The beaches of Gros Islet are truly magnificent and while it might be hard to believe but there are just as impressive sights to behold within the island’s interior. Plan to set aside a little bit of time, rent a car and trek out to the sites that you wouldn’t want to miss.

Among the numerous places to explore are the unique ecology and environmental aspects of the island, that include a now dormant volcano, which just happens to be the world’s only drive-in volcano! There are daily tours available to take you up close, where you can get a first hand’s experience at the geology that makes up the Caribbean rim. After taking in the volcano, head over to the nearby Sulphur Springs, but don’t worry if you get too hot under the collar or steamed up!

The Diamond Falls, which are a natural mineral-rich waterfall, are close by. These falls were actually used as bathhouses for the French Military during the reign of King Louis XVI. Perhaps this is why the French fought so hard to keep the island during the colonial era. It is still possible to take to get in the cool, but far from cold waters, for a truly stimulating experience under the waterfall.
