The location of this hotel is very very good indeed. It's right next to the Ocean Terminal and all the associated shops, Royal Yacht Britannia etc.
Parking is absolutely no problem. There are also some very good restaurants and bars within walking distance. I was very impressed with the location, everything is smart and modern.
As has been pointed out in numerous previous reviews, there is an EXCELLENT bus service which takes you into the City Centre ( Edinburgh). The bus is a number 22 and it stops right outside the hotel. I'd say this is one of the best points about this hotel. The frequency of these ( 24 hour) buses is amazing, we never had to wait for longer than about 90 seconds. It's almost like a conveyor belt! If you are a visitor from overseas, this bus would be an excellent way of seeing "Leith Walk" and doing a bit of people watching from the bus.
Incidentally there is also another bus - I'm sure it is a number 35- which passes this hotel and goes all the way to Edinburgh Airport.
The hotel itself is pretty standard but the staff all speak excellent English ( which you can't always take for granted) . The breakfast was good, but it's "continental". i'e., croissants , bread rolls etc.
I did notice that there were quite a lot of young couples from overseas staying here, presumably for the weekend. The hotel reception staff were very helpful towards them, explaining excursions, tours etc .
For any Scottish hotel, heating is a major overhead and some steps had been taken to economise.... Namely, the cable to the electric panel radiator in our room had been sliced off...(!?) This wasn't a particular problem because there was a good air conditioning system which you could set at between 18 and 23 degrees.... however if you came back to the hotel drenched by freezing rain ( not an uncommon experience in Scotland) you might be a bit miffed that there wasn't a functioning radiator in the room.
Nope, other than the heating issues ( which wasn't a problem for us really) I can't fault the place. In fact we had intended going into Edinburgh for a meal but decided to stay in Leith instead. I was astonished by how Leith has been transformed, and I'd certainly stay here in preference to Central Edinburgh.
Looking back on this review, it does look a bit "glowing" but I can assure you that I am normally a "grumpy old man" and this is my sincere opinion!! Check out some of my other reviews and feel free to contact me if you need further information.
