Provo Golf Club is a beautiful, challenging 18 hole course, located between Grace Bay and Leeward, open to both tourists and members. The course is hosting the 2009 Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship and is expected to be in top shape for this tournament. It also hosts various competitions throughout the year, including the Premiers Cup and various other charitable events.
The Course
The course has lakes on 6 of the front nine holes and 4 of the back nine which have a great deal of tropical bird life living on and around them. Due to the arid climate of Providenciales, there are a lot of bunkers and sand waste areas throughout the course, to minimise the amount of irrigation required. The island is also primarily limestone, so there are a number of areas featuring rugged limestone outcroppings.
Facilities
The course has mandatory electric golf carts to save your legs and also has Nike Sumo 2008 golf clubs for rent, which saves tourists having to bring their clubs with them. This is particularly useful now that airlines are increasing charges for taking golf bags abroad. If you do bring your clubs, the clubhouse has a secure bag storage area where your clubs can be kept throughout your stay.
The golf club has also been mapped by Sky Caddie so if you have one, you will be able to download the course, and hopefully minimise your score!
The Club House
This has just had a large extension, which has almost tripled the size of the Pro Shop. This is well stocked with various premium golf branded clothes, along with lesiure clothing and souvenirs of Turks & Caicos.
The club house has a restaurant facility, under new management from April 2008, where tourists can have breakfast, lunch or dinner on the terrace overlooking the 10th Tee and 18th Green. This is one of the few places on the island with a green landscape to look out over, due to the arid climate.
