beautiful and staff very friendly and accommodating. Great place to hold a wedding or a place to go with a group of people! Our stay was relaxing, we had no complaints!

“Stay Here At Your Own Risk”

Rose Hall Resort & Spa, A Hilton Resort

I stayed at the Rose Hall for 5 days to attend a wedding at the resort. I considered the Ritz, but after reading the reviews and considering the convenience of staying where the wedding was being held, we decided to stay at Rose Hall. Mistake.

Pros: good service, nice pools, right on the ocean.

Cons:

1. The guestrooms are not carpeted. Instead they have white tile flooring which is constantly dirty despite housekeeping's efforts. It was disgusting.

2. The hotel only has 3 restaurants. Two of the restaurants require reservations and are not open every day (i.e. when I went to make reservations on Thursday and on Sunday, one restaurant was closed for the day and the other was completely booked). The third restaurant is a buffet which reminded me of a high school cafeteria with the students being wet, scantily clad families coming in from the pool. Thank heavens we did not do the all-inclusive package as most of that would have had to been spent on the buffet.

3. The ATM was out of service for two days.

4. The cable t.v. stopped working right in the middle of the season finale of Desperate Housewives and did not come back on until the middle of the next day.

5. THE WORST - THE RESORT IS INFESTED WITH DIRTY STRAY JAMAICAN CATS. I kid you not. My mom and I were lounging on an elevated beach area the first day we were there, determined to relax and enjoy the beauty of the ocean despite our disappointment in the hotel. I happened to turn my head and see a d*mn stray cat looking me dead in the eye. It would have been bad enough if that had been the only one. No, little Garfield had a gang of friends. And they came out on the resort property every evening, by the pool, by the ocean--cats were lounging under and around tables while people ate and listened to Calypso bands in the evening. I swear cats were laying down, relaxing in the eating area enjoying a little Bob Marley. A stray cat jumped down from a food tray right in front of my mother. There were even cats walking around our tables during the wedding reception and we were afraid one was going to pounce on a cake. Never in all my years of travel have I been to a resort infested with stray cats. I checked into a hotel, not a zoo. I made my complaints known to management.

So you have been warned.

My husband and I (32 and 25) stayed at the Rose Hall Resort for a week at the beginning of May. Upon arrival we were greeted with a tropical drink, which was soo good. We were upgraded from resort view to ocean view....amazing. From our balcony to the left were the mountains, straight was golf course, right was ocean...beautiful. The rooms are very comfortable, bed was very nice, chaise lounge, bathroom was very nice. The food was really great, the buffett FRESH offered breakfast and dinner and they had a ton of options. For lunch the two outdoor grills were very nice. Make sure to make reservations at The Palms, we ate there twice, food is great, very romantic, sit outside! The italian restaurant is also very nice, food is great. The drinks are amazing, a great variety. My husband golfed, a caddy is mandatory, I wanted to go with him, so the caddy took his own cart and I rode with my husband. If one of you golfs and the other does not I recommend tagging along, anyways, it is beautiful. It was like a nature tour, I got a fresh mango from a tree and got cinnamon leaves. There are waterfalls in the mountains and amazing flowers and birds....definately a must. There is a night club, but we did not attend, we ended up going to bed fairly early after laying in the sun all day. The lazy river and water slides in the pool area are so much fun, even for adults. The beach is small but great, always could get a lounge chair, no problem. We went kayaking, no charge, really fun! The staff here is amazing, so friendly and proud of their country. The only thing that we were concerned about was tipping, we left a few dollars for every meal, a few extras at the palms. We hope that was appropriate, many people didnt tip, so we were not sure what to do. We did not get Jamaican money, american is widely used and there is an atm at the hotel that disperses american money. Cab ride to and from airport was $25 each way. Overall a great trip, can't wait to go back to Jamaica!

“I can't wait to return to Rose Hall Resort & Country Club!”

Rose Hall Resort & Spa, A Hilton Resort

Three of my sorority sisters/friends and I went to Montego Bay and Rose Hall for a long 4 day weekend. When we arrived at Rose Hall, we were greeted by the wonderful staff. We immediately fell in love with the resort. Great decor and the mango/pineapple welcome drink was great! Soniesha and Sophia were very helpful when checking us in. We had a great view of the mountain and water park from our rooms. All-inclusive is definitely the way to go. I'll break up this review in sections, see below:

Room: Very comfortable bed. Flat screen TV that would work occasionally (the cable went out a couple of times, but we weren't there to watch TV). Very clean. Great view of Water Park from our balcony.

Bars: Loved the bars and the drinks. Delroy at the main bar makes a great strong drink called the 4x4 (4 by 4). It's his drink so the other bartenders won't know what's in it, so find Delroy to try it. Kenroy and Owen at the water park pool bar were great too! I loved the hummingbird with an extra shot!

Food: I loved the food in the buffet, Seaside Grill, and Country Club restaurant - The Three Palms. The breakfast buffet is great. Sylvester makes a great omelet and Harvey makes great French toast!! Definitely try the acai and saltfish too. The lobster at the Seaside Grill is excellent. The Three Palms is an excellent restaurant too. The food was superb! Great ambiance! We didn't get reservations at the Italian restaurant. Definitely set up your reservations for the Seaside Grill, Three Palms, and Luna when you check in or during the day, so you can try them. You do not need reservations for the buffet. Observe the dress codes for the restaurants too.

Pools: Main pool was very nice, but we mainly stayed in the water park. Loved the slide and lazy river!!! Pool bar is great!

Beach: From other reviews, people stated that the beach was small, but to me, it was just right. Children were running around and people were able to walk and hang out on the beach with no space issues or any problems. There were a lot of activities that guests could participate in such as sea kayaking, wind sailing, and sailing on a Hobie.

Gym: The gym was small, so you have to go when there are not a lot of people. The resort offered courses throughout the day, so you could definitely exercise. I went on the power walk, which is a 45 minute brisk walk according to the brochure. It is a walk along the back 9 of the golf course. There are hills so be warned. It's a great walk. They also had a water aerobics course at 10 am at the main pool. I didn't get to go, but definitely on my list to try again.

Resort activities: Definitely a lot going on, but they have something for every guest and every age from children to older adults. You can check out books and board games by the water park too.
Montego Bay activities: Definitely get a chance to leave the resort. We went rafting on the Martha Brae (it was great), shopping in Montego Bay (the craft village is a good place for souvenirs), horseback riding at Chukka Chukka (a shuttle bus takes you, but you could be on the bus for a while because you're the 1st hotel for pick up and last one to get dropped off). We also went to Pier One (Friday night) and Margaritaville (Saturday night). Go late because the party doesn't start until midnight. Great music!!! It's definitely party time!!

Safety: I have heard that it’s not safe to leave the resort, but on this trip we left the resort 75% of the time. I felt safe the whole time I was there. We found a taxi driver that we could trust and paid him to take us around all weekend. We also went through the hotel for the horseback riding. The citizens of Jamaica are very friendly and trying to make a living, so don’t assume that all are trying to rob you and disrespect them. Just use common sense and be aware of your surroundings.

Overall – It was a great trip!! I could go on and on, but I definitely will return to Rose Hall Resort & Country Club!
