“superb location for a memorable break!!!”

Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh - Waterfront

We have to say we really enjoyed our entire stay here from the moment we arrived. The staff were very welcoming they knew straight away that we were there on a short sightseeing break and gave us very useful tips on where to go and the best way to do so. The room was very comfortable and clean with daily linen and towel changes. The buffet breakfast had a varied selection which we particularly liked (cereals, fruit, croissants, toast, selection of juices, teas and coffees).
The hotel is in an idyllic location as it is within a minutes walk to the Ocean Terminal shopping centre with one of the must see attractions that is the Royal Yacht Britannia!!!
We highly recommend purchasing the royal ticket, it costs only £34 approx and gets you into Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, Royal Yacht Britannia and also gets you two days unlimited access to the tour buses.
All in all one of the most memorable short city breaks we got to do a lot in the short space of time. well worth the visit and would go back in a nano second!!!!!

“Great City, Hotel Good”

Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh - Waterfront

My Husband and I have just got back from a two night stay at the Holiday Inn, Waterfront, Edinburgh.

The hotel served our purposes well. We were there to site-see and therefore the hotel was really just somewhere to lay our heads at the end of the day.

The hotel is located in a suburb on the outskirts of the centre opposite the Ocean Terminal shopping centre where the Royal Yacht Britannia is moored.

There are plenty of buses into the centre and echoing what others have previously said, the number 22 is perfect, running every few minutes from outside the hotel and only £1 pp per trip.

Our room was clean and modern. Our only gripe was that the bed has to have been the most uncomfortable bed either of us has ever had the misfortune to sleep in! The mattress was so lumpy I actually had bruises on my hips and was unable to sleep on my sides the second night. Had we been staying longer I would have requested a move.

The breakfast is continental and absolutely fine.

We very much enjoyed our first visit to Edinburgh. Our highlights were most definitely the Royal Yacht, the castle and the museums within the castle. My husband is Armed Forces and we were impressed to get a discount for entrance to the Yacht, something the castle should take note of!

We booked our break through Easyjet and paid only £100 pp for flights from Stansted and accommodation – excellent!

The location of this hotel is very very good indeed. It's right next to the Ocean Terminal and all the associated shops, Royal Yacht Britannia etc.

Parking is absolutely no problem. There are also some very good restaurants and bars within walking distance. I was very impressed with the location, everything is smart and modern.

As has been pointed out in numerous previous reviews, there is an EXCELLENT bus service which takes you into the City Centre ( Edinburgh). The bus is a number 22 and it stops right outside the hotel. I'd say this is one of the best points about this hotel. The frequency of these ( 24 hour) buses is amazing, we never had to wait for longer than about 90 seconds. It's almost like a conveyor belt! If you are a visitor from overseas, this bus would be an excellent way of seeing "Leith Walk" and doing a bit of people watching from the bus.

Incidentally there is also another bus - I'm sure it is a number 35- which passes this hotel and goes all the way to Edinburgh Airport.

The hotel itself is pretty standard but the staff all speak excellent English ( which you can't always take for granted) . The breakfast was good, but it's "continental". i'e., croissants , bread rolls etc.

I did notice that there were quite a lot of young couples from overseas staying here, presumably for the weekend. The hotel reception staff were very helpful towards them, explaining excursions, tours etc .

For any Scottish hotel, heating is a major overhead and some steps had been taken to economise.... Namely, the cable to the electric panel radiator in our room had been sliced off...(!?) This wasn't a particular problem because there was a good air conditioning system which you could set at between 18 and 23 degrees.... however if you came back to the hotel drenched by freezing rain ( not an uncommon experience in Scotland) you might be a bit miffed that there wasn't a functioning radiator in the room.

Nope, other than the heating issues ( which wasn't a problem for us really) I can't fault the place. In fact we had intended going into Edinburgh for a meal but decided to stay in Leith instead. I was astonished by how Leith has been transformed, and I'd certainly stay here in preference to Central Edinburgh.

Looking back on this review, it does look a bit "glowing" but I can assure you that I am normally a "grumpy old man" and this is my sincere opinion!! Check out some of my other reviews and feel free to contact me if you need further information.

“Clean and friendly”

Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh - Waterfront

We have just returned from a weekend break at this hotel in Edinburgh to see England V Scotland at Murrayfield. Although approx 20 minutes outside the city, the transport system is superb and extremely accessible. The No. 22 stops outside the hotel and takes you straight into Princes Street at a cost of £2.50 per day and is 24/7.
The hotel is a typical Holiday Inn, clean, staff friendly and room was spacious. The hotel is close to the Ocean Terminal shopping and cinema precinct and the HMS Brittania which is well worth a visit, so to is The Granary restaurant and bar which is only a walk away, or a hop on the No. 22.

“Out of town but excellent for a city visit.”

The hotel is excellent for a budget visit to Edinburgh if you have a car and do not want to pay city centre parking charges. The hotel is a couple of miles from the city centre however the 22 bus (which runs 24hrs a day) stops outside every few minutes. An unlimited ride day ticket is currently only £2.50

The hotel is clean, the staff friendly and breakfast is a good cold buffet however the rooms are a bit small.

Night life within walking distance is limited to the hotel bar, local cinema and restaurants within the Ocean Terminal Centre and the very good local Indian. However Leith town centre is only a minute’s bus ride away and offers more choice
