Sisal Lodge at the beach

SISAL BEACH

 Nature & Sports Lovers Paradise

The small fishing  town of Sisal offers a great combination of recreational and sport activities. The town itself is a quiet a relaxing place where you can walk around its streets, some of which are not even paved, but sandy. The friendly local population, which has no more than 2000 souls.are gentle friendly people. In town you can take a wetland tour to go duck hunting or just for birdwatching. Many species of birds winter in these waters especially in the shallow estuarine and ponds, and no wonder since the place was declared as a State Natural Park to promote its use for duck hunting and wintering areas for migratory birds. Ducks Unlimited has activity staff and projects in the area since 1975.

In addition to hunting in the winter time, you can also hire a local panga to take you sport fishing for snappers, groupers, mackarels, sea trout, snook, tarpon and other species, all available depending on the season. Walking in the town gives you the opportunity to visit a real Spanish fort built to protect the village from pirates in the 17th and 18th century. Many Spanish canyons also decorate the main plaza.

For local food where the locals go, try to "La Palapa de Doña Soco", all locals can give you walking directions how to get there. They specialize in Mayan seafood dishes like ceviches, fried fish, grilled Yucatecan fish and so on. Travelers looking for comfort and higher level of services can contact Yucatan Adventour, a tourism oriented project partnered with U.S. Frontiers International Travel that also offers different services all year round and lodging in their beautiful 4 bedroom/ 4 bath/ AC / Pool / Private beach place.

Sisal also hosts many winter Canadian residents who have been coming back year after year to enjoy the place and weather.
